In the past six years, Plateau State under the leadership of Governor Simon Bako Lalong who clocks 58 today has been enthralled by purposeful driven governance, developmental projects under a serene and placid atmosphere. In all ramifications, his 58th birthday is a worthy and fulfilled milestone which should be commemorated with pomp and wide jubilations.

The reasons are instructive and obvious. For more than two decades in politics, Lalong has been playing active roles in the development of Plateau State. His stint in politics right from 1999 when he was elected into the Plateau State House of Assembly and later became the longest serving speaker in the State, up to 2015 when he was elected the Governor, have been trailed by amazing footprints and legacies.

Governor Lalong exudes uncommon attributes and leadership skills which include humility, discipline, forthrightness and tolerance. He abhors bigotry under any guise. His passion for peace has even been misunderstood by some as a weakness whlie the discerning praise him as a bridge builder and Apostle of peace. He took over Plateau State in 2015 when there were religious and ethnic tensions especially in Jos as a result of ethno-religious crises. But today as a result of his non-partisan and forthright approach to issues, the tension and apprehension has since been diffused and many of the old barriers dismantled.

To tame the orgy of violence inherited, Governor Lalong established Plateau Peace Building Agency to promote the culture of dialogue, forgiveness and conflict prevention that has gingered peace and harmonious coexistence among the diverse ethno-religious groups in the state. Presently, there is clear evidence that the situation has improved tremendously over the last five years with better community relations and less tension and fear. Plateau State is again the melting pot of Nigeria and the Home of Peace and Tourism.

It is strongly believed that at 58, Lalong’s leadership skills have similarities with those of the global acclaimed visionary leaders such as Nelson Madela who strongly believed in peace as a tool for development. Lalong has been exploring all plausible avenues to consolidate on the prevailing peace. Apart from supporting security agencies, Operation Rainbow, a hybrid force established by the state government was strengthened by his administration with a clear mandate for intelligence gathering and response to pave the way for community policing.

The Governor’s regular consultation with stakeholders in the state including members of the State House of Assembly has led to many positive developments. For instance, the passing of the anti-land grabbing law which criminalises forceful occupation of land by some unscrupulous elements, has since stemmed the tide of land grabbing in the state especially in the Northern zone of Plateau State.

To some people, an ideal leader looks like a superhero –strong and brimming with confidence. But humility holds greater power, albeit silently. Studies on humility in leadership have posited that humble leaders make the best leaders and easily disarm even their opponents. One of the virtues you cannot take away from Governor Lalong is humility. In spite of his position, his sense of humility is not only attractive but infectious. He treats everyone with respect regardless of their position, role or title, making him a quintessential leader who gives his all to a course he believes in.

The Governor has continued to demonstrate his affection for his people, task after task, no matter the cost. In spite of the economic crunch in the country, his administration since coming on board decided to complete all the abandoned projects inherited from his predecessors. Governor Lalong equally initiated and completed many projects with others still ongoing such as the mega projects dubbed “Lalong Legacy Project” which are mostly in health and educational sectors in the 17 local government areas of the state.

The Governor recently assured of completing the projects when he said “Having inherited quite a number of abandoned project and completed many of them, I don’t intend to leave any project uncompleted. The legacy projects will be completed before the end of my tenure God willing.”

Governor Lalong’s Rescue Mission is fundamentally about service and fairness in distribution of scarce resources and development projects across the three geo-political zones of the State. Above all, his cognate experience and exposure as the longest serving Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly; Chairman, Conference of Speakers Executive; Lawyer and Activist; Community Development Specialist among others prepared him for governance early.

To set his administration apart from the previous ones, the 1990 law graduate of the prestigious Ahmadu Bell University Zaria created an ICT Agency christened “Plateau Information and Communication Technology Development Agency” PICTDA. He recently declared thus: “Our goal is that before we leave office, we would like to have most, if not all our governance processes driven by information and Communication technologies”.

The prevailing industrial harmony on the Plateau is as a result of cordial relationship with the state civil servants. In the past six years, workers have been receiving their entitlements as and when due. When it comes to payment of salaries, pension, gratuity and other emoluments, Governor Lalong stands out nationwide. This has earned him the indelible name of “Governor Alert” bestowed on him by no other than the state civil servants. The Governor recently told the civil servants that his administration was working towards acquiring land in all local government areas of the state to build affordable housing for them.

