Plateau Embarks On Revenue Drive,As Lalong Pays Ground Rent To Flag-Off Exercise.

Weeks after signing the newly passed Revenue Law and Property and Land Use Charge Law as well as the Plateau Geographic Information Systems Law, Governor Simon Bako Lalong has flagged off a high powered revenue drive with a target to raise the monthly revenue base of the State to about 3 to 5 billion monthly.

While flagging off the exercise at the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service Headquarters in Jos, the Governor Lalong said the revenue drive is aimed at changing the income of the State to pave way for funding more projects and programmes which are hampered currently because of lack of funds.

Lalong who paid the ground rent charges for his personal property, said he decided to lead by example in order to demonstrate to the citizens that nobody is above the law or will be left out in the process.

He said ” I am not asking the citizens to do as I SAY, but to do as I DO.

I am not only the Governor, but also Chairman of the Plateau State Revenue Council as stipulated by law. Like the saying goes, leaders lead from the front. Having personally demonstrated this level of civic responsibility as the number one citizen of the State, it means that there is nobody that will default.

All of us are subject to the law and those who run against the law will bear the consequences. I therefore expect all citizens particularly political leaders (both elected and appointed) to line up behind me and do same. The time to show leadership has come”.

The Governor said he will not intervene on behalf of any tax defaulter ” I plead with every citizen particularly the “big men” to comply because I will not entertain anyone begging me to intervene when the law catches up with you. This is not about me or anyone, but about the law. It is because I do not want to beg anybody or be embarrassed that I am paying my own today” he said.

He explained that he recently signed into law the Plateau State Revenue (Consolidation) Law; Plateau Property and Land Use Charge Law; Plateau Geographic Information Services Law amongst others aimed at giving legal backing to all revenue generating activities and improving the tax environment.

The Governor however warned against default as very soon, those wishing to access some services of the Plateau State Government shall be required to show evidence of payment of their taxes. This is very important because we cannot enjoy and claim rights and benefits without corresponding responsibility.

Executive Chairman of the PSIRS Dashe reaffirmed that the exercise which involves taxpayer sensitization; awareness creation; on-the-spot inspection of registration licenses and permits; is a continuous one that will be sustained.

He called on all stakeholders to fulfill their civic responsibility of voluntarily paying all taxes, levies, fees and fines to grow our IGR.

According to him, after the period of sensitization and persuasion elapses, the Government shall begin enforcement and whoever fails to comply, will face the law.

After symbolic payment of his ground rent, the Governor and other top government officials paid visits to some business premises to sensitise them and seek their cooperation in the high powered revenue drive. These include First Bank, UBA and Onigbinde Stores all on the Ahmadu Bello Way Terminus. The organisations assured the Governor that they will do their best to ensure that the revenue drive succeeds.

Gov.Lalong Visits Rural Electrification Agency,Canvasses Lighting For Communities.

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has advocated for the lighting of more rural communities in the State through the deployment of Solar Mini Grid system.

Governor Lalong who visited the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in Abuja to meet with the Managing Director Engr. Ahmad Salihijo and his management team, commended the Agency for carrying out the 234 KWp Shemankar solar mini grid that has become a successful venture lighting up communities and improving the lives of the people.

He said his visit to the REA was to make another passionate appeal for a Solar Mini-Grid Deployment to Ajikamai, the community hosting the newly established Federal Polytechnic N’yak, Shendam LGA of Plateau State. According to him, as the new Polytechnic takes off, power is a major challenge because currently, the area is not connected to the national

grid.

While appealing for urgent intervention, he said “Specifically, we shall appreciate if the REA program through the World Bank/Central Bank CARES initiative can be extended to the newly established Plateau State Energy Corporation as a means to enable the State government’s desire to deliver power to the Polytechnic and surrounding communities through the off-grid energy approach.”

Lalong said Plateau State energy sector is undergoing reforms with the establishment of the Plateau State Energy Corporation which is being positioned for synergy and policy implementation. He craved the assistance of REA in equipment supply and technical capacity building for the new Corporation.

He presented other requests to the Managing Director of the REA, urging the agency to partner with the Plateau State Government in expanding NESCO’S power generation capacity both in the existing hydro or exploring other renewables.

Responding, Managing Director REA Engr. Ahmad Salihijo appreciated the Governor for the visit and assured him that the agency will be captured under various programmes that

are ongoing.

He cited the interventions that will soon be done in 3 markets in Jos namely: Building Materials, Rukuba Market and Katako. Other initiatives that the State is expected to benefit from are the Solar Power Naija program which has five communities. Others already implemented are the 5KW Health Centres project in five primary healthcare centres in the State under COVID-19.

Salihijo appealed to the Governor to nominate a State focal person that will liaise with the REA in carrying out some of the requests presented to the agency.

The People Democratic Party(PDP) in plateau state has dragged Plateau State Independent Electorial Commission (PLASIEC) to the state High Court Plateau State Division for excluding the member of the party from participating for the forthcoming local government elections slated

October,2021.

The Party is also challenging the State electorial umpire over the outrageous amount for the sale of nomination form for the counselor and chairmanship position respectively.

The case was however adjourned till 5th August,2021 for hearing on the originating summon and preminary objection filed by PDP who is the claimant in the matter.

In an interview with counsel to PDP Edward Pwajok (SAN) said his client is in court to challenge PLASIEC for organizing election for chairman and counsellor in Plateau State by excluding PDP for participating in the election.

Pwajok SAN described the action of electorial umpire in the state as grossly wrong , undemocratic and ploy to denied the people of Plateau State their fundamental human rights to choose who their leader would be,in the third tier of Government.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) further add that it’s unconstitutional, illegal , in fact violate all the international norms that encourage voters to participate freely on the person to represent them either as chairman or counsellor.

So the party PDP is seeking redress in court challenging that PLASIEC doesn’t have such power to denied the voters their right to choose which person they want.

He described the action of PLASIEC as bearly concived attempt to endorse candidate from the ruling APC which he said should not allowed to prevail in democracy.

On the injunction move by PDP, Edward said it’s for the court to restrained PLASIEC ,body saddled with the responsibility of presiding on election matter in the state from conducting the state chairmanship and counselorship election in the pending the hearing of the substantive suit.

He stressed that the vacation judge, justice Isaku Konda in his wisdom has promised that the case because of it sensitive nature especially as it relates to the affairs of the state, will be given accelerated hearing,and hope that the pace of the proceeding will be quickening.

On the next adjourned date which is 5th August,2021, we are coming back to the court to argue both the objection by PLASIEC,and the preminary objection filed by PDP.

“So hopefully ,if the court hear all the issue raised that day,it can be adjourned for judgement.”

Pawjok said if judgement is given in good time,there is no need for motion because the election is going to be in October with the conviction that the judgement will come way ahead October ,to clear the way so that voters on Plateau will know their faith.

On the prospect of the case, Edward said it’s very, very bright because the action of the electorial umpire has no precedent in law,our case therefore is that even the PLASIEC law doesn’t in any section give it the power to exclude any candidate.

He Condemned the outrageous amount for the purchase of nomination form which many of the aspirants particularly from the PDP may not have the financial muscle to contain with.

The SAN recalled that the president who was even a rich man was in one time given nomination form free of charge by lNEC let alone chairman and counsellor, which is a deliberate ploy to denied the PDP aspirants from contesting.

In another separate interview with our rëporter,the counsel to PLASIEC , chief Garuba Pwul (SAN)said there is nowhere in the political history of the country where nomination forms were given free to the aspirants by inec or PLASIEC as the case my be which is the bone if contention that forms should be given to the PDP aspirants free of charge.

Pwul stressed that his client is prepared for the election and ready to give all the Aspirants level playing ground to ventilate their political prowess.

Pwul debunked the insinuation by the claimant that they were been denied nomination form and add that there is no where even at the national level nomination form is never free.

Gov.lalong Receives PLASU Governing Council,Assures Of Greater Attention To Development.

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has assured of greater commitment of his administration for the rapid development of the Plateau State University, Bokkos (PLASU).

The Governor who is the Visitor to the University, gave the reassurance when he recieved members of the new Governing Council for the University led by the Pro-Chancellor and Council Chairman, Monsignor Prof. Ibiora Ike during a courtesy visit to the Government

House Rayfield Jos.

Lalong said the University has continued to grow rapidly after his Rescue Administration revived it on assuming office by making various interventions in academic reform and research, infrastructure, administration, staff welfare and higher student population.

The Governor said the Government is aware of the challenges of the Institution and has been doing its best to meet them based on available resources. He said COVID-19 has affected the funds of the State, making it difficult to fulfill all commitments including the

demands of ASUU.

He however assured the Council that the Government will do its best for the institution, hoping that revenues will rise soon to enable the Government attend to other outstanding issues. The Governor also said he will continue to lobby and make contacts at the Federal Government and through the private sector for interventions that will facilitate research and teaching in the University.

Pro-Chancellor and Chairman PLASU Council, Monsignor Prof. Obiora Ike appreciated Governor Lalong for appointing him and other members of the Council, assuring that they will do their best to ensure that the University is taken to greater heights.

He said the council had held its inaugural meeting where some of the challenges of the Institution were highlighted. These according to him include staff welfare, more infrastructure, and other amenities to expand the scope of academic progress of the school.

NPA Looting: PDP Demands Prosecution Of Sacked DG, Bala-Usman,Seeks Investigations Against Amaechi

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) demands the immediate prosecution of indicted and now sacked Managing Director of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman, over exposed looting of over N165 billion in the agency.

The party insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari should not just “ease out” Bala Usman, but must go ahead to prosecute her over the alleged looting including revelations from the office of the Auditor General, which also unearthed the alleged stealing of unremitted deductions to Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) amounting to N3,667,750,470. $148,845,745.04, Euro 4,891,449.50 and £252,682.14 during her watch at NPA.

The PDP charges the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately take in Bala Usman for questioning and prosecution over the alleged fraud, including the reported stealing of N15.18 billion through alleged shady Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects by the NPA.

The party also urges the EFCC to extend its searchlight on the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, under whose ministerial watch the alleged looting in NPA was perpetrated.

The PDP restates that the fact that it took the minister a clear six years (2016 to 2021) to query the NPA Managing Director, over looting of N165 billion unremitted operational surplus of the agency, raises public apprehensions of an afterthought, which only came after indicting audit documents had already been exposed.

The PDP, standing with Nigerians, will continue to closely monitor the actions of the Buhari administration and resist attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to sweep the matter under the carpet in the desperation to shield many of its leaders involved in the reckless looting in the NPA, particularly, finances relating to the 2019 elections sleaze funds.

