Plateau State University Bokkos is abuzz with excitement as it hosts its ongoing Registry Week Activities. The three-day event has united various departments and faculties in a showcase of solidarity and participation.
The university has transformed into a vibrant hub of activity, with a diverse range of events and activities drawing in crowds and generating a palpable sense of enthusiasm.
The event kicked off on November 26 with a vibrant road walk and an array of sporting activities. Participants donned colorful branded polo shirts and marched for several hours across the university campus, showcasing event banners and distributing flyers to staff and students to raise awareness about the event.
The early morning walk was followed by a series of exciting sporting activities, including a football and novelty match between the Registry and Bursary Departments.
University Registrar Yakubu Ayuba enthusiastically took to the field as the goalkeeper for the Registry football team, leading them to a thrilling 2-1 victory against their Bursary department opponents. The Registry department however faced a tough challenge in the volleyball match, ultimately losing to the Bursary department.
“We’re in for a fantastic time of engagement, learning, and interaction,” declared an excited Mr. Ayuba.
The Registry Week Activities have so far been an expression of the unity and cooperation among the various departments in the university, observed university Bursar, Lawrence Longsen.
“Registry as a department is the custodian of personnel and every policy document of the university,” Longsen told reporters. “As a university, departments are interdependent, interconnected and inter-related,” Longsen said. “One department cannot work in isolation and therefore the Bursary showing solidarity to the Registry Department is in line with the basic policy drive of the university,” he noted.

The climax of the event is expected to be the workshop on November 28, which will bring together renowned scholars and administrators from various institutions. According to him,I spent over million naira to ensure that the party (APC) won the election with landslide victory but here is someone sponsored by mischief makers to destroyed me .

” The news of Hon. Bendel’s suspension came as a surprise to Hon. Vincent, who has since called on the party leadership to establish a reconciliation committee to address grievances and promote unity within the APC ,” he said.
Hon. Vincent believes that internal disagreements should be resolved through dialogue and collaboration, not through unfounded accusations and public disputes. He emphasizes that creating unnecessary crises within the party will only weaken its position ahead of future elections.
Rather than engaging in baseless allegations and political rivalry, Hon. Vincent urges Hon. Bendel to focus on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Langtang South. Unlike his counterparts in other constituencies, Hon. Bendel has yet to initiate any significant projects or developmental initiatives for his constituents.
The people of Langtang North and South deserve leaders who prioritize their welfare and development over personal political ambitions.
Hon. Vincent remains committed to serving his constituents diligently and will continue to support efforts that strengthen the APC and improve the lives of the people.

A Frontline politician in Plateau State, Chief Yohana Yilpwan Margif has expressed deep concern of the influence of godfatherism in politics which has retarded the growth and development of the state.
Margif a Governorship candidate under the platform of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 General elections in Plateau State, lamented that the trend is not good for the growth of Nigeria’s nascent democracy.
He explained that over time, the undue influence exerted by these so called godfathers has seen them prioritizing their own interests above that of the state and the people.
” A perfect example in point is the change of date of the famous PRTV Annual Tree Lighting Program organized to usher in the Christmas season has now been shifted to second of December just to accommodate the interest of the governor’s godfather whose Yuletide program is now December first” Margif observed.
The former LP Governorship candidate noted that the activities of the godfather in the state has eroded the democratic institutions in the state with the imposition of candidates during last months Local Government elections as Flagberaers of the ruling party were imposed on the party without going through the party primaries.
” The godfather was accused of imposing his nephew as the Flagberaer of the People’s Democratic Party PDP in Jos South Local Government during October Local Government polls. This did not go down well with some of the party’s stakeholders as some of them worked for other party candidates instead of the PDP”. Margif stated .
This development according to him has seen some aggrieved parties resorting to court actions like the case of Shendam Local Government were aggrieved stakeholders went to court to challenge the emergence of Nicholas Kemi Nshe who they alleged was imposed on the party by the governor.
Margif opined that the reconstruction of some major roads within Jos Bukuru Metropolis especially the Building Materials Sabon Bariki road and the completion of the National Library Overhead Bridge linking Abbattior all in Jos South LGA has raised eyebrows with some residents accusing Governor Caleb Mutfwang of doing that to satisfy his godfather and former Governor, Senator Jonah Jang.
He urged the people of Plateau State to rise up and fight the menace of godfatherism in the state politics, by electing credible candidates who will work for the common good of all instead of those working for the whims and caprices of their godfathers whose interest is the state wealth.
While appealing for caution in the choice of candidates during elections, Margif stated that in the face of the current economic challenges, godfatherism can only exacerbate the problems, leading to further disaffection and disillusionment among the people