The vision of the governor to transform Plateau State into an industrial hub is manifested in the high number of MoUs his administration signed with both local and foreign partners to resuscitate moribund government owned industries such Jos International Brewery, BARC Farms, Highland bottling Company among other which have been lying comatose for a very long time.

Another main thrust of Governor Lalong’s administration is the provision of qualitative education for its citizenry. In the tertiary section, he injected life into the State owned University, Plateau State University Bokkos which was gasping for breath before his election as the governor of the State due to sheer neglect and reckless abandonment driven by politics. Apart from this, other tertiary institutions such Plateau State Polytechnic, College of Education Gindiri among other were also given a new lease of life.

It comes as no surprise that in the course of his service and purposeful leadership over the years, his colleagues in the 19 Northern States unanimously elected him to be their Chairman. Since his election, Lalong has been providing purposeful leadership, championing the cause of the North and intervening in critical national issues. Apart from this, Lalong had won several laurels, received commendations and got a pat on the back for excellent performance both at home and abroad.

Speakers at a launch of a book on Disaster and Conflict in Abuja recently showered accolades on Governor Lalong for his peace efforts that have restored confidence and mitigated human disasters associated with violence and conflicts in Plateau State. The Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Special Duties Senator George Akume at the occasion said Governor Lalong has proven to be one of the few examples of leaders in Nigeria who can be relied upon to galvanise people to live in peace and harmony in spite of their diversity and differences of faith, ethnic and political differences.

While felicitating with the governor on the occasion of his 58th birthday and wishing him many more years of selfless service to Nigeria and humanity, it goes without saying that this humble visionary achiever, peace Ambassador, dependable ally, compassionate personality and fearless intercessor is set for greater impact in Nigeria in the years ahead. For remaining steadfast and relentless in the pursuit of happiness for the entire people of Plateau State and the Northern region, he has demonstrated his love for country and capacity to devote his life for a better Nigeria.

As you deservedly celebrate this glorious day, may God Almighty who has richly prospered you and ordered your every step in this past half century, continue to bless you with good health, wisdome and knowledge to serve and fulfill the purpose for which you were created.

In peacemaking, truth telling and truth seeking are honored, integrity is valued, and trust is given because it is earned, and is a refuge, a safe haven from the incivility and nastiness of conflict.

And so Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State clock 58 years on May 5, Lalong’s modesty, nature and humility keeps him away from hugging the limelight unlike his more aggressive and socially astute contemporaries.

Governor Lalong has been tirelessly interfacing with relevant individuals, groups and institutions towards restoring the legacies of the founding fathers of the North particularly the legacies of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto.

Governor Lalong chairs the meeting of Northern Governors Forum in Kaduna. The election of Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State by his colleagues to succeed the former Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, to chair the Nigerian Northern States Governors Forum, did not come to many as a surprise.

This is because he has demonstrated leadership that is forward looking and seeks to unite people and resolve conflicts while pursuing development.

His strides in Plateau state that saw the restoration of peace and accelerated development provided a very good example for the entire Northern States to put their trust in him to lead them.

He has liaised seamlessly with President Muhammadu Buhari and other institutions of the Federal Government in pushing the interests of the Northern Region and spearheaded the development of new blueprint for economic revival of the Northern Region.

As Chairman Northern State’s Governors Forum, he has pushed for adoption of community policing by the Northern States, he also spearheaded the adoption and implementation of the National Livestock Transformation Programme by the Federal Government and Northern states.

Simon Lalong coordinated the Response of the Northern States in the fight against COVID-19, lobbied for the payment of entitlements of employees of New Nigerian Newspapers and mediated in many disputes between various interests and groups in the North, he also facilitated timely intervention and reconciliation among parties on national issues towards restoring confidence and understanding and spearheaded the final return of Almajiri children to their states of origin.

Gov. Lalong, through the Northern Governors Forum, further assures Nigerians of all ethnic, religious and political persuasions of their constitutional rights to pursue their legitimate businesses wherever they choose within the region and appeal to the people to resist any attempt to lure them into any act that can threaten the peace and tranquility of the region and the nation at large.