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has expressed deep appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the Orthopedic Hospitals Management Board (Amendment) Act, 2021, which amends the Orthopedic Hospitals Management Board Act Cap. O10 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to provide for the establishment of the Orthopedic Hospital Jos

Plateau State.

Governor Lalong felicitation is contained in a press statement dated 26th July,2021 , signed by the Director of press and public affairs to the governor Simon Mackut Macham and made available to this medium in Jos, plateau state capital.

He said the Hospital which is under the control of the Orthopedic Hospitals Management Board, will be affiliated to the Jos University Teaching Hospital to provide specialised orthopedic treatment and medical services.

Governor Lalong said he received the cheering news of the President’s assent to the amended Act with excitement and profound gratitude because of the impact it will have not only on people of Plateau State, but other neighbouring States.

Lalong also praised the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Idris Wase for sponsoring the bill and following through with its passage and assent.

Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State has visited the residence of the Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase in Jos to commiserate with him over the death of his elder sister, Hajiya Maryam Idris Abdullahi Maikano who died recently.

Lalong described late Hajiya Maryam, wife of the late Emir of Wase Alhaji Abdullahi Maikano as a virtous woman who demonstrated exceptional humility, generosity, kindness and honesty during her lifetime and lived an exemplary lifestyle.

Governor Lalong accompanied by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Prof. Danladi Abok Atu, Chief of Staff Noel Donjur, Head of Service, Engr. Sunday Hyat as well as Commissioners of Transport, Information and Communication, and Special Duties.

While urging the Deputy Speaker and members of the family to accept her death as the will of God, Governor Lalong said her legacies will remain a point of reference for a very long time.

On what the people of the state shall be expecting from the party came Saturday 31st July,2021, considering the credibility try to inject into the Conduct of the Congress,Alh.Sati said the people of the state didn’t have much to worry about as everything have been taken care off.

And stressed that the party’s leadership have directed that there should be Consensus as much as possible, where that fails, we shall have no option than to apply the Party’s primaries.

He said the party can only conduct primaries for those areas that the people could not be able to reach Consensus.

“Take for example in Jos North as case study,if by the special Grace of God,we have been able to have ten wards that is able to comply fully on Consensus,we know that we are going to conduct election for only four wards which has reduced the cost of election,time,and other things because we are now having smaller number to curtail as against the fourteen wards ,so we have only four .

So the same thing applies to all the local government in the state we are very mindful of that.

The two options before the party are by consensus, which is discussion between the people and agreed that this is what we want,ones the people are satisfied with what they produced by themselves,the party is given the license to go ahead.

He stressed that incase the people people are not able to arrive on Consensus,we refer them to election.

“We subject them to party’s primaries , there is no much difficult thing there.He maintained.

He called on the supporters of the party in the state to continue to be law abiding .

He advised any aggrieved member of the party to channel his complain to the appropriate channel as their complaint will be given the attention needed within the law.

And advise them not to put laws into their hands or doing it the way he feels .

Promised that the party will continue to carry everybody along.

Bashir emphasize on governor Lalong statement that the process should be people’s driven process not that it should hook in by selfish individuals .

He further added that for the MUPUN Youth movement to come up with this though of organising this kind of lecture, is a pointer that they are ready to embrace political decency Shun thuggery and other political negative vices which are lacking among the Youths not peculiar to Mupun Youths alone ,but Nigeria Youths in general mostly during electioneering campaign.

He lamented the way and manner political sentiment and tribal diversity are gradually tearing the state in in particular and the country as a whole apart therefore has bunkernize peaceful coexistence of plateau people hitherto know for their peaceful disposition which is applicable to the whole Nigeria where election is now base on where you come from and your tribe and not what you can contribute to the society.

He advised the MUPUN Youths to embrace ideology and stressed that any person, group or association without ideology is that without vision and focus ,and decried that most of the ideology of the youths are politically driven.

And advice the Exco of the MUPUN Youth Movement to come up with programs that can foster unity amongst the MUPUN Youths in plateau state ,and Nigeria as a Nation rather than that which will distengrate them like organising Football tournament and other sporting activities which the Hon.member promised to be co-sponsor.

He advised the MUPUN Youths not to allow the cultural heritage bequested to them by their forefathers go extinct, rather made conscious efforts to build on it.

Destruction Of Farm Crops,Gov.Lalong Orders Arrest Of Perpetrators.

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has described as callous, criminal, inhuman and wicked, the reported willful destruction of farm crops in some communities in the State by yet to be apprehended criminals.

Governor Lalong while reacting to the ugly development said it is unimaginable that people will go into a farm and mow down flourishing crops that are nearing maturity and expected to be harvested in the coming weeks and months for whatever reason.

This according to him is a premeditated act that must be addressed.

Lalong said “the recent case of such intentional decimation of farm crops in Kpachudu, Jebbu Miango in Bassa Local Government area is totally condemnable and unacceptable.

From the reports, this is a carefully planned and executed act that is not only meant to provoke crisis, suspicion and instability in the area, but also render the victims poor and hungry. What these criminals fail to understand is that such actions will eventually leave the entire State and the country with food shortages where even the perpetrators will not escape”.

The Governor therefore directs the security agencies to immediately swing into action by conducting a thorough investigation into this terrorist activity with a view to arresting those behind it and prosecuting them.

The Government working with the security agencies will do everything within its power to unravel those behind this barbaric act and deal with them accordingly.

Without prejudice to the directive to security agencies to investigate the matter and apprehend culprits, the Governor has also mandated the Plateau Peace Building Agency to visit the affected areas and ascertain the level of damage, as well as foster dialogue within the communities with a view to ensuring that such incidents are avoided.

The Governor also wants community associations, traditional rulers, youth groups and vigilante platforms all over the State to be proactive by providing the security agencies with the intelligence to pre-empt and foil such plans as well as arresting the perpetrators who clearly are on a mission to return Plateau to the era of pain and agony.

The Governor sympathizes with the affected farmers and promises that the Government will do its best to ensure that they get justice.

an Aspirant under the ambrella of Young Progressive Party ,(YPP),Hon. Akilo Olatunji Thomas has urged Nigerian politician to allow the youths the privilege opportunity to play politics without bitterness or mortgage the lives of the youth.

He called on them to shun politics of division and hatred differences and embrace each other as it is their time towards repositioning Nigeria.

Speaking to journalists during Sallah message in Jos North Local Government Council ,Thomas who is vying for Governorship race ahead of 2022 Ekiti state government house .

He said ,I’m not satisfy with the style of leadership exhibited by the Governor of Ekiti state , although the governor is doing very well ,but he didn’t pay much attention for infrastructural development and carry theyouths along.

Hon.Akilo Olatunji Thomas further add that the future of upcoming generation in Ekiti state is blink because the Governor has failed them woefully were the students has to stage protest demanding for reconnection of electricity light in the campus that had been without light for long time, the Governors’ wife ordered the security to shoot at the students, claiming that they planned to attacked her convoy.

Hon.Thomas stressed that another ugly instance is when the Governor ordered the security to shoot aside students of the federal university located in the state during protest ,and many sustained various degrees of injuries.

According to him ,a lot of factors has ender him to aspire into joining politics ,”like the wise saying ,”if you can’t beat them you can join them ,” I actually don’t want to be part of bad politician we have here in Nigeria but to contribute in repositioning the atmosphere of politics for better service delivery .

He noted that ,”I notice a lot is happening in Nigeria, youths are relegated at background of political affairs ,we are totally marginalized starve them from active participation were majority are deniedpolitically as youths .

“We have not been carry along politically because all the politicians have seen the young people as bundle of thuggery and hungry mobs perpetuating all manner of heinous crime in the society “.

He challenged politician not to make use youths as vessels of destructive agents in creating evil and later dump.

Thomas expressed desire if given the mandate he would belief on politics of ideology of promoting and empowering them to stand on their own through skills acquisition program by transforming them, see themselves as important vessels in the society .

He appealed to the peace loving sons and daughters of Ekiti state not to mortgage their future but to stand united and defense democracy.

Gov.Simon Bako Lalong Praises Former VC, Unijos Prof Maimako For Lifting

Institution.

Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong has described the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Seddi Sebastian Maimako as a scholar of repute and resourceful administrator whose tenure ushered in a great era of academic and infrastructural achievements

for the institution.

Governor Lalong who was among thousands of guests that joined the former Vice Chancellor for the Thanksgiving Mass at the St. Mary Catholic Church, Lu’ukwo, Bakin Chiyawa, Quan-pan LGA of Plateau State said Prof. Maimako left a legacy of excellence, hardwork, inclusivity, and progressive leadership in

the University of Jos.

He said under Professor Maimako’s leadership as the 9th Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, so much was achieved in research, teaching, Infrastructural development, campus harmony and breakthroughs in academic grants.

Lalong said the testimony of both staff, students, regulatory bodies and many who have had contact with the institution during his stewardship affirm the fact that he was prudent, transparent, fair, kind and just to all manner of people which enabled him propel the institution to the pedestal of greatness it has been placed today.

The Governor said this has brought pride to the Government and people of Plateau State and demonstrates the capacity of the citizens of the State to hold higher responsibilities and discharge them diligently. He wished the Vice Chancellor more years of higher service to the nation and humanity.

In a homily, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Gowok citing Bible references from 2 Kings 4:42-44; John 6:1-15; among others said Christians are supposed to be concerned about what name they acquire in every responsibility they are given rather than acquiring wealth that does not last.

Fr. Gowok however acknowledged the testimony of Prof. Maimako whom he said has been variously described as a humble, professional and honest administrator that carried people along and preferred to leave behind a good name rather than riches.

Catholic Archbishop of Jos, Rev. Dr. Matthew Ishaya Audu said God gives people assignments as a way of attracting their diligence and productivity. He commended the former Vice Chancellor for returning to thank God for his tenure, an attribute that is encouraged in the Bible and obeyed by those who fear God and acknowledge his love for them.

Prof. Maimako in a remark expressed gratitude to God for lifting him up from a humble background and entrusting him with a huge responsibility such as the leadership of one of the prominent Federal Universities in Nigeria.

He thanked both the Management, staff and students of the University of Jos for supporting and challenging him to give his best in the last five years. Maimako also expressed deep appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Lalong, Minister of Education, among others for backing

him throughout his tenure.

Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Gray Ejikeme described the era of Prof. Maimako as very productive and inspiring, with tangible academic and physical development results that have made teaching and research easier.

Catholic Women Organization Of Nigeria Visits Gov.Lalong.