A couple of weeks in October 2024, the news had broken out about the passage of the erstwhile Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja abroad due to ill health.
Almost all social media platforms were awashed with the story of his death at 56; who was only 16 months on the saddle, having been appointed on June 19, 2023.
It turned out to be a hoax after all, yet it was established, he was not in the best form of his health. Shortly after that, an acting Chief of Army Staff, Major Gen Olufemi Oluyede was appointed to hold forth. This was indeed a confirmation that it was not well with the COAS.
Sadly however, Nigerians woke up on November 5, 2024 to the news of the passage of Nigeria’s Army Chief. His death was a telling blow to the work he had started.
Those who have followed his short spell on board as Chief of Army Staff (COAS), certainly have a different perception about the task assigned to the office.
Since the announcement of his passage by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, various levels of leaders from all walks of life have described his death as a great loss to Nigeria’s military and the quest to change the security architecture he initiated on assumption of office in 2023.
Nigeria’s quest for stability and the total security compliance in the regions through the efforts of the security agencies has been primarily the concern of the Armed Forces since coming on board of the Tinubu Presidency.
Lt Gen Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja NAM, was Nigeria’s 23rd Chief of Army Staff. The Nigeria Army has described him as one who dedicated his ‘life to serving Nigeria, with a distinguished career spanning over three decades. Your immeasurable legacy and contributions will never be forgotten’.
Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, is distraught with the passage of the Army Chief, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja. It is reason why he described his death as a tremendous loss not only to his family and the Nigerian Armed Forces but also to the people of Plateau State.
Lagbaja, for those who know, was a steadfast advocate for peace and security in Plateau State, where he ‘fostered an environment where citizens could carry out their daily lives in safety and harmony’, according to the governor.
‘Gen Lagbaja’s legacy of justice, fairness, and his steadfast dedication to the peace and security of Nigeria should serve as an enduring inspiration to all, particularly young officers in the Nigerian Army,” Governor Mutfwang said.
Here in Plateau State Gen TA Lagbaja’s ‘unflagging dedication to restoring peace nationwide, with particular efforts in Plateau State, where he played a crucial role during the December 2023 Christmas Eve tragedy in Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas’, have not gone unnoticed.
At the height of security related breaches, he visited troops in Mangu and held a townhall meeting with critical stakeholders on the way forward.
During the Christmas Eve attacks in Bokkos and Mangu; alongside Minister of State for Defense, he came to get first hand information on the attacks, but more importantly to find the way forward.
Alongside with the Chief of Defense Staff, Gen Christopher Giwa he visited again; and also during the last week long Nigeria Army Day Celebration, hosted by the 3 Armoured Division, Rukuba.
Since he became the COAS, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has spoken good of his zeal toward ensuring peace and security in the country. Above all, his unwavering commitment to the peace process in Plateau, has helped stem the tide.
The late COAS, a thoroughbred and accomplished senior military officer had developed social interest toward a peaceful Plateau. It was not hidden in his deployment and special interest shown in ensuring Plateau remain peaceful.
He was aware ‘that sustainable security is achieved not only by strength but through compassion, resilience, and support’ for the victims among us.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang has already paid a condolence visit to his widow, Mrs. Mariya Lagbaja and the Army Headquarters to commiserate with the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Olufemi Oluyede, on the tragedy.
During the visit, he had this to say; that his ‘unwavering dedication and commitment to service greatly strengthened the security of our nation, particularly here in Plateau State.
‘His passing leaves a deep void, and both the people and government of Plateau State will miss his steadfast support and selfless patriotism. During our challenging moments, he stood with us, dedicating his time and resources to safeguard lives and property.
Sadly, the list of Chiefs of Army Staff who have died while in office has been increased.
The first of them include, Major General Joseph Akahan. He was just 30 years old and had been made the Chief of Army Staff before the start of Nigeria’s civil war in 1967. He died August 1967.
The second is Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru. His ‘tragic end’ came on May 21, 2021, ‘on a Nigerian Air Force Beechcraft King Air 350, en route to Kaduna for an official visit to attend the Passing Out Parade of the 80RRI in Depot Nigerian Army the following day.
‘Unfortunately, the plane crashed mid-journey, claiming the lives of Attahiru and 10 others on board. Attahiru had been appointed Chief of Army Staff in January 2021, replacing Tukur Buratai, and had served just a few months in office’.
Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja’s death on November 5, 2024 at 56 is the third. He was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on June 19, 2023.
Throughout his distinguished career, he held command positions in several significant operations, including Operation HARMONY IV in the Bakassi Peninsula, the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Operation ZAKI.
His leadership was further demonstrated in Internal Security Operations in Benue, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Operation MESA/UDO KA, and in the South East region.
Variously, the late COAS has been ‘described as a courageous, hard-working, reliable, loyal, and dedicated service chief whose tireless efforts and unflinching commitment to the security and well-being of the nation were unparalleled’.
It is therefore not surprising that Lt Gen Lagbaja’s legacy of exceptional service and loyalty leaves an indelible mark on the Nigerian Army, the AFN and the national defence security landscape.
Since his appointment as Chief of Army Staff, ‘he has demonstrated exemplary leadership, spearheading the establishment of the Nigerian Army Aviation Wing and playing instrumental roles in multiple security operations across the country.
‘His contributions to operations such as FOREST SANITATION in Kaduna and the Niger States, LAFIYA DOLE, ZAMAN LAFIYA and HADIN KAI in Borno, ZAKI in Benue, and UDOKA in the Southeast, amongst others, reflect his relentless dedication to ensuring a safer and more secure Nigeria’.

Tourism is a powerful driver of the global economy, contributing immensely to the world’s GDP and creating millions of jobs. Nations and regions around the globe recognize the benefits of a robust tourism sector—not just for economic growth, but also for cultural exchange, environmental awareness, and community development.
In Nigeria, Plateau State is emerging as a model of this revitalization under the visionary leadership of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
Governor Mutfwang has embarked on an ambitious journey to transform Plateau State’s hospitality industry and rekindle its status as Nigeria’s tourism haven.
Transparency, integrity, and compassion are the cornerstones of his administration, as he strives to restore the state’s prominence on both national and international stages.
Plateau State, with its striking landscapes and unique mountain ranges, has long been celebrated for its tourism potential. In the 1970s, the state was a preferred destination for Europeans, who flocked to its cool climate and welcoming communities each summer.
This legacy, however, faded over time due to a lack of innovation and commitment. But with the arrival of Governor Mutfwang, Plateau State is now witnessing a renaissance.
In his first few months in office, Governor Mutfwang has taken significant steps to breathe new life into the tourism sector. One of his landmark initiatives is a formal partnership with Aviare Global Concepts Limited to transform Plateau Resort and Hotels Limited into a world-class facility.