He has incessantly called on citizens to shun and jettison divisive polices, rhetoric and body language so as to ensure sustainable peace in the country.

For the record, Simon Lalong temporarily suspended legal practice to join the political bandwagon in 1998. Under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he successfully contested the seat of the member of the Plateau State House of Assembly representing his native Shendam Constituency.

In October 2000, he became the speaker of the assembly, occupying that position till the year 2006, following a political storm within the House. The seven years he served as the Speaker of that assembly made him the longest serving speaker of the House in the history of Plateau State. During that period he was two times (2001–2002) elected as the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of the 36 states of Nigeria. In the year 2015, as the second tenure of the serving Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, neared its end, Lalong joined the contest to succeed Jang.

This time, he did so under the All Progressive Congress (APC) political platform. His chances seemed narrow at the beginning, but the capricious nature of politics tipped the balance eventually, favoring him by a slim margin. He was sworn in as the new Governor of Plateau State on May 29, 2015. He was re-elected as the Governor of Plateau State on May 29, 2019.

His swearing in 2015 as the 5th Executive Governor of Plateau State ushered in a new vista of hope and expectations considering the state of affairs in Plateau at that time.

With a genuine need to change the narrative he remains one of those few modest Nigerian personalities quietly serving his country well and without fuss, in a country where the commonest rhetorical question revolves around self-recognition and self-propagation.

In his first term, the Governor’s Rescue Mission operated under a 5-Pillar Policy Thrust, namely: Peace, Security and Good Governance; Human Capital Development and Social Welfare; Agriculture and Rural Development; Entrepreneurship and Industrialization; and Physical Infrastructure and Environment.

After re-election in 2019, he streamlined the vision to Peace, Security and Good Governance; Infrastructural Development; and Sustainable Economic Rebirth.

Venturing into partisan politics despite his enormous successes in profession and businesses had been largely informed by the desire to turn things around for his people.

In 2019, the people of Plateau State were impressed with the first term performance and genuine efforts of the Lalong administration that they decided to overwhelmingly take the Rescue Mission to the Next Level by giving the Governor and his Deputy, another four years.

Notwithstanding the fact that the Lalong administration inherited so many problems and amidst limited resources, high expectations and competing demands, the government settled down for business under the purposeful leadership of Governor Lalong.

Lalong believes and sees politics as call to serve and not to be served.

He has a strong view that power should be used for the transformation of the society and development of the people. His view for seeking power is consistent and relentless search for transformational ideas and policies that will transform the lives of the people.

He has touched the lives of his people positively by bringing to them the dividends of democracy.

A man who always thinks much about Nigeria and less of self, Simon Lalong tries as much as possible to impact his wealth, both physical and human, to touch lives. He has used all means available to him to help the needy, the State and the country at large. He does not discriminate based on religion, sex or tribe.

A bridge builder and a grass root politician who has the capacity to build consensus in the political process and is viewed as a charismatic and strategic leader.

No matter what detractors may want to say, Lalong is a gentleman to the core. His love for the masses is extraordinary, for he is a noble, detribalized and humane Nigerian who worked endlessly for the transition to democracy.

Little wonder other opinions have described him as a behemoth bestriding the political landscape of Nigeria like a colossus.

If within this short time as Governor he has etched indelible imprints in the sands of time to the admiration of his legion of fans and supporters, and become a voice to be reckoned with, then we can rest assured that the future would be greater.

Lalong is convinced that service and passionate desire to positively affect lives are also party of the motivating factors for him joining politics.

Love him or hate him, Simon Lalong has no doubt added colour and sophistication to the celebration of people of quality, achievement, distinction and honour.

Thus, without an iota of doubt, we call on Nigerians to continue to pray for the leaders like Gov. Simon Lalong as they tackle the various challenges facing the nation.

mah Literary Contest, Prof Ijeoma Ayuba Seeks Support From Local, International Body.

The Umah Literary Contest for Secondary Schools in Nigeria is a baby of the visioner and promoter Prof. Ijeoma Georgiana Umahi Ayuba has solicited the support from international and local bodies to improve reading culture in Nigeria .

This was contained in a press statement made available to journalists in Jos, Plateau state, says the contest aims at promoting reading culture, to test student’s ability to comprehend and recall reading material.