The Catholic Women Organisation of Nigeria (CWON) has commended Governor Simon Bako Lalong for his inclusive leadership style that has promoted peace and greater harmony in the State and nation at large.

CWON Secretary Board of Trustees, Lady Rose Agur stated this when she led the Executive Committee of the body to the Government House Rayfield Jos to pay a courtesy visit to the Governor and present to him the new President of CWON

Dame Mary Assipi Gonsun.

She appreciated the Governor for his disposition to reach out to people across religious, denominational and social groups. She appreciated the donation of a bus to the CWON and other forms of support that have facilitated the work of evangelism.

She also told the Governor that the National Executive Committee was in Jos for its Retreat and Executive Meeting.

Responding, Governor Lalong said he was delighted with the honour of the visit by the Catholic Women Organisation which is the umbrella body of women in

the Catholic Church.

He urged them to pray for Nigeria and the leadership as well as followership for God to grant them wisdom and ability to resolve the challenges of the nation.

Gov.Lalong Attends APC Stakeholders Meeting Ahead Ward Congresses.

Ahead of the ward congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has called on members of the party in the State to come together and ensure a peaceful and smooth conduct that will further

strengthen the party.

Governor Lalong while addressing the stakeholders in Jos, said the ward congress elections are meant to give the party a stronger foundation for the consolidation of its successes in the State and across the

country.

He called on members to be transparent and conduct themselves in a manner that will build harmony, peace and equity among members and also make the party maintain its position as the

largest party in the country.

The Governor advised the members to abide by the guidelines for the conduct of the primaries and also ensure that all avenues for consensus are exhausted for the emergence of ward officials. Where such is not reached, elections should be conducted in a peaceful atmosphere and without any rancour.

Lalong urged those saddled with the task of conducting the elections to ensure that only registered members are allowed to participate in the process.

Acting Caretaker Chairman of the APC in Plateau State said the stakeholders meeting is meant to prepare the members for the task ahead which is very crucial. According to him, the party is working to ensure that all arrangements are done on time to provide for a smooth

exercise.

He said lessons have been learnt from the recently conducted Local Government primaries as aggrieved persons are being heared by the reconciliation committee.

Deputy Speaker House of Representatives Idris Wase appealed to the stakeholders and party officials to be fair to all the members of the party who are aspiring for offices during the ward congresses.

Also contributing, Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly Saleh Shehu Yipmong expressed optimism that the party will come out of the process stronger because of the leadership of the Governor who has been fair to all and always willing to lead by example.

Former Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) in Niger State, Comrade Jonathan Vatsa, has lambasted the 9th National Assembly of the Nigerian Senate for the proposed bill seeking death penalty for anyone convicted

for hate speech.

While addressing selected journalists in Minna, the former Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism in the state described the move as not only laughable but a direct invitation for anarchy.

The APC chieftain advised the 9th Assembly to also propose a bill that will apply for lands in the 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja as did for Ruga to be used as cemetery for hate speech offenders that will be killed.

According to Vatsa: “I call on Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi to also propose a bill that will ensure we have separate cemetery for offenders so that we can have it as tourist’s sites with inscriptions ‘Hate Speech’ cemetery because the offenders may also include those of us who have benefitted from hate speech.

“What a shame.” Vatsa wondered why the APC-controlled Senate should ever contemplate such a “draconian and unpopular law,” saying:

“We rode to power in 2015 through hate speech.“We (APC) brought hate speech to Nigeria politics and I am one of them.

“As a Publicity Secretary of the APC, I know how we used hate speech to mobilize Nigerians against the then ruling party. “And it paid off because Nigerians eventually hated the Peoples Democratic Party.

“Before 2015, Nigerians did not know anything like hate speech.

“In fact, since the return of democracy in 1999, we are just hearing about hate speech.

“APC as a political party brought hate to politics in form of propaganda.“The truth must be told: we are the architect of hate speech and nobody complained about it.

“We enjoyed it and it worked for us.

“If we think we have failed Nigerians in our change promises, we should be bold enough to tell Nigerians that we are sorry, we couldn’t deliver, but to try to cage them by trying to introduce or recycle Decree 4 of 1984 in the name of hate speech is unacceptable.”

The APC chieftain while blaming the Senate Deputy Whip, who is from Niger North Senatorial District, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, warned that the proposed bill for death penalty for hate speech “might consume all of us”.

Vatsa said rather than proposing death penalty for hate speech offenders, it should be death penalty for corrupt leaders in this country because “corruption and injustice gave birth to what is now being called hate speech.

“If there is justice, equity, fairness and respect for rule of law, there will be no hate speech.

“But when people are being marginalized and denied their right, surely there will be hate speech.

“You cannot stop people from expressing their freedom of speech.

“If the Senate is proposing death penalty for hate speech, then what will they do to Boko Haram, armed bandits, kidnappers, oil bunkers and treasury looters both politicians and civil servants? “All these things are worse than hate speech. “There are more pressing issues to Nigerians that the Senate should look into and address instead of wasting their energy on an unpopular bill like this one that will not see the light of the day.”

Vatsa however believes that there are more to the proposed hate speech bill, adding: “If the rumor of President Muhammadu Buhari nursing the ambition of third term is correct, then they need death penalty for hate speech to silence everybody who will want to oppose him.

“But the Senate should know that he who lives in a glass house should not throw stone because they cannot be there forever.

“When they leave the Senate, the law can catch up with them.

“Again, if the money meant for constituency projects are utilized for the purpose it was meant for and the people begin to see dividends of democracy, there will be no need for hate speech.

“If the millions of Nigerian youths can have something to do to earn a living, they will not have time for hate speech.

“If people are allowed to elect their leaders in a free and fair election there will be no hate speech.“So, something gave birth to hate speech and that is what the Senate should address.”

Governor Bako Lalong has hosted the Plateau state contingent to the National Sports Festival, Edo 2020 at the Banquet Hall of the New Government House, Little Rayfield, as he gives the athletes different Cashrewards.

Governor Lalong said their efforts at the games were worth celebrating and remains a source of pride which reinforces the rich sporting history of Plateau State.

He said “After intensive competition at the 12-day National Sports Fiesta in Edo State, Plateau contingent took the 13th position and came home with 37 medals comprising of 8 gold, 13 silver, and 16 bronze. Although our aim was to emerge top, we are nevertheless proud of the efforts of our contingentwho gave their best.

I congratulate the athletes, coaches and other supporting staff for making us proud as the second best team in the North and the best in the North Central.”

Lalong then showered the athletes and their coaches with cash gifts by announcing that “all gold medalists will receive the sum of 1 million Naira each; Silver Medalists 700 Thousand Naira each; and Bronze Medalists 500 Thousand Naira each. Medal winning Coaches will also receive a flat rate of 300 Thousand Naira each; while other athletes will get ‘Thanks for Coming’ to be delivered by the Commissioner for Sports andYouth Development.”

The Governor said his administration is determined to continue to develop sports particularly by developing grassroots sports which identifies, and projects future stars. He directed the Commissioners for Sports, Education as well as Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs to work together in restoring and reinvigorating the various school competitions, community games and other engagements that have huge benefits for talent discovery.

“I want the situation where each year, we should put together our own version of Plateau Sports Festival where we can comprehensively identify, harness and package our sporting talents who can go out to fly the flag of the State. This will be a springboard for their journey to the global stage” he said.

Commissioner for sports Mr. Victor Lapan praised the Lalong administration, which has continued to pay attention to developing sporting talents particularly at the grassroots through various youth programmes that discover, groom and showcase hidden potentials. According to him, since assuming office, Governor Lalong has sponsored Plateau sportsmen and women to various Championships and Tournaments which resulted in winning a total of 170 gold; 157 silver; and 170bronze medals.

Lapan said the Lalong Rescue Administration has not lonely emphasised prioritization in project implementation, but has also opened its doors to the private sector to continue partnering with Government by sponsoring various sporting events and assisting in developing facilities.

Team Captain Ifeoma Juliet said the contingent was overwhelmed by the magnanimity of the Governor who surprised the athletes with such handsomefinancial gifts.

She appealed to the Governor to look at other issues of the welfare and logistics of the athletes, assuring that they will do more to deliver more victories to the State.

As muslims in Plateau State join other faithfuls across the world to mark Eid-el-Kabir, Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has expressed warm felicitations and admonished them to embrace the lessons of the exercise and work for a better society.

Governor Lalong particularly described the growing spirit of tolerance and religious harmony in Plateau State as a welcome development which he said was enhancing confidence

and improving the economy.

Governor Lalong felicitation message dated 20th July,2021is contained in a press statement signed by the Director of press and public affairs to the Governor Makut Macham and made available to journalists in Jos.

He said the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir presents another opportunity for the Muslim community to reach out to indigent members of society and people of other faiths by extending the

blessings of the moment.

On security, the Governor expressed happiness that religiously-motivated insecurity has been largely tackled in Plateau State, saying attention now is on criminality that borders on vices such as banditry, kidnapping, destruction of crops and livestock as well as attacks on innocent citizens.

This he said the Government is fighting with all its might to overcome as it has recently procured 200 security motorcycles and 50 patrol vans to boost the capacity of security agencies to deal with crimes in all

parts of the State.

The Governor also commended security agencies for working round the clock to secure the State before, during and after the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

Courts Set For Annual Vacation, Garuba Pwul (SAN) Said Adjudication Is Gaining More Public Confidence.

As the courts begin vocation Saturday, Chief Garba Pwul, SAN, said adjudication in Nigeria is gaining more public confidence in recent times.

Pwul, who made the assertion in an interview with Newsmen in Jos on Monday, said that the recent autonomy granted the judiciary by the Federal Government, would go a long way in speeding adjudication in our courts.

The Wikipedia defines adjudication as a legal process of resolving a dispute or deciding a case.

It says further that when a case is brought, courts identify the rights of the parties at that particular moment by analysing what were, in law, the rights and wrongs of their actions when they occurred.

Pwul said further that there was need for proper equipping of the courts with the- state- of- the art gadgets, as well as training of the Judges and judicial staff on ICT devices for speedy dispensation of cases.

“It’s obvious recently that the Nigerian Courts are doing very well in handling cases.

“And I believe if they are well equipped, incidences of cases spending 20 to 30 years before judgements are granted, will be a thing of the past.

“Just as the murder case of Late Peter Rinji, a 300 Level student at the University of Jos, which I am handling on behalf of the Plateau State Government, took less than a year for us to complete our prosecution.

“If it were not for the two months’ strike of the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), we could have commenced the defense.