The Former Minister of Sports Honourable Solomon Dalung said president Tinubu arrest of school children on their way to school, keeping them in detention ,for three months , starving them and arraigning them in the court for raising foreign flag is a Monumental embarrassment to Nigeria Nation which may not be able to recover from for long time.
Its a pointer that president Tinubu lack the capacity to govern Nigeria,if not ,why will he stopped so low , whose Offences where mere raising of foreign flag disregarding every other laws including international treaties.
Dalung stated this in telephone interview with group of journalists in Jos, plateau State capital recently.
Dalung said the action of the president have exposed him as tyrannical Government that has no accommodation for alternative opinion as provided for by democratic tenant.
He further add that it’s shameful that the APC Tinubu led Government that priced itself as democratic Government, would completely disregard the rule of law having been a party to international treaties of Child Right Acts.
In the glare of bright day light, Tinubu could order the arrest of school children, charged them with capital offences of terrorism, treasonable felony and attempt to over throw his Government for merely rising the flag of foreign country.
Stressed that the allegations can only be obtainable in a Government like that of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Former Minister who is highly disappointed, said even the security adviser to the president Malam Nuhu Ribadu was not even ashamed of misleading National Council’s of State when he said “End Bad Governance Protest” ,was intended to overthrow Tinubu Government.
Nuhu Ribadu as a retired police officer, with experience of investigation, should have done his thorough investigations before he could open his mouth to dump such content on the image of the country.
“Ribadu could have had a little respect for the caliber of composition of the council of state made up of former presidents of Nigeria to inform them true situations of the country “.
” This where God has disgraced them, and disgraced them perfectly because the minors, took to court look mal nourished, maltreated, collapsing in the dock before the judge who ran into chamber for safety because she wouldn’t bear the monumental embarrassment.”
The trial judge ,as mother would have felt ignorance to such very terrifying situation where dying minors where brought to court as accused persons for trying to overthrow the federal government of Nigeria.
Dalung comdenmed president Tinubu action , said what he did in the trial of these minors demonstrate the hight of his Government clear lack of legitimacy to governance.
“The government have no legitimacy having won Thirteen percent of votes in 2023 General Elections, not interested in forming all inclusive Government, but marauding the political stage with arrogant and pride.”
“Tinubu lack the capacity to govern,if not,why will he descend so low to arrest, arraign minors whose their Offences is just mere raising foreign flags disregarding every other laws including international treaties.”Dalung maintained.
However frowned at Mr.president disgracing himself in that manner, because God wanted to expose them, which he has so done.
Citing the offence of raising foreign flag, and charging those minors ,is president Tinubu mere ignorant of the law, section (148),of the flag and coat of arms law of 1990,Sub Section (5), provides for circumstances the reasons you can raise foreign flag in Nigeria.
Further explained that the section can entitle the citizens to raise foreign flag of foreign Nation except of that of “Common Wealth”.
And the flag raised by the minors is that of Russia not “Common Wealth” flag as the government did not even know it’s own law.
“Rules Govern By Blind People, They Will Definitely plunged Into Atlantic Ocean “. Hon. Dalung maintained.
The Former Minister of Sports Hon.Solomon Dalung said contrary to believe that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu reshuffled his cabinet for efficiency, there was no cabinet reshuffled, rather it was a political Programmes for the president political associates that has no access to the table,he needed to bring them closer to the table against 2027 General Elections.
Described the unlucky Ministers Sacked by the president as political orphans that has no parents in the local kitchen so they where sacked.
The Former Minister of Sports ,Hon. Solomon Dalung revealed this during telephone interview with journalists in Jos , plateau state recently.
He said Seventy of those that are holding sway in the cabinet ,did not have any business been there.
Dalung gave an instance of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, who is the immediate past Governor of River state Wike .
whose language are toxic political dexterity threatened our national unity.
Said his uncultured
and reckless statement, insults ,on the integrity and sensitivity of the citizens and personality of the government, he is still left there by the president.
He further list the Ministers who did not have any business been in the cabinet if the reshufflement was transparently carried out by Mr.President to include ,the minister of power that the National grid collapsed under his watch severally without any solutions.
Since he assumed office as minister of power, the National grid has collapsed not fewer than 15 times, and the president still leave him there to superintendent on the affairs of electricity in the country.
The minister of Defence who is practically confuse of the level of insecurity in the country which have escalated beyond human understanding with the resurgence of new terrorist group in the northern part of the country which have been reported to have sacked some community and hoisted their flag.
Also frowned at the president decision to leave the minister of Finance , Budget and planning when in the past eight months, the Economy continue to nose dive ,as the local currency loosing value everyday.
Dalung lamented the astronomical increase in corruption. The minister of information is still in the cabinet , when propaganda, blatant lies is the value of information now in Nigeria as nothing the government says with any ingredients of truths, but he is still in the cabinet.
The minister of mining is comfortably in the cabinet when illegal mining by foreigners strive in the country as they have feel day in the communities where the terrorist sacked villagers they are busy mining there resources.
He said with the few practical examples, you believe there was no cabinet reshuffle in the first instance.
“It was a political empowerment programs for large junke of cabinet to come on board ahead 2027 general elections.”
He faulted the appointment of the wife of the late war Lord Bianca Ojukwu as the Minister of State for foreign affairs.
“This is a woman with high reputation,
President Tinubu have dragged her into the government to blackmail the Igbos to make case that they where part of his already failed government.”
He further frowned at the position that the miynister of State for foreign affairs,is just equivalent to an adviser to the president as Bianca Ojukwu didn’t have business been there.
This is more so that president Tinubu led Government have worst foreign affairs policy
, just imagine that a country like Liybia could force aircraft carrying Nigeria to land in an unsecured place.
However congratulate Dr.Nentawe Yilwada whom he described as right person for the position because of his level of intelligence, but prayed they give him free hand to operate.
“Because anybody with credibility in Tinubu Government, is like an angel who was invited to dance in a mould,he will definitely leave with stain.” Dalung maintained.