Prof Ayuba stressed that the contest helps to build student’s fluid and crystallized intelligence which ordinarily differs in terms of speed and space with normal class reading activity.

She disclosed that the result of this exercise will in the long run improve the reading culture in the youths and boost the understanding of their environment and the national economy.

According to her, the book distribution is free to encourage total participation and develop their national wide interest in the contest .

Prof .Ijeoma revealed that in view of the logistics challenge to cover nook and cranny of the Nigerian space, there is urgent need to support the vision bearer to sustain the reading culture project.

Prof. Ijeoma Georgiana Umahi Ayuba called on the Federal, State, Local Government, internal community, philanthropists, cooperate bodies, spirited individuals and other stakeholders to assist with funds to take care of logistics and produce more reading materials.

NULGE In Dagger Drawn With ALGON To Return LGA Workers To Their Various LGs

The attention of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) ,Plateau State Chapter has been drawn to allegation of returning them

back to their respective Local Government areas of origin .

In a statement signed by the publicity Secretary of NULGE Plateau state chapter, Aminchi Joshua in Jos ,says NULGE would resist any attempt to localized the affairs of LGAs to their own local government .

He said the grand plan by the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) misleading the Executive Governor of Plateau State ,Governor Simon Lalong to approve their plot won’t scale through as no worker can be return to Local Government .

Joshua says, this chase orchestrated by ALGON is consider as a mirage and a violation of statutory provisions of LGA constitution ,is also a deliberate ploy aimed at denting the reputable of His Excellency the Governor of Plateau State Rt. Hon Simon Lalong before civil servants in the state .

NULGE applauded Lalong as season lawyer, whose administration since inception has promoted and anchored his five pillars policy while coming on board his unrelenting pursuit of lasting peace and social integration as a cardinal tool for entrenching democracy in the state.

This orchestrated sinister scheme by ALGON which is at variance with the subsisting Local Government Service Commission Edict of 1986 which became operational since 27th Nov,1986 and has in its fifth schedule (1) provided thus; The Commission shall have powers without prejudice to the powers vested in the Military Governor-To appoint, confirm, promote, transfer services, or second persons to offices in the Unified Local Government Service.

The efficacy of the legal instrument establishing the Local Government Services Commission and its functions is further buttressed and also in tandem with the provisions of the local government administration and bye claws in Nigeria, where in Chapter II, with heading professionalized local government service.

Youths under the aegis of Christian Youths In Politics Initiatives Plateau state chapter has showered accolades on the member representing Jos North West in the state House of Assembly Hon.Esther Dusu.

As her performance so far within the shortest period she come on board as member ,she has cleared our doubt that in politics what man can do , woman can do it even better with the right conducive atmosphere.

The Chairman Christian Youths In Politics Initiatives , plateau state Sam Chris stated this in an interview with journalists in Jos, Plateau state.

Sam Chris who is very passionate in the interview Condemned the discrimination against women on the ground of gender,as people have these erroneous believe that any woman who participate in the rough water of politics,is a prostitute.

The Chairman said as the Youths in politics initiative he want to use this medium to correct that erroneous believe as women is very instrumental as far as politics is concerned.

Sam Chris further add that its against this background that I will love to make some remarks on the member representing Jos North West Constituency in the Plateau state House of Assembly Hon Esther Dusu.

“Personally , initially I campaign against her,even some people even went to tell her that I hate her person, while in most instance we have personal confrontation which ever draw her closed to tears.”

“As time goes on ,I started to notice that among the numerous representatives in the area , she stands out to be the best , today everybody is proud of her achievements within the shortest time in the House of Assembly.”

The Chairman stressed that before the honorable member came on board the clinic at Garuba Daho was almost at the point of been write off.lmmedately she came on board she swung Into action renovated the clinic to the suprise of all.

He further added that aside the renovation of Garuba Daho Clinic,she also renovated the Vandapuye clinic,and practically rebuild the Kabong hospital which is today more or less new hospital because apart from the renovation,it’s also equipped with modern hospital equipment.

On the area of electricity, according to the Chairman,Dong community that had been without electricity for quite awhile because of lack of transformer,was provided with one , presently the Community is presently enjoying steady power supply .