“That is one case which is being tried expeditiously having aroused public interest. This is because if we don’t prosecution speedily, tension may likely hover in the atmosphere.

“I am so happy that we are through with our prosecution before Justice David Mann, of High Court II, after taking seven witnesses, and defense will commence at the next adjourned dates of Sept 19 and Sept 20,” he explained.

According to him, “everybody is waiting for justice to be served more so that there is an element of police brutality, which is being condemned across the world.”

He asserted that the killing of Rinji on May 12, 2020, by a dismissed Police officer, Sgt Auta Aruwa, was something close to the killing of George Floyd of the United States of America.

The SAN said, “To avoid people taking to the streets, we must ensure that justice is not denied, as “Justice delayed, is Justice denied.”

“We must also be aware that “Justice rushed, is Justice crashed.” Therefore, in as much as we are out for speedy trial, we must also ensure that sufficient opportunity is given to everyone concerned, especially both the prosecution and the defense to put in their best,

“It’s on the truth that justice is based and not falsehood, so witnesses should always tell the courts exactly what they know and tell the courts the truth and nothing but the truth,” he admonished.

Pwul, who wished the Judges and all the Judicial staff a blissful and glorious vocation, expressed optimism, that on resumption in Sept 13, the judiciary would fare well technically, for speedy dispensing of cases.

Kaigama said, “A good leader is always compassionate. He feels the pains of his people and is ever available to them and uses all the resources in his power for their good. He or she seeks to foster the spirit of solidarity, harmonious coexistence and proper integration to achieve set goals rather than stir division and hate.

“Jeremiah was dismayed by political leaders of the time who failed to cater for the people entrusted to their care, but were rather interested more in their personal comfort, thus, exploiting and scattering the people.

“Prophet Jeremiah decried this failure of leadership, characterized by lack of vision, which led to the destruction of Judah and the taking into captivity of the people by King Nebuchadnezzar.

“Of the many challenges we face as a country, the challenge of leadership prevails. Persons who have been duly elected and saddled with the responsibilities of offering service to the teeming populace end up exploiting the poor masses and embezzling public funds meant to provide basic social amenities such as food, clothing, shelter, education, security, healthcare services and many others.

“Jeremiah’s prophecy of a virtuous branch from the descendant of David to reign as a true and diligent king found fulfillment in Jesus. In our case too, once there is life, there is hope. Even in such difficult times of political, social and economic crises,God promises to restore and heal our land.

“Today, God offers a serious admonishment to all leaders; priests as well as pastors, parents/guardians, teachers, and indeed, all who are in leadership positions to watch over those under their care with tenderness and compassion; not with negligence and indifference.

“Political leaders should protect the helpless masses from violent attacks on their lives and destruction of their property. Priests and pastors of souls should protect the faithful from the wave of erroneous teaching by promoting sound moral anddoctrinal teachings.

“Parents/guardians should protect the children from domestic violence and any form of child abuse. Teachers should offer helpful guide by way of example to the younger ones. Today, leaders are challenged to have the heart of Jesus; to exercise authority with fidelity and responsibility; like Jesus, to empty themselves of power and to empathize with the suffering of the people.

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has visited the widow and children of the former Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Barnabas Bala, to comfort them and register his deep regrets over the sad

incident.

The governor who visited the deceased’s residence in Abuja on Friday said the death of Late Barnabas Bala popularly known as Bantex is a personal loss to him and

the people of Plateau State.

He said “He is one person that I don’t know whether to call a Kaduna or Plateau son. He spent a lot of his time in Plateau and considered it

home.

Even as Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, he was always passionate about happenings in Plateau State and contributed to finding solutions to many of our challenges.

The same way he also came to us to see that we also collaborated with Kaduna State whenever there are challenges. I have lost a brother but I will not query God on what He has done. Bala lived a good life and I received the news with great shock”.

The deceased’s son, Mr. Banta Bala thanked the Governor for his visit and the friendship he had with his father, saying he personally saw their close relationship and also knew how the Governor supported his late father and also showed true friendship even during this difficult time.

Special prayers were conducted for the family and

the soul of the deceased.

Similarly, the Governor was at the residence of the Late Executive Director Legal of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) Mohammed Mahmood in Abuja to condole with the family. The Governor described the death of Mahmood as shocking and painful.

Governor however stressed that the deceased lived a life of compassion, hardwork, sincerity and commitment. He prayed God to grant the family the fortitude to bear

the loss.

Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Most Revd Matthew Kukah, on Wednesday, said the Federal Government has failed to handle the issue of security which it promised to do before taking overpower.

He said this during his virtual presentation to the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission in Washington, DC, on the persecution of Christians in Nigeria by armed extremist groups in the North.

Kukah said the people are yet to see any tangible move towards tackling Nigeria’s insecurity which, according to him, has a religious undertone.

He stated that the people were agitated, adding that there was palpable fear and tension across the country.

The clergy, in his testimony before the US Congress Commission, claimed religious violence against Christians in Nigeria was a recurring experience of many years, but the spate of the attacks has risen steadily

in the last 10 years.

According to Bishop Kukah, the extremists target mainly Christian schools in the North, “indoctrinate the children and end up converting the girls to wives, cooks, spies, sexual slaves and so on.

“The story of Leah Sharibu suggests very clearly that there is, in many instances, a relationship between the conditions in which people find themselves and the faith they believe in.”

According to Bishop Kukah, “The last year 2020, some of our Priests in the North were killed. The extremists kidnapped our children and forcefully converted them to Muslims.

“We have issued statements and called the attention of the government to our plight. We have also reached out to let the government know that we are willing to cooperate towards the greatness of our country.”

The Bishop, who is the Secretary of the National Peace Committee, accused President Muhammadu Buhari of deliberately appointing more people of his ethnicity and faith into political offices.

He said, “The North even the whole country is invaded by armed bandits, kidnappers etc who attack communities at will. The fact that the government seems to be either helpless or uninterested in dealing decisively with these people has added more confusion.

“And the contradiction here is that the President has blatantly pursued nepotistic…, and policies that show very clearly his preferences for men and women of his faith.”

The Bishop of Sokoto Diocese also said “for the first time in Nigeria the people heading three arms of government; the President, Senate President Speaker, and Chief Justice are all Muslims. These are all fine gentlemen, but that is not the point. The level between Christians and Muslims has exacerbated. This kind of situation has

never happened before.

“What is significant here is that we are in a democracy; with weak structures, and institutions. These are existential issues. So, we require practical assistance that can help us and our children.”

Progressive Congress(APC).

John Akans said the time for the people of Nigeria as a country and plateau people as state to stand up and savage the pieces of the country and the state that is at verge of total collapse occasioned from the bad governance of the APC government is now.

He further add that the citizens of the country and state should not just stand akimbo and watch why our hard earned democracy collapse before our very eyes.

Today, what was predicted has manifested bare before everyone. Those mostly affected are the political fanatics who knew Lalong has nothing to offer but yet votes for him because they hated Baba Jonah David Jang CON and therefore he should be disgraced.

Governor lalong himself and the All Progressive Congress APC are presently confused and are at loggerheads courtesy of over 6 year period of grand deception betrayals and corruption. Many who kept quite thought that personal benefits would serve as compensation but with less than 2 years to go, the coast is getting clearer.

With nothing to show since 2015, they can only but advance a leadership style with lies and propaganda in which they continue to modify pictures of projects already commissioned by previous administration as part of their achievement, indeed this is the danger of voting incompetent leaders

without capacity and vision.

Our democracy today is collapsing under the APC because of the weakening of political institutions that should sustain democratic system, such as free and fair, peaceful conduct of elections and economic equality, as it was witnessed today on the floor of both chambers of the national Assembly.

Instead of consolidating on the gains of democracy achieved by the PDP, Lalong has become so power drunk that all he thinks now is how to use power to deal with enemies and reward friends and family members.

From 2015 to date ,democratic process in Nigeria particularly Plateau state has been inserted with inefficiencies in every facet of governance.

Across the nation several states are now experiencing massive turnover on economic viability with substantial infrastructure, but Lalong’s draconian and anaemic response to development has led the state into economic woos where the state is now backward in all sectors of development.

Today, Plateau has become the epicenter of poor governance in Nigeria with almost 89% of abandoned projects and still with rising debt profile of almost #408

billion.

Lalong and the APC are the worst things that have happened to Plateau in recent times. While other states are moving forward, Plateau is not. His poor leadership quality has affected governance and politics and the result is glaring ineptitude and lack of direction in governance.

For example, in 2016 he promised to rebuild the Jos main market and wasted 1:4 billion Naira just to demolished the old structure for new one to be built, but to date nothing to show and no explanation has been given. He also promised to implement the 30% minimum wage and to clear all outstanding pensions and gratuities. Nepotism has reached its crescendo and its obvious he will leave the state more nepotistic than he met it.

The leadership deficiency under Lalong and the APC is very clear. It is obvious he was not prepared for the position but he just loved to be in power. Before becoming governor, Lalong is obsessed with power to the extent that in almost every small association he belonged, he was chairman or never.

Even in his children school, he was PTA chairman and so was he of the forum of former legislators. He loves power for its sake and not the responsibility it should provide.

Today on the Plateau we are faced with the glimpse reality of a driver who cannot drive but has the driving licence in his pocket.

He is not even bothered about his total failures as a governor because he lacks the capacity for assessment.

Many contracts have been signed by the state government and some contractors for example, the contentious and controversial legacy projects where as at today #630 million is being deducted from Plateau state monthly subvention.

The question now is who is benefiting from the #630 million that is being deducted every month now that the contract has been suspended?

How can a party be in office for seven years without showcasing any meaningful achievement? Only economic and leadership inefficiency .

Fellow Plateau and Nigerians this moment is not about you weighing an option for possible alternative to our democratic survival, but should look for viable solution to our current challenges which is the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

Throughout the years of PDP administration in the state and the nation,the party was able to give a direction to governance and focus to where the state was heading to. But under Lalong and the APC, Plateau has been on autopilot with no one seemingly on seat of governance. He is only occupying the seat of power as Chairman of the northern

Governors forum.

NUJ Vice President Zone (D) Wilson Bako And 3 Others Declare Wanted By Police For Court Contempt.

The National Industrial Court sitting in Makurdi Division, Benue State capital has directed the State Commissioner of Police, Madaki Audu to effect the arrest of the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Chris Isiguzo, National Secretary, Leman Shuaib and the Vice president Zone D, Mr Wilson Bako over contempt of court.

Others ordered to be arrested are, chairman and secretary of the credentials committee, Chris Apiu and James Shim respectively as well as the purported elected State Executive Council members led by Bemdo Ubger.

