The Plateau State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Samaila Rukuba, has challenged Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and security authorities to address growing concerns over recurring attacks in Plateau State following reports that seven people died in an attack on Dorowa Babuje in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
Rukuba, who is also the PDP Director of Media Strategy and Publicity in Plateau State, made the call in a statement dated October 26th , 2026, expressing concern over the reported killing of four community vigilantes, while three other victims who sustained serious injuries subsequently died.
He described the incident as another painful reminder of the insecurity confronting vulnerable communities, questioning how residents could feel safe when volunteers who assist in protecting their neighbours also become victims of deadly attacks.
The PDP spokesman said the reported attacks in Dorowa Babuje and Mangu raised serious questions about intelligence gathering, operational coordination, rapid response and the effectiveness of existing security arrangements, urging the relevant authorities to establish what happened and identify measures needed to prevent further bloodshed.
Rukuba also drew attention to allegations surrounding Dutsenkura, particularly the Rafiki axis of Rukuba, where Major Chukwu, identified in the statement as the Sector 6 Commander, was allegedly accused of stopping a police clearance team.
He called for an independent investigation and an official explanation, stressing that the allegation must not be treated as established fact without verification.
He equally called for an objective investigation into reports of delayed or inadequate security responses during attacks in Mangu, insisting that any allegation of negligence or misconduct should be examined impartially and appropriate action taken if wrongdoing is established.
The PDP chieftain urged the General Officer Commanding the relevant military formation and the Commander of Operation Enduring Peace to conduct an urgent operational review, particularly in Sector 3 and other areas experiencing recurring attacks.
He said the review should examine possible intelligence gaps, delayed responses, inadequate deployment and breaches of established procedures.
Rukuba clarified that the questions raised were not proof of military complicity but legitimate demands for accountability from communities whose lives and property require protection. He maintained that security operations must produce tangible results by preventing attacks, protecting residents and restoring public confidence.
Turning to the state government, he urged Governor Mutfwang to intensify efforts to secure vulnerable communities, press for urgent federal intervention, support victims and demand accountability from the relevant security agencies. He added that political activities must not overshadow the urgent responsibility of protecting human lives.
The PDP spokesman also called for the investigation of reported threats attributed by some commentators to individuals described as Izala militants.
However, he cautioned against collective blame, stressing that responsibility must be established through credible evidence and that every Plateau resident deserves protection irrespective of religion, ethnicity, political affiliation or community of origin.
Rukuba demanded answers on the intelligence available before the Dorowa Babuje attack, the protection provided to vulnerable communities, the allegations surrounding the Rafiki axis of Rukuba, the reported security responses in Mangu and the concrete operational changes being planned to prevent further killings.
He called for stronger early-warning systems, improved intelligence sharing, effective rapid-response mechanisms and the identification and prosecution of anyone found responsible for the attacks in accordance with the law.
Expressing sympathy with the bereaved families, injured victims and displaced residents, Rukuba warned against the normalisation of killings, arguing that condolences and condemnations must be accompanied by preventive action, credible investigations and measurable improvements in security.
He challenged the governor and security leadership to demonstrate greater urgency in addressing the crisis, declaring that the people of Plateau State deserved more than expressions of sympathy while their communities continued to face threats.
“The communities are bleeding, the questions are becoming louder, and the time for effective action is now,” Rukuba said, urging the authorities to provide answers and take decisive steps to protect lives.