The Nigeria Youths has take to the center stage by lamenting abyssal destruction of the nation by our political leaders who refused to leave the political leadership even when they aware they are no longer relevant in the schemes of things.
As the Youths accused the two popular religious body in Nigeria of cooperating with the politicians by eating the crumbs from their political table and did their bidding instead of using their respectives religious offices to hold them accountable even when they are derailing.
Youths under the auspices of “Youths Enlightenment Initiatives of Nigeria(YEIN),”made the lamentation during their Enlightenment campaign on the needs to wrestle leadership positions from the present crops of Nigeria political leaders who has failed the country held on Saturday 2rd November 2024 at Gida Gede Hall in Jos, Plateau state capital.

Mustapha further explained that looking at the last #End Bad Governance In Nigeria# protest across the 36 state of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, though not properly planned,it was obvious that the citizens of the country in particular, and the Nigeria Youths are tired of recycling of political leaders who can best be described as out of use,and no longer have anything to offer.
He stressed that Youths did not want to results to self help which may be undemocratic hence the Enlightenment/Sensitization to create awareness on the Youths of the needs to work on changing the crops of political leaders that have drawn the country backwards since the county’s independence in 1960.
He lamented that its common to see leaders in Nigeria who have stayed in position of authority for Eight years without nothing to show but still remain in power.
Lamented that this groups of political leaders, though they are not performing ,use their financial muscles, wealth they acquired through dubious means to pave way for themselves during elections which is why you see them holding sway from on positions to another.
Mustapha decried the current exchange rate of Naira to America Dollar as the Youths in the country are now in despear and states of disappointment of the happenings in the country with no hope for better tomorrow in Nigeria.
Nigeria which is hitherto the giant of Africa, have loss recognition because it can no longer feed her citizens.
No county move forward without the active participate of her Youths ,as a result, the Nigeria Youths can no longer stand aloft why our leaders is drowning us and our next generations into abyss as the time to wake up and act is now if we most have future to bequeath to our next generation.
“We have identified few individuals in the country that can transform this country if they are giving an opportunity to proof themselves Nigeria .”
“The movement is not political, religiou, and tribal because as Nigerian are suffering under the present Tinubu led APC administration, there is no separate market for the Muslims Ummah and Christians it affects all of us.”
He denied the insinuations from some quarters that the movement is being sponsored by those behind the political mask,”because I transport myself down to Jos purposely because of this program because the survival of these our great nation is dare to our existence”.
He called on the Youths to wake up from slumber and take their destiny in their hands with the view of changing the country for better from the present sets of Leaders.

Plateau State University Bokkos has received a significant facelift, as the Acting Vice Chancellor unveiled a brand-new signature that announces the university to the world.
During the unveiling, Professor Shedrack Best stated that the facelift aligns with his administration’s commitment to elevate Plateau State University onto the global stage.
“Since my appointment as the Acting Vice Chancellor, I have closely observed everything from the point of entry. One of the earliest things I mentioned was that I did not like the appearance of the university. I believe that a university is a place of knowledge, intellect, and an enlightened community, and the front of the university should convey its pedigree and dignity.”
He further remarked, “I was not pleased with the presence of an electric transformer located where we are standing, so we began discussions on how to address it. The owners of this transformer, despite it being on university land, charged me eight million naira to relocate it.
I negotiated with them, and while they were unwilling to budge, I eventually paid seven million naira. I will not pay the remaining balance,” he joked as he proceeded to cut the tape announcing the new signature.
He believed it was a fair deal, noting that since the university pays the electricity bill, there was no need to be overcharged for moving the transformer, which has now made way for the new signage.
The Vice Chancellor noted, “When you come to Plateau State University, whether you’re leaving or arriving, this will announce the university.
Let me also thank those who worked hard to make this possible—from those who facilitated the relocation of the electric transformer to the management of NESCO.
After many months, I believe this work could have been completed earlier had the transformer not been in its original location. I want to thank them and the technical team in the Directorate of Works and Physical Facilities.”
Professor Shedrack Best expressed appreciation for the committee led by Architect Richard, who conceptualized the design. He stated, “The entire design, bill of quantity, and construction is one hundred percent internal.
‘I commend the technical team from the Directorate of Works for creating this edifice for PLASU. It confirms that, given the right support, we have people who can make PLASU beautiful, and I will continue to promote these efforts.”
Reflecting on his assumption of office, he mentioned that his administration aimed to improve the university’s appearance. “When you look around, you will see that we have made significant changes; we removed the tree that obstructed the view of the university’s name and gate.
This ensures you can clearly see that this is Plateau State University without struggling to read the signage.”
He continued, “We have taken down the tree, restored the university’s name prominently, illuminated the area—only those who visit at night will truly appreciate the lighting—and we have installed new flags.”
Professor Shedrack Best sincerely thanked his management team for their support in making these changes possible. He urged Architect Vivian’s team from the Directorate of Works and Physical Facilities to maintain cleanliness around the grassy areas to prevent attracting cows, emphasizing, “If cows start coming here, lured by the grass, it will diminish the value and quality of what we have achieved.”
He stated, “We must distinguish ourselves from surrounding communities as a university. When visitors come here, they should come to learn something. We cannot import inferior habits and bring them to the university; instead, they should learn from us how to live decently in a modern world.”
At the Faculty of Law, where a new statue of ‘Lady Justitia’ was unveiled, Professor Shedrack Best remarked, “We have also made efforts to clean the surroundings after erecting the statue. This work was also done entirely by our internal staff at the Directorate of Works and Physical Facilities; we did not contract anyone else.”
While unveiling the Lady Justitia statue, he highlighted that the previous statue was too small, stating, “We needed to create a statue that would not only represent the Faculty of Law but also Plateau State University.”
They sourced sculptors to create an imposing statue, resulting in the current ‘Lady Justitia’, who symbolically represents blind justice, unaffected by bribery. “We hope to train judges in this faculty who will uphold the ethics of the legal profession without engaging in corruption.”
Leading his management team, the Acting Vice Chancellor, accompanied by the university coach Agwom Yohana, inspected the sports complex. He expressed dismay at its condition, describing it as non-existent and unbefitting of a university. He directed the school coach to develop a master plan for a sports complex that reflects the stature of Plateau State University.
In a closing remark, the Registrar of the university, Yakubu Ayuba, expressed gratitude to Professor Shedrack Best for his foresight and commitment to transforming Plateau State University, affirming the administration’s pledge to support him in ensuring the best for the institution.