The Court presided over by I.J, Essien, however, exempted the immediate past acting chairman of the council, Comrade Kajo Martins for complying with the order of the court by staying away from the saidelection.

It will be recalled that a member of the union from State Information chapel, Oduen Dura had dragged the union to industrial court, Makurdi division seeking interpretation of the national secretariat of the union had the right to violate its constitution by qualifying candidates that were disqualified by the credentials committee.

The credential committee had earlier disqualified Bemdoo Ubger of Radio Benue chapel and Terna Umah of NTA chapel for fallen short of 50%attendance as required by the union’s constitution.

But the national Secretariat later cleared the duo of Ugber and Umah were cleared to join other contestants; Dennis Ayom of the State Information and Vincent Nyinongu of The Prime chapel.

The respondents are; the national president of NUJ, national secretary, Vice President, Zone D, Chairman of credential committee, secretary of the credential committee and the state acting chairman of NUJ.

Following this, the industrial court restrained the national Secretariat from conducting the election scheduled for July, 3rd, 2021 and was flouted.

When the case came up, counsel to the Claimant (Orduen Dura), R.I. Wombo prayed the court to commit to prison all the respondents including Vice president Zone D. Wison Bako and all those that emerged as leaders at that election.

The learned Counsel also prayed the court to exempt the acting chairman, Kajo Martins from committal to prison.

In his ruling, Justice Essien who ordered that the State Commissioner of Police, Audu Madaki to arrest the respondents a and elected officials also directed Mr Ugber to handover any property of the union in his possession to the Interim Caretaker Committee led by Comrade Steven Ijoh and should stop parading himself as leader of the union in the state.

He later adjourned the case to the 28th of July, 2021.

Governor Lalong was speaking on behalf of his colleagues in Kano, during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the third segment of Lagos Kano railway modernisation project performed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to the Governor, the Kaduna-Kano segment of the railway line is crucial to the development of Nigeria and particularly the Northern Region which has a lot of economic activities and a large population.

He said the vision of reconnecting all parts of the country by rail is a great legacy for the Buhari Administration which must be supported by all Nigerians. He assured the President of the support of all Northern Governors in the process of constructing, managing and safeguarding the rail infrastructure within the region.

President Muhammadu Buhari expressed delight that the Kaduna-Kano leg of the railway modernisation project is taking off after the successful deployment of the Lagos-Ibadan and Abuja Kaduna segments and other rail segments across the country.

He said the Kano-Kaduna construction is part of the general plan to link the seaport with inland ports that will provide more opportunities for businessmen to import goods and recieve them in the hinterland, thereby decongesting the ports and saving time and resources.

Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi said the groundbreaking ceremony is a confirmation of the success story of the Buhari administration in reviving the railways and giving Nigerians a new lease of life.

He said the line will have one of the biggest stations in Nigeria which will serve passengers of the Kano-Maradi route. He said over twenty thousand jobs will be created in the cause of the construction of the Kaduna-Kano rail line.

Gov.Lalong Signs Autonomy,Land Administration And 2 Other Bills Into Law.

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong on Wednesday 14th July 2021 signed Judiciary Autonomy , Land Administration and 2 other bills passed by the Plateau State House of Assembly into law at the New Government House, Little Rayfield Jos .

The bills signed into law include Plateau State Legislative Funds Management Law; Plateau State Judiciary Funds Management Law; Plateau State Property and Land Use Charge Law; and the Plateau

Geographic Services Law.

While signing the bills into law, Governor Lalong said the new Funds Management Law for the Judiciary and Legislature will guide the implementation of the recently granted autonomy for the two arms of Government particularly in terms of financial management.

According to Governor Lalong, the laws will guide the Judiciary and Legislature on the implementation of autonomy with regards to funds disbursement, approvals and expenditure in line with extant financial

regulations.

“These laws will further strengthen the two institutions by ensuring that funds are judiciously applied to the various needs of the Judiciary and Legislature. It will also assist the two arms to work within the framework of the MOU for the autonomy which was arrived at after thorough engagement between the three arms”.

On the new Property and Land Use Charge and the Plateau Geographic Information Services (PLAGIS) laws, Governor Lalong said they are significant in improving land administration in the State as well as boosting revenue generation.

He said “as we sign the law on autonomy, there is greater demand for resources which must be sourced locally. One of the things that will give us financial freedom as a State is for people to pay charges on their properties which hitherto have not been collected. That way, we can get resources to develop the State and provide services. This law will also enable us to enumerate all properties as well as name streets and number houses across the State”.

The Governor said the new laws are not meant to burden the citizens but to enable each property owner contribute to the development of the State. He said the PLAGIS law will make land administration more secure, flexible and reliable as well as ensure that all land data is captured, transformed and maintained in electronic format.

Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Barr. Chrysanthus Ahmadu said the 4 laws are crucial for the good governance and economic development of the State particularly as they border on revenue generation and land management.

He said with the new Property and Land Charge Law, all owners of developed landed properties whether with titles, building plan approvals or not, will be required to comply with all stipulated charges. Whiel failure will attract sanctions, compliance will attract incentives .

Ahmadu said the law harmonises the collection of all land charges including tenement rates that Lcoal Governments are empowered to enforce. This he said is captured in the new collection and sharing arrangement between the State and Local Governments which was done in line with the provisions of the Constitution that empowers such arrangement. He assured that all tenement rates will be centrally collected and shared in line with the formular agreed upon.

He also said the issues of delay, missen files, corruption and other leakages wil be blocked once the implementation of the new PLAGIS law

commences.

The PLAGIS law provides for a Director General, Company Secretary and other supporting staff who will manage the agency.

The Governor thereafter presided over the State Revenue Council Meeting.

Gov.Lalong Promise To Overhaul Civil Service, Intensify Fight For Rights Of People With Disability.

Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State has promised to continue the overhaul of the State civil service in order to make it more efficient and responsive to the demands

of current challenges.

Governor Lalong stated this while swearing in some members of Statutory Boards and Commissions at the New Government House Rayfield Jos.

Among those sworn in are the Chairman and Members of the State Civil Service Commission, Disability Rights Commission, Plateau Independent Electoral Commission, State House of Assembly Service

Commission among others.

Lalong said the State Civil Service remains the engine of governance which must be constantly upgraded to perform effectively. According to him, this has led to current audit to remove ghost workers and those who have tampered with their records to remain in office perpetually.

He said “as experienced technocrats, Plateau State will be relying on you to deploy the best of your skills, techniques, and experiences to track down ghost workers, and other fraudulent staff who have over the years tampered with their records to perpetually remain in service.

This is the only way we can save cost and open up doors for the younger ones to be engaged in service and bring in fresh ideas about governance. Moreover, this is a generation that is driven by Information and Communication Technologies that are at the tip of the fingers of our children. Why then would someone continue to tamper with records to block the younger ones from having an opportunity to serve the

State and the nation?”.

While admonishing the members of the Disability Rights Commission to be up and doing, the Governor said he will continue to fight for the rights of people living with disability and ensure their welfare is given priority.

On revenue generation, the Governor said the target is to raise the internally generated revenue of the State to over 3 billion naira monthly. He charged the Chairman of the PSIRS to drive the process and ensure that the new revenue vision comes to pass.

Lalong also harped on the issue of transparency and accountability by charging the Auditor General of the State; the Director General of Procurement; and the Member of the State House of Assembly Commission; to be up and doing particularly as they were coming into office when the State has already commenced implementing Full Autonomy for the Legislature and Judiciary.

He said there is greater need for transparency, accountability and due diligence across the three arms to ensure that resources are used judiciously and for the benefit of the people.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, Mr. Luka Fwangyil promised to do their best and serve the State with diligence and honesty. He promised that they will work in tandem with the mandate of the Governor to cleanse the civil service and make it more credible.

Gov.Lalong Condoles Catholic Church Over The Death Of Rev.Fr Raymond Hickey.

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has described the late Augustinian Catholic Priest Rev. Fr. Raymond Hickey, as a man whose love and passion for Nigeria and its people transcended the barriers of religion, ethnicity or socio-political attributes.

Governor Lalong who eulogized the cleric during a condolence visit to the Augustinian Community at St. Monica’s Parish Rantya, Jos, to commiserate with the Church over the demise of the Irish Priest said the deceased had deep faith in Nigeria’s unity, peace and progress and also held a huge reservoir of knowledge on the history of many challenges and successes of the country, particularly the Northern Region where he spent about 60 years

preaching the gospel.

Lalong said “Indeed the death of Rev. Fr. Raymond Hickey is a great loss to the Catholic Church as it has lost one of its committed Missionaries that devoted his life to the service of God and humanity. Having spent his almost 60 years of priesthood in Nigeria serving between Maiduguri Diocese, Yola Diocese, Jos Archdiocese and in the Apostolic Nunciature, Abuja, the late Rev. Fr. Raymond Hickey, ministered to Catholics, non-Catholics and people of different religious, cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds”.

He also said his love for Nigeria enabled him to easily connect with her people at all levels while working for the salvation of their souls, reconciling them to God and championing their rights. Little wonder, he has earned tremendous respect and variously described as a historian, researcher, conservator, an author, but above all, as a humble and dedicated Irish Augustinian priest.

Responding, Rev. Fr. (Prof) Anthony Kanu, (OSA) the Prior Provincial, Order of St. Augustine, Province of Nigeria, thanked the governor for commiserating with them and said the deceased had given the Augustinians in Nigeria a positive connecting identity through his great works across the country.

“He was a historian and the respect accorded him is also accorded us. We shall miss Fr. Raymond Hickey, we have actually enjoyed the fruit of his labour and the dividends are still with us,” he said.

He expressed confidence that Hickey’s works would be written in the annals of history, and will for the next 100 years , remain a valuable resource for anyone writing the history of Catholic Church in Northern Nigeria.

Rev. Fr. Raymond Hickey was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1936 and ordained a catholic priest in 1960 in Rome before being posted for missionary work to Nigeria. He came to Nigeria as a Catholic missionary and served in Borno and Yobe states for 28 years. Fr. Raymond has lived among the people of Zaladava of Pulka, the Karekare, Ngezim and Ngamo of Fika division, the Kanakuru and Bura of Shani. He also served in Bekaji, Jimeta/Yola, as well as Jos, Lagos and Mararabar Ngurku, outside Abuja. Untill his death, he was a priest of the Jos Diocese.

The people of southern Nigeria are dagger drown as they threatened to ceased to be part of the country call Nigeria if the Northern Nigeria insist to produce the next president 2023.