The Mado Village is almost severed from the other community as a result of the deplorable bridge linking the community, within the short period this woman who can be best describe as silent achiever brought the bridge to live.

Recently he has empowered not fewer than fifty women in her Constituency because as a mother and woman,she knows what the woman folks are going through particularly those With little or no assistance.

Other projects of the Hon.member House of Assembly in the state, Esther Dusu includes,the on going road construction along Jenta Adamu, which is said may not be directly involved,but she can indirectly involved.

Because the area is always face with acute water supply during the dry season, every dry season, she ensure she provide water to every household to ammerorate the hardship of the people of the area.

Sam Chris said with the achievements of the Hon. Member within the shortest time is a pointer that what a man can do, woman can do better,and called on those religating the women based on gender,charged all to have change of heart towards women in politics.

On the reasons for the formation of the organization,the chairman said over the years,the christians Youths has regards politics as a taboo as they viewed it as sacrilege .

He however said before 90s the Youths does not participate in politics , even when they want to,the pastors will discourage them because they believed that the bible frawn at it.

“Now we have learned a lot about the bible to know that if you are a Christian,you are born to rule,dominate and have dominion,we also realized that the bible make it clear that when the righteous rules , people rejoice,and when the wicked rules,the people perish.”

“The only way that will make the righteous rule is for christians to come out during election and cast their vote to the political party and candidate of their choice, this informed our participation in this election “.

He said the reason for the choice of the name is that, our Muslims brothers have a way of learning politics from childhood.

“They understand the intricacies, right from the traditional , religious they where educated about the advantages of voting”.

This statement was made by the Chairman Civil Service Union Plateau state chapter , Comrade Timothy Dachun in an interview with journalists at the union Secretariat in Jos plateau state, during the workers day celebration.

The chairman said the Governor has made a lot of commitment with the workers in the state since he assumed office over Four Years ago among which are the timely payment of the workers salaries, arrears of gratuities and pension.

He said the speech of the Governor was collaborated by the state Head of Service in the state, Sunday Hyat,and we have faith in him and is the chairman of joint Committee on negotiation set up by the Government to negotiate on behalf the Government.and the Government had directed the parties involved to return to the negotiation table next week.

Comrade Timothy said he totally agreed with the achievement the Governor reeled our in the course of his speech.

We should give the Governor that feat of achievements since he come on board ,he is labour friendly Governor ,and prompt payment of workers salaries.

Sequel to the insecurities in the country without remedy in sight,and students has now become an endangered species right inside campuses, the management of university of Jos has announced the immediate closure of its hostels to students.

The closure of the hostels is contained in a press statement dated 30th April,2021 signed by then Deputy Registrar information and publication of the institution Abdullahi Abdullahi and made available to this medium in Jos,plateau state capital.

He said the Management of the University of Jos has directed that all Hostels in the University should be closed.

This follows an emergency meeting Management held with the University’s Dean of Students Affairs, Chief Security Officer, President, Students Union Government (SUG), Speaker of Parliament and External Security Agencies on Friday, April 30th, 2021. The meeting deliberated on a Security Report regarding security threat to the University Staff, Students and properties. As a result of this, soft targets like the Hostels are in great danger.

In the light of the above, the Hostels are to be closed with immediate effect. This is in the interest of the safety of students until all security measures have been perfected to protect the campuses as well as the Hostels.

However, all examinations are to continue unhindered.

Members of the University Community are to note and strictly comply with this Directive.

Mr Wallingko said the state budget break down which is carried every year have been over taken by an event largely due to logistics problems which supposed to have been done immediately after the budget was signed Into law by His Excellency Simon Bako Lalong.

The commissioner stressed that as a result of time elapsed,we felt that the citizens of the state have already aware of the budget ,so there is no need to embark on another budget break down.

Wallingko add that this year Citizens Engagement in Budget Process with stakeholders is very encouraging which is an indication that the citizens are now aware of their responsibilities.

Governors under the auspacies of Northern Governors Forum says it is distressed with the killing of three of the students recently abducted at the Greenfield University, Kaduna State by their kidnappers.

The Chairman of the Forum who doubled as the Governor of Plateau State Simon Bako Lalong while reacting to the incident, described the murder of the young innocent students as shocking, barbaric and condemnable.