Jos Plateau has always been a destination platform for various reasons. Sadly however, for being on the wrong side of insecurity; the state almost became a pariah environment.
Tried as much as it was humanly possible to extricate itself, its people and communities from the prism of wrong accusations; that further took away the innocence of the state.
In the estimation of some people, Plateau could not be trusted to be a good host. They alleged that Plateau was hostile to visitors, while not taking into consideration the tribulations the state kept going through.
The more the murderous attacks on the state increased, the deeper its fortunes sank. But before long, the picture of the innocence of the state had made inroads into the hearts of many; who hitherto had been made to believe Plateau and its people were hostile.
Love or hate Plateau State, it remains the ‘Home of Peace and Tourism’. It is a destination, which, in the estimation of many, has not been fully utilised; as its peers have long been in the big leagues of the states benefiting from tourism.
Those who sought to obliterate the peace of the Plateau people may be uncomfortable that the never-say-die spirit is, in the main, back and working for the good of the state.
If anyone gave Plateau the space to bring life back to tourism and other recreational initiatives, it is the people themselves; who, knowing the power of the state’s endowment would not want it to be wasted.
There is no hiding the fact, Plateau State has entered a phase of using its enormous endowments to develop its tourism industry. It does not need to be told, tourism is the new black gold, here and in many states.
When the Jos Family Christmas Festival, an initiative of the Plateau State Tourism Corporation, began in 2023, it was not meant to be an experiment. It was an idea whose time has already come.
In fact, it was not meant to test the waters, it was the harbinger of the good things that were being expected in the tourism industry. The maiden voyage, in all honesty, indicated that it was well received; and it needed to be continued, but on a bigger scale.
No wonder, in an industry where there are willing partners to invest in the initiative, all that there is to start is the buy-in of the government. It is possible for this, given the enthusiasm of the Plateau State government.
At the unveiling of the Jos Family Christmas Festival at the Usuji World Events Centre on October 14, 2024, a clearer picture of what the initiative was all about was revealed, thanks to the Plateau State Tourism Corporation.
Its key partner, Eco System Africa through its CEO Rume Ogane, reeled some of the major events expected to hold in the month of December.
With a theme: Beautiful Experience, the number of activities expected during the festival are varied and interesting. The assignment has been well noted and well organised as to get value in entertainment and business activities.
Consider a few of them: Food landscape, bonfire, art exhibition, little Miss Tourism, cultural afloat dance driving round the city, runway fashion show and family cooking competition as well as family dance competition among others.
They are uniquely put in place such that theatre performances, raffle draw, music, poetry and spoken words will be done in partnership and collaboration. The bottom line is for the festival to be unique to Plateau but competitive with others outside the state.
If you are not in Jos for the month of December, pray, say where else you would like to be? Attention will shift to Jos the ultimate tourism destination, as other partners: Plateau International Firm Festival, Tour Plateau, Jos Hikers Polo Club have keyed into the initiative.
The festival, in the words of George Chuwang Pwajok, General Manager of the Tourism Corporation is to ‘drive tourists’ traffic to Plateau, to experience our unique landscape, rich culture, and hospitality. Instead of brief stops, we are creating immersive experiences where visitors can connect with our people, culture, and environment’.
But even more, the goal for the initiative is to make Jos as the must-sought after holiday spot, thereby bringing economic growth and supporting local businesses thrive.
When Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang made him the General Manager of the Plateau State Tourism Corporation, Chuwang Pwajok did not need handouts to get to work.
Long before he was handed the job in the third quarter of year 2023; for many who knew, he was an insider in the industry already.
They knew that It was just a matter of time before the latent acumen resident in him would manifest itself in the industry.
They were not wrong. The space created for him came pretty expected and more interesting given the state’s desire to be far removed from just being considered in name as ‘Home of Peace and Tourism’.
The ideas he initiated that started to manifest almost immediately, having mounted the saddle were what anyone in the industry would expect.
Without desparaging some of the past activities the industry had done, it is without doubt that lessons have been learnt; what is being planned is a resolve to get better than what used to obtain.
Mr Incredible, Nigerian rapper and Honorary Special Adviser on Entertainment and Creativity for Plateau State, Jude MI Abaga, is enthusiastic that it ‘is an opportunity for global recognition of our arts, culture, and people’.
Hon Ibrahim Musa Ashoms, Plateau’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, speaking matter of factly, reminded Nigerians that Plateau’s climate is ‘perfect, our people are welcoming, and our landscape is breathtaking’.
The state is indeed ‘fully prepared with enhanced security measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all’. There can be no better assurance of the safety of the visitors than this.
Echoing this sentiment, Sir Rume Ogane, CEO of Eco Systems Africa and a key festival partner, insist that ‘My Jos Is Safe’ slogan should be on the lips of every tourism lover. If everyone did, the city’s appeal would be felt everywhere.
With enhanced security, diverse entertainment initiative, and a commitment to economic growth, the Jos Family Christmas Festival is set to make Plateau State a festive hub for visitors from far and near.