In a recent interview with the Edo state Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shuaibu, he revealed that the 17 Southern States are ready to leave the Nigeria Union if their request that the presidency should be zoned to the South is not agreed to by the Northern elites.

He explained that the only thing the North has to offer Nigeria is their unproductive population which they use to intimidate the South, while the resources of the country are domiciled in Southern

Nigeria.

“They should go with their population while we go with our resources.”

Governors’ under the auspacies of Northern Governors’ Forum has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Deputy Governor of Kaduna State Architect Barnabas Yusuf Bala fondly referred to as Bantex.

The Forum expressed shock dated 11th July,2021 is contained in a press statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor of Plateau state who doubled as the chairman of the Forum , Simon Makut Macham and made available to this

He described the late Deputy Governor as an accomplished professional Architect, politician of high repute and integrity, who served his community, State and Nigeria with passion, honesty and patriotism.

He said “our brother and friend was a man whose primary concern was on how to ensure that justice, peace and progress prevails among people of various religious and ethnic backgrounds as well as build common ground for peaceful coexistence.

This was clearly demonstrated in the way he conducted himself as pioneer Secretary General of the Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU); Chairman, Kaura Local Government; Member Representing Kaura Federal Constituency at the National Assembly; Deputy Governor of Kaduna State between 2015 and 2019; as well as several other responsibilities he was assigned throughout his life time”.

Lalong said apart from his passion for the development of the country, the late Bantex was always desirous of the rapid development and unity of the North as he worked with the Forum vigorously towards adressing insecurity, poverty, disease, illiteracy and misunderstandings exacerbated by ethno-religious sentiments.

While praying God to grant his soul eternal rest and comfort his family, Governor Lalong said his legacies will continue to be remembered for a very long time.

2023: Kogi Central Group Supports Power Shift To West.

A political pressure group, the Kogi Central Political Ambassadors, KCPA, has consented to the agitations that power should move to the Western Senatorial District in the 2023 governorahip elections.

The group said the endorsement was in line with equity, fairness and

Justice.

The KCPA in a statement issued and signed by the Chairman,Malam Muhammed Onimisi, noted that its surveys among the APC and PDP supporters, on the 2023 gubernatorial power shift indicated that the majority fully support that power should move to the West.

According to the statement; “Kogi state is a by-product of both old Kabba province and kwara state respectively. At a particular period in our political evolution, the present three senatorial districts were under Kabba province before the Eastern flank ceded to Benue state while the Central and the west remained in kwara state.

“Today, the East, Central and West senatorial districts are co- habiting in Kogi state.

The Kogi Central Political Ambassadors is a network of persons who believed very strongly on Kogi project where equity, fairness, and Justice shall continue to be a Hallmark of our existence as a people. The political agitation in Kogi state has been power shift, power rotation and power balance. As we approach 2023, various groups are already ventilating and the agitations gathering momentum.

Kogi State Poly. Student Sentence To (8)Years Imprison For Illegal Possession Of Firearms.

A Magistrate Court sitting in Lokoja has sentenced Shehu Tenimu Mohammed, an ND II student of the Department of Public Administration, Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja to eight years in prisonment for illegal possession of a firearm, unlawful association.

Delivering his Judgement, Magistrate Tenimu Mohammed convicted the suspect on the three count charge having pleaded guilty to the offenses in the charge sheet. He was also fined the sum of Eight thousand Naira.

Barr. Samuel Ikutanwa, the prosecuting counsel at the resumed hearing had demanded for the charges to be read to the hearing of the accused person, who instantly pleaded guilty to committing the offenses of unlawful association, possession of Firearm and been a member of a cult group.

Recalled that the security operatives of Kogi State Polytechnic had arrested Shehu Tenimu Mohammed for being in possession of a locally fabricated revolver pistol.

Shehu Tenimu Mohammed with Matriculation Number 2018/ND/PAD/170 was in addition to the illegal possession of the pistol, also caught carrying five rounds of live ammunition while making his way through the main entrance of the Polytechnic on Friday, 9th April, 2021.

The arrest of Shehu Tenimu Mohammed was made possible by the strong security network put in place to halt attempt to breach the ban on End-of- Examination Celebration by the Management of the

Institution.

The ban it would be recalled came into force following intelligence report that some suspected cultists planned invading the campus with ammunitions to avenge their colleague who was killed after the end of examination in 2019.

Management under the proactive leadership of Dr S.O. Usman had beefed up security on the campus, including daily routine check at the Polytechnic entrance and the premises which led to the arrest of the culprit.

The Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos Division presided over by ,Justice David Mang has adjourned to the 19th and 20th Oct, 2021 for opening of defense in a suit filed by the Plateau State Government challenging the extra judicial Killing of a 300 Level student of the University of Jos .

Prosecuting the matter pro bono on behalf of the Plateau state Government, Barr. Garba Pwul., SAN, says he has closed his case with 7th witnesses with high expectations that the law will take it cause in a case of killing of a 300 Level student of the University of Jos ,Ringji Peter Bala by policeman attached to Operation Save Haven (STF).

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria ,SAN,Garba Pwul who made this known while taking his last witness the Police IPO ,Inspector Martha Bwodang of Crime investigation department, CID,Plateau State Command Headquarters during Monday sitting in Jos.

The PW7 inspector Martha Bwodang told the court during her cross examination that the accused person ,Sqt Auta Aruwa and Sqt Emmanuel Amos are police officers attached to Sector (1) of the Operation Safe Heaven .

She said as the IPO handling the investigation the accused person sqt Auta Aruwa was posted at gate on 1st April,2020 that very day the deceased were brought in alone his friends on alleged terrorizing Hwolshe community of Jos South Local Government Council during the covid-19 lockdown .

The deceased along side his friends were arrested and taken to sector 1 office and later release so the accused person wasn’t communicated that they were ask to go because they were all running out in different direction and Sqt Auta Aruwa the accused person try to stop them but refuse and he mistakenly open fire which led to the death of Ringji Peter Bala ,she said.

We were drafted to the scene where we conducted thorough investigation on the death of the Ringji Peter Bala ,however, PW4 Sqt Emmanuel Amos also in his witness statement wrote that his colleague mistakenly fire his gun when they trying to stop the boys but they refused to stop and they were rather scattered all over rushing out of the gate.

Meanwhile, on cross examination by the accused person counsel, Barr.Emmanuel Madaki to the PW7 inspector Martha Bwodang ,in your statement you also confirm that the boys refused to stop ,(yes) .

I didn’t know that one of them died ,which the accused person written statements and that of his colleague wrote that they didn’t know that one of them was killed became the incident happen around 9pm and that whole was dark ,PW7 told court .

She said that the incident happen around 9pm and it is practically invisible to see around that time without lighting (yes,My Lord) .

According to Madaki,witness in the cause of your investigation it was discover that bullet wound on the deceased skull only ,(yes,my Lord ) she explains that under the police order 2 rule 37 the accused person shouldn’t have fire gun on an innocent civilian but shot at his legs to arrest .

He told the PW7 inspector Martha Bwodang that since she wasn’t the soldier that investigate the boys she won’t know the crime the alleged they have committed ,(yes My Lord) the officer revealed that they were arrested because the community reported them to STF as members of bad boys who are terrorizing the area that is why they were investigated and found with no weapon on them .

PW7 inspector Martha Bwodang told the court that the accused person used one bullet out of the 30 ammunition given to him but failed to record it on her statement whether the raffle AK47 hold so numbers of ammunitions ,he added.

PW7 inspector Martha ,yes it is confirm that every officer know that there are 30 magazines loaded with 30 rounds bullets but that was not recorded in the accused person investigation .

Barr Emmanuel Madaki disclosed that they are ready to open their defense with only five witnesses which he hope to close his case within two weeks .

Speaking to our correspondent at the Plateau Hotel venue of where all the Arigidi sons and daughters gathered together to mourn the departure of the great

man of God.

Alo said the dead came to them as a shock, but they took solemn in God faith late T.B.Joshua is resting in the blossom of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We all miss him a lot because this is a man that placed all elderly people on monthly stipends and he is now building a university in our community for the children of poor vulnerable who can’t afford to go to school.

He called on the wife of the Late Man of God to continue with the legacy of her late husband by ensuring that the hospital, university he is building be completed and

put to use.

birthday”.

Two months into the implementation of full autonomy for the Legislature and Judiciary in Plateau State, heads of the three Arms of Government have vowed to continue to work together in the interest of citizens of the State.

This is even as Governor Simon Bako Lalong has disclosed that Plateau has become a model for other States who have sent teams to understudy its operations in order to fine-tune their modalities for implementing autonomy in their States.

Governor Lalong was speaking when he received the report of the State Accounts Allocation Committee (SAAC) which provided the framework and final negotiations that led to the adoption of the modalities for implementing autonomy in Plateau State.

Governor Lalong said the implementation of full autonomy for all arms of Government is a clear indication that his Rescue Administration believes in the growth and stability of institutions that are necessary for building democracy and allowing the people to benefit more from good governance.

He said

“right from the onset, we were committed to implementing autonomy because we were never afraid. From the benefit of my experience as a lawyer, legislator and now Governor, I clearly understood that autonomy is a win-win situation for the arms of Government and the people. It will definitely increase accountability and transparency as well as frugal management of resources. Because we were sincere and honest, we had no difficulty in confronting tough hurdles towards reaching a compromise on various issues. Today, many States are coming to learn from us. At the moment, Niger, Adamawa and Nasarawa States have sent their people to come and study what we have done”.

Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Nuhu Abok Ayuba expressed the appreciation of the House to Governor Lalong for his personal commitment and openness which made him to be the first Governor to implement full autonomy even when many States are yet to fully embrace and implement the idea.

He said Governor Lalong has written his name in gold and will remain a shining example for democracy and the rule of law in Nigeria.

Chief Judge of Plateau State Justice Yakubu Gyang Dakwak also appreciated the efforts of the Governor who did not only adhere to legal requirements, but also facilitated political solutions to deal with grey areas that stood in the way of implementing the autonomy in a way to satisfy all the arms of Government.

He maintained that the implementation of Autonomy is by no means a divorce among the three arms of Government, but an arrangement to enhance effectiveness of the arms in serving the people.

He emphasised that the concept of one Government is superior to that of independence, hence the need for more synergy in the new dispensation.

Secretary to the Government of the State Prof. Danladi Atu who chaired the Committee said the members who were drawn from the various arms worked assiduously to reach an amicable resolution and will continue to work together as the implementation continues, in order to eliminate any challenge that may arise.