The reactions of the forum which is contained in a press release dated 24th April,2021, signed by Director and Press Affairs to the chairman of the Forum Mackut Mancham and made available to journalists in Jos,Plateau State capital.

Lalong said there is no justification for the kidnap and murder of the innocent students who were simply in school to study and prepare themselves for service to the nation.

This action according to the chairman is an act of sheer wickedness that must not be allowed to go unpunished.

He said the Northern Governors have continued to engage the Federal Government and security agencies towards a lasting solution to this menace of kidnapping and other criminal activities particularly in schools which has great implications for the future of education in the region and the nation at large.

Lalong said the recent meeting of the Forum with President Muhammadu Buhari and Service Chiefs was to further consolidate on measures towards addressing the security challenges of the region and the nation as a whole.

While commiserating with the families of the murdered students, the Governors called for the immediate and unconditional release of the other students still under captivity.

Meanwhile, the Forum has commiserated with the Government and people of Kano State over the demise of the mother of Emirs of Kano and Bichi, Hajiya Maryam Ado Bayero.

They described her as a loving, humble and exemplary mother that devoted her life to inculcating positive values to the younger generation and also promoting peaceful coexistence and tolerance among people of different persuasions.

Governor Simon Bako Lalong has sworn in the Management Committee Chairman of Jos South Local Government, Mr. Gideon Dung Davou Dandereng with a charge for him to carry everyone along and be fair to all.

Governor Lalong advised Mr. Dandereng who is coming onto the job for the second time to discharge his duties with diligence saying he was chosen for his track record of people oriented service and not because of any godfather.

He said “You should therefore see this appointment as a call to duty and not an appointment to enrich yourself or pursue other selfish interest. Your focus must be on the people always. We expect you to follow all laid down guidelines in the management of resources of the Local Government. Do not allow anyone deceive you that this is your time to accumulate wealth”.

The Governor urged him to carry everyone along and to be fair to people of all the Local Government irrespective of party, religion, ethnicity or any other affiliations and also pay attention to the issue of security which remains the number one priority of this administration. He advised him to be proactive and use all the structures in place to anticipate and address any security threat.

Lalong said there are plans to conduct elections into all the Local Governments once PLASIEC is ready. However, he said his administration will not allow any breach of peace in the quest for elections, urging all stakeholders to continue to work towards sustainable peace in the State.

Sylvester Wallingko Urges Stakeholders In Budget Process To Strengthen Partnership With Government.

The Commissioner of Budget and and economic planning Mr. Sylvester Wallingko has called on participants at the stakeholders in the budgeting process to strengthen partnership with government in the implementation and execution of projects.

The commissioner made this call during the town hall meeting on citizenship engagement in the budgeting process for North and Central zone held at Azi Nyako youth centre Jos.

He expressed joy with the turn up of participants at the interface, saying the rationale behind the Town Hall Meeting is to strengthen transparency, accountability and sustainability of Government Programmes as well as to gain Government confidence in implementation.

“It’s also worthy of note that Plateau citizens have become focal point of Government’s Budgetary policy, hence the need for involvement of the citizens af this preparatory stage.

“As Citizens, you are expected to own the budget as you are part and parcel of the budget process through your valuable inputs.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, it is important today to inform all stakeholders that the 2022 budgeting process has commenced with the collection of proposals from Citizens of the state, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).”

This process is expected to end very soon for the Draft Budget document (6 transit to the legislature in good time.

The projects and programmes encapsulated in the proposal will be in line with the 3-Pilar Policy thrust of our amiable Governor RT. Hon. Barr. Simon Bako Lalong, our Rescue Team Leader, which are: Peace, Security and Good Governance, Physical infrastrnectaral Development and Sustamable Economic Re-Birth.

“Your inputs at this meeting would be tailored towards supporting the above policies. All proposals should also be in tune with the State Developnient Strategy which aims at improving our Internal Generated Revenue (IGR).”

“So far, the State Goverment would continue to work on the on-going projects inherited from the fast Administration where most of which have been completed while a few would soon be completed. In an effort to provide more infrastructure to citizens of the state, the 16 new roads awarded covering the 17 Local Government Areas of the state in 2020, are currently ongoing projects. which are still receiving funding. All these is being achieved despite the lean financial resources of the state.”