Retired Perm.Sec. Ministry of Budget plateau State Prince Sani Yahaya Mavo said the people of Wase LG has resolves to dump the All Progressive Congress APC, to PDP in Wase Local Government because of the party’s abysmal failure to deliver the dividend of democracy to the people of the council for the 8 years they held sway at the helm of affairs of the council in particular and the state as a whole.
Yahaya Mavo explain that government move the people base on her policies and programs, which the APC at the National level can be described as Anti- Masses which informed the reasons why the people, including the Wase local government decide to dump the party and join People Democratic party PDP, to emancipate themselves from suffocating policies of APC.
Mavo who is from Mavo Ward, in Wase LG, was speaking in an interview with journalists during the collation of LG results at the Plateau State independent Electoral Commission(PLASIEC), headquarters 10th October 2024.
He added the only way people of the council,by extension the state could free themselves from slavery occasion by bad policies meted on the citizens by APC led government in the local government is through overwhelming vote against the party in the LG election which they have just done.
Further revealed that the leadership of APC in Wase LG,is one man show without recourse to other members of the party ,in fact the people were not carried along in the schemes of things as its regards to the party’s activities, the act members were not happy about.
“It is on this premise, I told my people from Wase local government that I have being in government for the past 35 years ,out of these years,I have served different governors ,both civilian and military,I told them the ineffectiveness of the policies of APC in the state in general, and Wase in particular.”
“So if we most develop, you most go with the government of the day,the government in power. You don’t expect development when you are in Opposition party.”He maintained.
“So to get this seamlessly, you have to follow Governor Mutfwang led government that is obviously doing marvelous job in state as development is concern, and ready to carry everybody along in his administration.”
“That is why I tell my people come let join the bandwagon, that is why you see Sharp vote difference in just conducted council election that give PDP edge over APC in Wase Local Government.
He debunked the insinuations that Wase have been the home of APC for the past Seventeen Years with plethoras of developments littered across the length and breath of the LG.
Mavo said on the contrary there is no development commensurate with the Eight(8), years the APC administration held sway in the council.
He gives an instance of the road from Lantang through Wase and that of Dengi to Wase which as we speak ,is nothing to write home about, and practically unpassable.
Assured that there would be more APC members who are waiting to decamp to PDP in few days from now.
Lauded the home coming of Wase decampees to PDP, because the people of Wase local government originally were PDP family , added that APC will witness more decampees if they did not address their anti masses policies currently ravishing the unity of the party.

However Commends President Ahmed Tinubu led federal government for running all inclusive government by bringing everybody on board, particularly the signing into law LG Autonomy which has lingered for long ,the bill all the past administration had refused to append signature for fear of allowing the LG of financial freedom which the state government had use over the year as conduit financial pipe to render the Grassroot Arm of LG, practically impotent.

Vigilantes and other federal government not legally recognized security body will not be allowed to participate in handling the security process in Plateau Council’s Elections slated 9th October 2024.
This is because we Nigeria Police constitutionally empowered by law to maintain internal security want to be fully in charge, and be accountable to the action and inaction of our officers and men during the state local government elections.

Those at the stakeholders meeting include, security chiefs, leaders of various political parties, Civil Society group ,Media , Road Transport Workers and other stakeholders.
As the contest for National Chairmanship seat of All Progressive Congress APC intensify ,it behove on the Party stakeholders to look inward and be meticulous in considering very vital decisions on the personality that would pilot the affairs of the party to greater hight.
The Presidential Campaign Committee Member in 2023 General Elections Hon.Ishaya Itse said this is very imperative considering the political task the would be Chairman will be confronted with which needs somebody with political and other credentials to handle, not just anybody.
This is where the former Governor of plateau state, Senator Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 9th Assembly,Chief Joshua Chibi Dariye come to mind as the most suitable Candidate for the position of chairman of APC .
Hon.ishaya said Chief Joshua Dariye Dariye as one time governor of plateau state for two terms ,was able to manage the unfortunate crisis which almost engulfed the state during his Administration was heard for political amateur to do.
Itse stressed that Dariye who held sway as senator Representing Central Zone of the state in the period under review, without menacing word is eminently qualified for the position of chairman of the party if most of the teething problems confronting the APC most be address to give it ample opportunity to reclaim power in 2027 general elections .
Chief Joshua Dariye is a man of the people, political mathematian, likeable by all ,and ready to make sacrifice even if it’s going to be at his detriment, which is what the party needs at this period of trying time.
For the interest of the party, which needs total internal overhaul , it’s necessary for all the governor’s of APC ruling state to come together and endorse Chief Dariye for the National Chairmanship position, to avoid the party going into extinction.

Today, October 1, 2024, marks Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary, and Comrade Taiwo Ayantunji, a human rights advocate, has congratulated Nigerians on this significant occasion.
However, his message comes with a strong critique of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Ayantunji condemned the APC’s “obnoxious policies” that have severely impacted Nigerians’ lives, crippled the economy, and skyrocketed inflation.
He noted that security has deteriorated since Tinubu’s assumption of office, while human capital development has nearly ground to a halt. The country’s economic hardship has been exacerbated by the removal of petrol subsidies and naira devaluation, leading to increased transportation costs and inflation.
“The National Assembly must wake up to their responsibility and hold the executive accountable for these retrogressive policies,” Ayantunji urged. “It’s time to reverse the policies that have stagnated our nation and pushed more Nigerians below the poverty line.”
Ayantunji’s statement echoes the sentiments of many Nigerians who feel the government has failed to address the country’s pressing issues. The federal government has declared today a public holiday to commemorate the anniversary, with the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulating Nigerians on this occasion.
As Nigeria celebrates its independence, Ayantunji’s message serves as a call to action for the government to prioritize the welfare and development of its citizens.
Key Concerns Raised by Comrade Taiwo Ayantunji included soaring inflation and transportation costs due to petrol subsidy removal and naira devaluation, increased insecurity since President Tinubu’s assumption of office, near-zero progress in human capital development and National Assembly’s failure to hold the executive accountable for retrogressive policies.
Will the government heed Ayantunji’s call and address these pressing concerns? Only time will tell.