The Governor will also sign the Funds Management Law which has been passed and is a key component of implementing autonomy as it will guide the management of all funds accruing to the various tiers

of Government.

The Executive Director , Nigeria Bible Translation Trust (NBTT),Mrs Patience Marcus Toma stated this in her welcome address to mark the organization 45th anniversary and commemoration service in honor of Late Dr.Akani Ibiam the founding father of the (NBTT) held at the Nigeria Bible Translation Trust(NBTT)in Jos, plateau state.

The Executive Director (NBTT) said although 1st July every year is set aside to celebrate God’s Grace, Mercies and faithfulness on the Trust , but this year celebration is slightly different as we have decided to add to the usual by commemorating one of the founding father of the organization late Dr. Akanu lbiam whom many other eminent Nigeria christians ,came together and took over activities from the then Institute of Linguistics Trust started by John Theodore Bendor Samuel which was registered as Nigeria organization with the Corporate Affairs Commission on 1st July,1976.

She said we are celebrating the journey knowing fully well that this vision that have been received most not die as generations has greater responsibility of reaching out to lost souls in time now that the enemy has waged war against the body of Christ in Nigeria.

She further add that over the years ,the Lord has helped the organization to work with over One Hundred and Fifty (150) languages most of whom have New Testament , some Old Testament and their mother tongue which is not enough but to see individuals and Communities reading and writing in their languages and share the scripture among themselves.

Mrs Toma further revealed that (NBTT)have signed Memorandum of Understanding (Mou) with Twenty (20) languages which is yet to take off largely due to lack of fundings.

For the organization to strengthen it’s capacity and enhance it’s translation efficiency ,we have reopened the language training session to train translator , pastors ,and interested members of the public on Hebrew , Greek and other languages.

The board chairman Rev. Dauda Jimra who doubled as chief host of the occasion said although he is newly appointed as the organization board chairman, said history revealed that the (NBTT)has survived it 45th years of existence with faithfulness of God.

He said the year under review has been tumultuous with the global Covid-19 , political unrest, economic recess and down turn as well as the chiefest being the increasing insecurity challenges currently bedevilling the country.

He however stressed that the 45th years journey of the organization,God has giving the management and Staff of the organization the Grace for His work ,in partnership with churches and other selfless and dedicated members like yourselves to see that God’s words get to everyone in their heart languages.

Lalong Orders Immediate Arrest Of Criminals Behind Recent Killings In Jos South, And Riyom LG

Governor Bako Lalong of Plateau State has directed security agencies to go after criminals behind recent isolated killings in Jos South and Riyom Local Government Areas in the

state.

Governor Lalong who expressed outrage over the incidences recorded in Chol, Vwang District of Jos South; and Tamborong, Ganawuri District in Riyom Local Government Areas, said the recurring incidences of such isolated attacks are unacceptable and totally

condemnable.

He said such occurrences reoccur partly because some of the persons behind such attacks are yet to be arrested and brought to justice. During both attacks in the two areas , lives were lost, animals killed and crops destroyed.

Lalong who said there is no justification for the killings as no one is permitted to take the law into his hands, therefore ordered the security agencies to do everything possible and arrest the perpetrators as well as go to the root of the criminal conduct which is clearly meant to resuscitate violence in the State and thwart the peace currently prevailing.

Lalong said “recently we acquired and launched 50 patrol vehicles and 200 motorcycles for use by our security agencies.

Our expectation is that these attacks will not only be prevented, but wherever any is recorded, the perpetrators will be swiftly arrested and brought to justice. I expect to see a drastic change from now onwards on how we respond to these unfortunate acts. Our people deserve to live in peace and pursue their legitimate means of livelihood without fear of being attacked or killed”.

The Governor urged the citizens to assist the security agencies and relevant Government bodies with the necessary intelligence to enable them arrest the fleeing attackers and also get to the root cause of the recurring incidences.

Meanwhile, the Governor has commended community leaders within the communities where the killings occured for making efforts to calm nerves and also supporting Government efforts to restore normalcy

and build confidence.

He directed the Peace Building Agency and the Plateau Inter-Religous Council to intensify their mediation efforts across the State especially in areas where there are disagreements that are capable of causing a breach of the peace.

The District Governor discribed the Project one of its kind as this will go a long in Solving the issues faced by Students of the School.

According to her Rotary Club is known for its humanitarian services which motivates them to help the less privileged in the Society and as well bring Succour to the people.

According to him aspirants in all the eighteen electoral ward headquarters that made up the local government as early as 8.00am waiting for the arrival of electoral Committee but to no avail .

Supporters and Party faithfuls were Stationed at their Various wards waiting for the Conduct of the primary election but the Committee were no were the Venue.

Godwin Adebayo Ogunlowo (JP): Celebrating a Life Devoted to God and Humanity

His life was remarkable and notable – an ancient landmark that no one can shift. No wonder he chose a very special day to join host of heavens to shout Hallelujah, Hosanna in the Highest to the Lord.

On May 29th 1999, Nigeria got her independence from the shackles of the dictators who had ruled the country most, since the official independence in 1960 from her colonialist who had hitherto ruled the nation since 1914 when the Amalgamation of the Southern and Northern protectorate was completed by no other person than Sir Lord Lugard. It was that day that Nigeria welcomed her 4th Republic; a democratic government was sworn in and referred to as “Democracy Day” until recently.

Death is the end of all mortals – rich or poor. It is a factor that equates everyone. We all fear death. However, we fear death not because we do not know we will die but because we are unable to answer the basic questions of How? When? and Where? One may add, where I am heading to even after death.

The Yoruba’s belief is that there is life after death. In fact, in Yoruba folklore, it is believed that there is incarnation. Both Christianity and Islam believe that there is death and after that, it is judgement. Naturally, we fear death because we do not know how we will die; when we will die, where we will die; and where we will end up after death. This is not so for Venerable Godwin Adebayo Ogunlowo (JP). He knew the how, when, and where.

He was waiting patiently for death to come and when it finally came, he welcomed it with all enthusiasm. He shamed death by looking at it in the eye. He knew it was the passage to eternity.

In the twilight of his ministry and life, Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7 said “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand”. He continued in verse 7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished my race, I have kept the faith”. He also knew when the time of his departure was near and prepared for it. He guided his loins and never loses guard. He did not leave without a goodbye.

According to Dr. Aderonke B. Ajav (Nee Ogunlowo, the popular ‘Beere’, and the Chief of them all according to Baba), “About two weeks after his ninety-first birthday, daddy called as many of us (children and others) as he could to thank and pray for us one by one. He also uttered some sentences that both amused and scared us, for example “Awayemalo ko si, eyin ni ki e se okan giri; (No one lives on in the world forever, brace yourself up for the eventuality). “Laala alagbase tan!” (The task of the labourer is over) “baba ti lo”; (daddy has gone) “aku ara feraku odun ajina si ra”. (We shall miss the departed, may deaths be far and in-between).

He continued, “Tell the eye doctor that I won’t be able to keep his appointment, you will explain why to him when you see him”. According to her, he also said “the greatest guest I am expecting has arrived. I want to celebrate it with Holy Communion, tell Venerable Akinade to come and give me communion at 5pm this evening.” And during the communion, he told the Venerable “you will preach at my Commendation Service”. When I said daddy where are you even going, he said heaven. Are you afraid? He said no”. That was Venerable Ogunlowo – Brave, pious, visionary and heaven-conscious. He knew where he was going while on earth.

She further narrated the scare that the family had after that encounter. She said “About a month after the scare, daddy started requesting to go home saying “take me home so that I can go home. I want to go home, to my house, where my room is, where I sleep. Take me home so that I can go home.” When it was obvious that he meant it, he was finally taken home (Iwo Road) on the 28th of May 2021 at about 9pm. And he went home (Heaven) at about 6am on 29th of May 2021 after singing songs of victory throughout the night.” As requested, The Venerable I.O Akinade truly gave the exhortation during the Commendation Service held at Bishop Akinyele Memorial Anglican Church, Ibadan, Oyo state on Friday, June 18, 2021. Truly he went home!

His wife of many decades, Lady Evangelist Patience Diekola Ogunlowo described him as a “beloved husband, a true friend and a loving and caring companion, a passionate sharer and lover of the word of God.” Hon. (Pharm) Leke Ogunsola said, “he was exemplary character personified.” Mrs. Adenike Omolara Olayiwola (Nee Ogunlowo) described her father as “a prayer warrior, caring, loving and dedicated”. His son, Olufemi said he was “a wonderful father and counselor” who gives “advice and direction”. He described further that his father taught them “contentment and sacrificial” life and that “God is God irrespective of the situation, circumstances, or incidences of life”. He concluded by referring to him as a man of “ceaseless prayers”.

Bishop Akinyele Memorial Anglican Church described him as “a loving, amiable and humble servant of God” who “lived well in his entire in the service of God and humanity”. The Rt. Revd. O.A. Fabuluje, The Diocesan Bishop, Diocese of Oke-Osun, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) said, “The humble servant of God was a strong leader in the Church and a gallant soldier of Christ whose exit will inevitably be felt for a very long time”. He added that “He lived a fruitful, purposeful, and fulfilled life” while admonishing children and relatives “to emulate his exemplary Christian life”.

Venerable Lolu Akinyinka, Vicar, Bishop Odutola Memorial Anglican Church, Ibadan, described Ogunlowo’s ministry as a “Ministry of Reconciliation” while describing him as “a peaceful and easy going person from his days as a Chorister and later Lay Reader at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Yemetu, Ibadan”. Old students of his former school under the aegis of The Old Grammarians’ Society (OGS), C.M.S Grammar School, Lagos (Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti States Branches) in a Tribute letter to the family signed by its Chairman, Professor Oladele O. Kale, called him “Chaplain Emeritus”. He said “The Venerable can be credited to, among other admirable things, with outstanding and reinforcing in our society a remarkable measure of conviviality the like of which, giving his high office in the Church, is a rare personal attribute. He was a true man of God and a devoted and loyal Grammarian”. The tribute for him was almost endless.

Born Godwin Adebayo Ogunlowo (JP), sixteen years after Nigeria Amalgamation on 10th April, 1930 into the humble family of Chief John Ogunlowo and Madam Abigail Awawu Atowuromola Ogunlowo (both of blessed memory) of Aro omo-jogunle compound, Oluponna, Ayedire Local Government Area of Osun State started his elementary education at the St. Peter’s Anglican School Oluponna in 1938 and gained admission to Ibadan Boys High School in 1945 but crossed to the Remo Secondary School, Sagamu and lastly to C.M.S. Grammar School, Lagos where he obtained his Senior Cambridge (oversea) School Certificate in December 1953.