“Today, the world over, economy is faced with the global challenge off Corona Virus (COVID-19 PANDEMIC) the scorch of climate change. This is a must-win battle if mankind must continue to live. I therefore call on all of us to join, support and observe various Government’s guidelines/orders.”

“For the sake of emphasis, I wish to reiterate that the Nations of the world have lost colossal resources as a result of the change in climate to pandemic, Nigeria’s economy and that of Plateau State have been thoroughly affected by change in climate and the pandemic. We must put our heads together to think of ways to overcome the negative changes in climate and the dreaded disease —prayer is key.”

A University Don ,Prof. Ijeoma Georgiana Umahi Ayuba has made a clarion call on Federal, State, local government and non governmental organization including spirited individuals, philantropists and other Stakeholders to come to the organization’s rescue with funds to actualise the dream of the organization as we produce more learning materials for students use in both public and private schools to improve and sustain reading culture, fluid and crystallized intelligence. Prof Ayuba Ijeoma disclosed that she has spent so much in producing learning materials out of her personal savings and salary every month to safeguard the vulnerable children roaming the streets .

However, her pleads for urgent call from federal, states and international communities to come to the organizations desire of meeting up with the acquisition of learning materials should not fall on deaf ears.

In an interview with the media Prof. Ijeoma, an academic of international repute, reveals the lacuna already existing owning to lack of reading culture, hence her clarion call for support to cover the existing gap.

According to her. Four out of ten primary school graduates lack basic proficiency in

reading and appreciating even mathematics.

Prof Ijeoma Ayuba said the data demonstrates unequiv-

She pointed out that it is good to see the need for grant support continues to favor countries affected by conflict and fragility and that we spend more on improving learning and reading culture .

Prof Ayuba solicited the exceptional needs that remain unmet: in closing the opportunity gap between rich and poor, urban and rural, and boys and girls, and the equitable deployment of trained teachers.

She explained further that at the same time, far too many children still do not have the opportunity to benefit

from equal education so the published and distributed textbooks Worth millions and running short of finance to reach out to vulnerable children in rural schools .

Governor Simon Bako Lalong has been commended for his peace efforts that have restored confidence and mitigated human disasters associated with violence and conflicts in Plateau State.

Speakers at the launch of a book on Disaster and Conflict in Abuja described the Governor as a peacemaker who has become a shining example for de-escalating violence and creating sustainable platform for mutual understanding and dialogue.

The Book facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Intergovernmental Affairs and Special Duties examined the challenges of disasters that are generated from conflicts in Nigeria and how to mitigate them.

Minister for Intergovernmental Affairs and Special Duties Sen. George Akume said Nigerians need to continue to foster peaceful coexistence as a way of preventing disasters that end up hurting development. He said Governor Lalong has proven to be one of the examples of leaders who can be relied upon to galvanise people to do the right thing by embracing one another.

Former Deputy Senate President Nasiru Mantu also said the search for peace in Nigeria cannot succeed without people respecting one another and realising that God is the creator of all while differences in tribe, religion, geography and even orientations are matters that cannot be blamed on humanity as people never chose where to be born or the families to be born in.

He said this is why people must be able to accept one another as human beings and stop fighting. He said Governor Lalong has been able to achieve this by enabling people of various backgrounds to have a sense of belonging which has doused tensions and made peace possible in Plateau State.

Governor Lalong who praised the author of the book for conducting the research said peace remains his cardinal objective and as such, he will not relent in making sure that people work together to engender good relations.

He urged all Nigerians to support peaceful coexistence as conflicts do not only cause disasters, but leave a huge burden on development.

The plateau state Southern Senatorial Bye Election Tribunal involving professor Nora Dadu’ut of All Progressive Congress (APC)and that of the opposition Party, People Democratic Party (PDP) George Edward Daika has closed their cases today 19th April,2021,and set date for final written addresses.

Parties involved in the petition filed by Hon. George Edwards Daika, PDP against INEC, Nora Daduut and the APC in the National and State Assemblies Election Petition Tribunal currently sitting at Dadin Kowa Youth Centre Jos , following Jusun’s ongoing strike which disallowed the tribunal using their facilities have all closed their cases on Monday, 19 April 2021.