Disclosed that as an individual who is still outside political power ,with his little fund in his disposal,he is able to revamp hitherto moribund motorized bole hole that had been abandoned for years by the previous administrations in the state.
Stressed if he can inconvenience himself to satisfy humanity ,even when I am not yet in power, you can imagine what to expect when you entrust your mandate on me come 9th October 2024, promised not to disappoint the people of Vanderpuye Ward,by extension, plateau state as a whole.

September 27, 2004 has remained a dark spot in our lives. It is a sad reminder of the loss of our father that date. I shall not bore you with the details of his travails; they are not necessary here.
Had he not died exactly 20 years ago this year, he would have been 94 years old.
He had been preceded by our mother’s on March 3, 2003. She worked in the background, particularly with us, her children, and women to support their families as a ministry.
Despite mother’s failing health as a result of a debilitating back pain, which saw her in and out of hospitals; she remained the mother any child would be proud of all seasons.
Indeed, we have always been. Any meeting of us discussing their life times, and the amount of reverence they have sown in our lives, always leaves us reeling in the nostalgia of their large presence in what we do.
The sad part as we remember them is the death of two of our older brothers, Philip and Josiah. They have more to tell if they were alive. Our joy is that, they finished well, and didn’t disappoint.
Before Hon Josiah YB Gobum went to sleep, he represented Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam in the Federal House of Representatives in 1999. His constituents should be the ones saying this, but we know, to God’s glory; he led well.
If not God, who would have thought that the son of a rural pastor could rise to such a position of prominence. Only the grace of God and the ministry of men could have sent him to that height.
Our upbringing under various roofs in different communities on mission work is instructive. He didn’t have much, but despite the pittance he got as a pastor; no father could be as passionate about education as he was, to send us all to school.
It is not about being boastful, they say pastors’ children are often in their world, working at cross purposes against their parents’ calling. They were called, all we needed was to support their ministry.
After Pastor’s College Gindiri from 1969 to 1972, the first port of call for mission work was Garga, a far flung non-descript village in Kanam. Initially, we were informed that he was on his way to Pankshin.
That did not materialise. Even though many things were considered, particularly our mother’s health. But the church is not a government parastatal, where someone’s influence could cancel a transfer.
His posting to Garga as first Pastor was fun. It was more fun when it dawn on us that to get there in those days, the truck was only available on a Thursday, being Ganjuwa, a local market day.
Our station, Garga is a long distance from Dengi, the local government headquarters. If there was no truck (gongoro), the only alternative was to trek the whole hog. No one wanted to miss the once-in-a- week-lorry if the need to travel arose.
We did several times; in fact, my common entrance and interview to go to form one were undertaken from Garga to Langtang on a bicycle. Tough task, but here we are some 49 years after, reminiscing the experience, and thanking God.
It was at Garga that we took farming seriously, engaging in cultivating cotton, millet, guinea corn, groundnut, maize and pumpkin. How will we not, father never relied on the church to feed him; he was born into a family of great farmers.
We discovered on coming to Garga, that the people were receptive. The Hakimin Garga, Alhaji Muhammadu Bawa was on the throne on our arrival. He loved people and together with his people, made our stay well documented and memorable until 1978, when another transfer was effected to Pankshin.
The church was neatly bonded, thanks to the different nationalities that had settled there. They came from Mushere, Ngas, Ron Kulere, Mwaghavul and Jhar.
The present Hakimin Garga, Alhaji Garba Muhammadu Bawa, is like his father. Meeting him last year, 2023 at Dogon Ruwa sparked feelings of a lost and found brother. He recalled all the names of my siblings without difficulties thanks to the bond built by his late father.
The house of one of the famous Islamic teachers resident at Garga, Mallam Ali Dandak as others were opened to us. Today, he and his children, as many others still consider us part of Garga. No society can exist without a mutually beneficial relationship.
Christmas or Sallah celebration in Garga was fun. The fact that we were always dressed in khaki shorts without a shoe did not draw attention; rather, we reveled thanking God in it and used same when school resumes in January.
Exchange of food items at Christmas and Sallah between adherents of the two religions was infectious. The dance procession from Ungwan Mission to the Hakimi’s Palace was a spectacle to behold each year.
We were born six, from a union that was contracted in 1952. Five happy boys and an ever smiling girl, Matan Kawu, Suzanne. She got married early enough in life, and made up for her education later.
Her husband, Michael Bilgas, a prince of the Dimlong family, buried himself in civil service work and evangelism, until life was snuffed out of him by an enemy’s bullets during one of the crisis in 2018 in Jos.
Simon (Saminu), Malam Dogo, God helping him has remained constant in nursing and church work. He, it was, who insisted at some point that because the church choir members were always not on time, he would rather pull out.
He did. Back in the day in Pankshin, he bought a talking drum to be used during Christmas and New Year church dances. With several church members, they would sing and dance round Pankshin until the early hours of the morning.
Kichime, the last of the six has been a footballer, coach, politician and social worker rolled into one. God also gave him a distinct ability to pick herbs for various ailments, a trade our father also built on without any formal training.
If these have not affected lives, his training in agriculture must have led many on the path of profitability at home and on large scale farming business across some communities.
As we grew, some cousins and other children were brought to live with us. All we were told by our parents was, they were our siblings. None of us bothered to ask where some of them came from. Indeed they became part of us, nonetheless, and we lived happily with each one of them.