The young Ogunlowo started work in 1954 at the then Western Region Ministry of Education Ibadan as a Clerical Officer and was posted to the Provincial Education Office in Abeokuta and later to the Planning Office, llaro in Egbado where he along with other officers worked tirelessly to prosecute the free Primary School Education scheme then newly introduced by the then Premier of the Western Region, late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Heeding to his calling, Ogunlowo resigned his appointment in December 1955 to start a Theological course at the Melville Hall, Kudeti, Ibadan. He later abandoned course after spending a term at the Institute due to financial problems. He was re-employed to his former post of Clerical Officer at the Ministry of Education and after a spell, he was sent along with an expatriate officer by name Mr. Boothroyd to a newly established Govt. Trade Centre (Later renamed Technical College) on Awe Road, Oyo in 1962/63.

Ogunlowo was transferred back to the Headquarters Ibadan in 1964. Being a dutiful young man, he rose through the ranks to the highest grade of Chief Executive Officer (Administration) in 1984 after serving meritoriously in almost all the ministries and Parastatals of Government among which was the Governor’s Office.

It was this exemplary service that made him to meritoriously serve four Governors, Military and Civilian namely, Col. Paul Tarfa, Uncle Bola Ige, Dr. Omololu Olunloyo and Col. Oladayo Popoola as Chief Protocol Officer. He was awarded Oyo State Govt. Certificate of Merit in 1990.

He was sent on In-service training to the Institute of Administration, University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) (Topo) Badagry while in service. He successfully completed both courses.

Ogunlowo even in his old age never forgot the call of God upon his life. Before he retired from the service of Oyo State in July, 1991 he once again started a Theological course at the Immanuel College of Theology and Christian Education, Samonda, Ibadan which he successfully completed in 1990.

Before be bowed out from the service of Oyo State, Ven. Ogunlowo was ordained a Deacon in 1989 and later a Priest in 1990. He was installed a Canon Minister. He was on Holy Pilgrimage to Jerusalem in 2004 where he was divinely preferred an Archdeacon. His collation was uniquely performed by the Rt. Rev. Olusola Fasogbon (now retired) at the St. Paul’s Cathedral, Gbongan on 10th April, 2005 (coincidentally on his 75th Birthday Anniversary). What a happy coincidence!

Venerable Ogunlowo was an “Anglican to the Core”. He was a founding member of the Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Oluponna, his hometown. He remained a very loyal, active and financial member till death.

Also, he was one of the founding members of Immanuel Society of Bishop Akinyele Memorial Anglican Church, Iwo road, Ibadan, Oyo state. He remained a very loyal, active and financial member till death.

He was Deaconed at St. Peter’s Anglican Church Aremo, Ibadan (now Cathedral) and as Providence would have it, he was installed as a Canon of the same Church in the year 2000.

Ven. Ogunlowo had a great passion for music and he gleefully sang all parts but has preference for Tenor.

Ogunlowo was happily married to his lovely, dependable and loyal wife Mrs. Patience Diekola Ogunlowo (Nee Bolaji) and the union were blessed with wonderful, God fearing, caring and loving children and adorable grandchildren.

The revered Ven. Ogunlowo passed on to eternal life peacefully and gloriously on 29th May, 2021 while singing victorious hymns and soul lifting choruses with his wife of over fifty-six years.

He was interned at the burial site of The Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan, Oyo state on Friday, June 18, 2021.

He undoubtedly lived a fulfilled life of humility and contentment of a true servant and child of God serving God and humanity till it pleased his creator to take him home so that he can take a deserved rest in God whom he had served for 91 years.

Gov.Lakong Charges New Bishop Of Lafia On Prayer For Nigeria.

Governor Simon Bako Lalong and his Nasarawa State Counterpart Abdullahi Sule were among thousands of guests that joined the Catholic faithful for the ordination of Most Revd. David Ajang as Bishop of Lafia Diocese.

Governor Lalong who was accompanied by his wife Regina and a high powered delegation from Plateau State comprising of the Speaker of the House of Assembly Abok Nuhu Ayuba, some members of the State Executive Council, Traditional Rulers led by the Gbom Gwom Jos Da Jacob Gyang Buba, and prominent elders said Plateau State was highly delighted by the appointment of Most Rev. David Ajang as a Bishop.

Lalong said “Having worked closely with him as the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel in Jos for the past six years, I can testify about his deep passion for the salvation of the souls of men. Indeed, he has endeared himself to our hearts through his kindness, love for God and humanity. Bishop David Ajang is a man who undertakes his spiritual calling with utmost humility and the fear of God”.

You contributed a lot to the restoration of substantial peace and security in Plateau State by prayers and godly counsel. Please do not relent to offer same to my brother, the Governor of Nasarawa State His Excellency Governor Abdullahi Sule who by the way is another “Jos boy” on

loan to Nasarawa”.

Governor Abdullahi Sule congratulated the new Bishop and aasured him of the support and collaboration of the Government and people of Plateau State whom he said are looking forward to a wonderful experience during his tenure.

Sule said the State will benefit from his experience and knowledge, having left a good legacy in Plateau State where he held several positions in the Church including Chaplain, Government House Chapel Jos before his appointment as Bishop.

He also called on religious leaders to pray for the nation and give good counsel to help those in position of leadership to serve the country dispassionately.

Papal Nuncio, Most Revd. Antonio Fillipazzi performed the ordination in line with the tradition and protocols of the Catholic Church.

Arch Bishop of Jos, Mathew Ishaya Audu who is the immediate past Bishop of Lafia addressed the congregation for the last time and appreciated them for their support and players during his term as Bishop. He asked them to extend same to the new Bishop.

Plateau State Governor and Chairman of the Northern States Governor’s Forum, Simon Bako Lalong has congratulated the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila on his 59th birthday.

Governor Lalong felicitation message is concerned in a press statement dated 25th June,2021, signed by the Director of press and Public Affairs to the Governor Mackut Macham and made available to this medium in Jos,plateau state.

Governor Lalong described the Speaker as a patriotic and dispassionate Nigerian who believes in the unity, peace and progress of the nation.

Lalong said Gbajabiamila has demonstrated that he is a true democrat who believes in the rule of law, freedom of expression, human rights, independence of all arms of Government and their synergy in service delivery.

Governor Lalong said the Speaker has contributed immensely to the growth of democracy and in particular that of the legislature having been actively involved in the politics over a long period of time.

While wishing him many more years of peace, God’s protection and guidance, Lalong urged the Speaker to continue to give the 9th House of Representatives the desired leadership that will enable it enact appropriate laws for the good governance of the nation and conduct of oversight functions.

Ahead forthcoming local government elections in plateau state,the Acting Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state Hon.Fanmak Enoch Ramnan has urged the citizens to vote for the Party’s candidates in all the 17 Local Government.

This is to reseprocate the good governance the Lalong administration has offered the plateau citizens in the area of infrastructure,and restoration of Peace to the state.

The Acting Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state Stated this in an interview with Our reporter at the party’s Secretariat along Bukuru road in jos-South LG of plateau state.

Hon. Fanmak said looking at the achievement of Governor Lalong as the governor of the state in the area of infrastructural development ,the only way the people of the state is to reseprocate the government good gesture, is for them to cast their vote for APC in the forthcoming local government local government elections.

You know the insecurity in the state before the coming of the APC administration compare to what it’s now, you will discover that there is huge difference than when this administration came on board all thanks to the APC under the able leadership of Rt.Hon.Bako

He stressed that of recent the state government launded 50 Patrol Vans and 200 motorcycles to assist the police to combat crime and criminality in the state ,and to boost security in the state and it’s environ.

Hon.Fanmak Ramnan said the party is now at the level of screening it’s aspirants both the chairmanship and counselorship position .

However reassured that the party will sweep the whole chairmanship and counselorship position in all the locals government in the state.

On his challenges Since assuming office as the Acting Chairman barely two weeks ago, he said I am not facing any challenges because I was the deputy chairman of the party,so the work of chairman is not new to me because I have master most of the works in the chairman’s office.

He however called on the people of the state to support APC in the forthcoming Local Government Election to reseprocate the good work the APC Government under the leadership of Lalong have done.

It will be recalled that the APC in the state suspended it’s chairman Latep Dabam for alleged anti-party activities and corruption.

Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Alkali Baba on Monday 21st June 2021 joined Governor Simon Bako Lalong at the premises of the New Government House in Rayfield Jos to inaugurate 50 new patrol vehicles and 200 security motorcycles procured by the Government of Plateau State.

Governor Lalong described the event as a momentous occasion that is aimed at boosting the capacity of security agencies in the State towards tackling criminal activities and resurging attacks on innocent citizens.

He said “to a very large extent and without sounding immodest, we have made giant strides in restoring peace in Plateau State by bringing down the level of insecurity and restoring confidence of the citizens as well as attracting investors, visitors and tourists who continue to troop into the State in large numbers.

However, we have also realised that while we consolidate on the peace, the crises merchants are not sleeping as their source of business has been obstructed due to the actions we have put in place to restore stability. Therefore, they are restless and trying various methods to breach the peace.”

Lalong said these criminals have in recent times resorted to isolated attacks in various communities which are carried out in a hit-and-run fashion. In the last two years, such cases were recorded in Kulben, Mangu LGA; Kwatas in Bokkos LGA; Foron in Barkin Ladi LGA; Kwall in Bassa LGA; and recently in Dong in Jos North and Kwi in Riyom LGA among others. While some of the perpetrators have been arrested, others are still at large.

While commending the security agencies for doing their best to tackle such attacks and other criminal activities, he expressed deep concern over the inability to prevent isolated killings or arrest the perpetrators in some cases. He told the police and other security agencies that he does not want to hear unknown gunmen again in Plateau State .

Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Alkali Baba in a remark commended Governor Lalong for his efforts at restoring peace and security in Plateau State and also consolidating it with the acquisition of vehicles and providing other logistic requirements for the police and other security agencies.

He assured that more police personnel will soon be recruited to boost the manpower of the force while the training of the personnel is also being accorded serious attention.

Gbong Gwom Jos Da Jacob Gyang Buba appreciated Governor Lalong for his continued support to security agencies, assuring that the traditional rulers will always give maximum support to all security agencies by mobilising their subjects to gather intelligence.

Over 3,000 Plateau State Joint Civilian Operatives personel were unveiled by the Governor. The IGP also advised them to be involved in intelligence gathering and also pass the same to the security agencies.