There are still living wonderful cousins whose love for the Gobum family transcends just mere talkenism; they are a collection you can’t throw away. We are fond of them, just as they are of us.
Now we know better; the world can only grow better, if love goes around. They both love people to a fault, and expected nothing in return, because God is love himself.
Gender was not a consideration for whatever form of chores with our mother. Everyone of us went to the farm; cook; wash plates and clothes for the siblings; pounded and sieve grains; and to be fair, no one had room to complain, except when ill.
We have always relished in the fact that both parents are ‘still alive’. After all, each time we meet anyone who knew them, they also relish their different perspectives of who they were to them.
Come to think of it, what better memories can a son or his siblings keep of their parents than what people tell us of their impact in their lives and of communities, where they worked?
Our father was the radio man of the house; as he listened to news all day long, except if he was asleep. In fact, he was always with a transistor radio, sometimes even on the farm.
Indeed he was instrumental for me going into journalism. I knew each local and international radio stations as early as in primary school. I recall that in Pankshin, he would insist I buy a newspaper each day; even if it meant I stayed hungry.
Has anyone come asking for a record of an event in the past from him and did not get it? That was not possible; he kept every detail of any major event anywhere he was.
Not one event passed without entering his record book. Whether it was rain, accident , harvest, vaccination, birthday and visit, he recorded such. No wonder, our birthdays were never concocted.
From Tabulung, to Gyanggyang, COCIN Bible School Boi, Gindiri, Garga, Manung (Pankshin), Vel Fwor, Ballang Kalep, Ballang Shipang, Duk, Bwarak, Tambes, Chigwong, Dungung and Mwel, he was ever present.
Starting from Lerpye, Rong, Kubut, Gyanggyang as far back as 1959, it has been tempestuous in charting a course for all the local congregations. He was with his people at Tabulung from 1966 to 1969. Nevertheless, the story is not all negatives, it is one that makes us proud.
.
Planting churches became a grace that did not fail him. A host of other places, God gave him the grace to plant churches but were not limited to Gajin Duguri, Zalli, Yalun, Dada, Kyaram, Gyembau, Yuli, Angwan Gyero and Gyangyang all in Kanam.
Where they existed, he visited to encourage and making new friends; that we are today beneficiaries of those relationships built over the years. Even if the benefit were not monetary, I am able to confirm that his investment in people far outweigh what will be put in the pocket.
I am aware it was tasking and discouraging particularly in Pankshin in those days where a new initiative was always viewed from the prism of territorial enlargement.
No wonder, such efforts were literally frustrated, insisting as we often heard, ‘why do we need to go outside Manung. What we have is enough to accommodate us.’
It is history today, there are numerous COCIN congregations scattered in Pankshin town, for instance, and even needing more, if the church wanted to.
Being at Manung (Pankshin) from 1978- 80, and Bible School Fwor as its Principal from 1980-85, our lives changed in different directions. Five of us were all in school, while Philip was long gone in 1976.
God opened a door for a bank job for me in 1980 at the Pankshin branch of Bank of the North Ltd. Even while I was on its payroll, I went to the School of Preliminary Studies, Keffi, and later transferred to Maiduguri; from where I left for studies in Zaria.
God laid in the heart of Mallam AA Abdulmalik, my manager then to assist me. That intervention helped sustain me while in my undergraduate studies.
We do not beat our chests. He was doing the work of His Master who had called him from pagan worship to the Kingdom. God is our witness, if we have added other extraneous details to his work.
Going through his tour of duty was an experience a pastor would love to have. The joy that you had congregations eager for the word was enough to cheer him on. The fact that new grounds were yet to be conquered, brought about the winning mentality.
It showed in virtually all the places he was transferred to. The local politics of the people was not a business he got involved in. It was mission work he was concerned about.
One day before the 1979 elections, since I have never heard him talk about politics, I asked him naively, thinking since one of the church elders, Nde Yakubu B Chigwong was an influential member of the NPP, he should be supporting that party or another. Since then, I knew that as a pastor they belong to all.
By the time they left Dungung in 1993 (having lived there from 1985-93) on transfer to Tabulung his place of birth, we knew it was time to prepare for retirement from active service in 1996. Dungung became a home we always dreamt to return to: Good people and hospitable to a fault.
Apart from his pastoral duties, he was found worthy to serve in other sensitive positions such that the ministry will not suffer. They included, but were not limited to RCC Secretary, Secretary Medical, Treaurer and leader of Extension Bible School etc.
On December 8, 1996, he retired from the services of COCIN. His later years were dedicated to teaching and reconciling people and communities. By then, we had come of age, but they were ever present in our activities. He knew why; as children, we could always be children.
He was brought home to finish what he had started. It was a home coming of some sort, of a son of the soil. He knew the terrain and very much understood the assignment back at home.
Tabulung may have been quiet but they had lots of friends. They were mostly children who found his company rewarding. They left their homes in droves early morning to visit ‘Khe Raskang’; a name they commonly called him with.
He taught them lots of things, just as we also learnt from them. Since they found him loving, they ate his food, played and slept on the stone pavement outside the house. They stayed long hours until their mothers or older siblings came to collect them.
Most remember, and identify us whenever we meet, as children of ‘Khe Raskang’. That, in itself is reassuring of the bond between them and us.
In our hearts, we are aware God has been merciful; keeping his promises to sustain and fully aware that his ‘goodness and mercy shall follow me (us) all the days of my life (our lives): and I (we) will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever’.
We know God’s plans will never fail. Only him has been our Ebenezer, and only he could have brought us this far.