With the closure of their cases by the parties involved,the next line of action is the adoption of Final Written Addresses by parties.

However, in line with the election tribunal process,the 1st,2nd and 3rd respondent who did not call any witness were given maximum of Ten days each starting from 19th April,2021 ,to filed their final written addresses.

While the petitioner (PDP)who called F

ifteen witnesses is given maximum of Seven days to file it final written address.

The tribunal has been adjourned till next month for the adoption of final addresses.

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, says it will hold a nationwide peaceful protest on April 19 to further push home its demand for financial autonomy for the judiciary. This threat contained in a circular obtained by newsmen) in Lagos, dated April 16 and signed by the Deputy Secretary of the Union, P. Nnamani. NAN reports that JUSUN on April 6, commenced a nationwide industrial action, calling for implementation of financial autonomy for the judiciary. While restating that the strike would continue following failure by government to meet its demands, the union urged its members to remain resolute in spite of pressures. The circular read in part: “Further be informed that following an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of JUSUN on the April 15, 2021, “it is agreed that the union will organise a peaceful protest in the Federal Capital, which will be replicated in the 36 state Capitals in furtherance of our agitations, from April 19, 2021. “Please note that if in case there are any invitations for negotiations/talks, you should promptly inform the National Headquarters for guidelines and representations to avoid disorder in presentation of facts.” NAN

Sir Ari who is also member of the knights of Saint Mullumba (KSM)and a classmate of the celebrant way back at the Seminary, said for the short period of time the New Archbishop has spend in plateau state we seen him going for his pastoral visitation and I have the cause to listen to his preaching during those visitations.

He further add that he was privilege to be with him at the celebration of Divine Mercy, and l heard all his teaching which centered on the need for us to disregard materialism and embraced that which is heavenly mission .

Ari stressed that his expectations for the Archbishop of Jos His Grace Mathew Ishaya Audu, although he has stepped Into the spiritual big shoes of his precedessor Archbishop lgnatius Kaigama but will realised the Spiritual Shoes fitted him perfectly.

The (ITF) Director General and the classmate of the New Archbishop lshaya Audu said my expectations for him is that the jos diocese will continue to grow from strength to strengthen under Archbishop Audu as the people will have sense of belonging and draw closer to God because he has come at a critical time when religion has been relegated to background.

Conference Of Speakers Meet Gov.Lalong On Autonomy

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has assured the leadership of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly of the commitment of all Governors towards achieving autonomy for the legislative and judicial arms of government.

Governor Lalong who received a delegation led by the Chairman, Conference of Speakers, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Suleiman said the issue of autonomy will soon be put to rest with the final engagements between all stakeholders holding soon.

He used the opportunity to clarify that autonomy is not just for financial independence, but also for strengthening the legislature and enhancing democratic values. According to him, the implementation of autonomy will require each State to establish the House of Assembly Service Commission which will handle all administrative functions of the legislature and provide proper accountability just as there are civil service commissions and others.

He advised the Speakers to engage other parties as well as educate the public on what autonomy is all about because a lot of misconception is creating an impression that members of the legislature stand to gain financially rather than be better supported to serve the people.

On tackling insecurity, Lalong said the implementation of community Policing is the way to go which will gradually lead to state police when fully implemented.

Chairman, Conference of Speakers Abubakar Suleiman said they were on an advocacy visit to discuss the issue of autonomy and other national matters such as curbing insecurity.

He said the Conference recognises the strategic position of Governor Lalong as former Speaker and Chairman of the body, Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and a strong member of the Nigerian Governors Forum who has been at the centre of discussions towards autonomy.

He assured the Governor that the speakers would continue to work in synergy with the Executive in order to provide good governance and better living standards for the people.

Lalong Directs Contractors To Engage Indigenous Workers

Following an earlier visit to various project sites in the Southern Senatorial Zone of Plateau State by Governor Simon Bako Lalong where he directed contractors to stick to completion schedules and standard of work, the Chief of Staff to the Governor Noel Donjur has paid an unscheduled visit to the area to follow up on the progress of work.

During the visit which took him to road construction project sites in Shendam, the Chief of Staff reiterated the Governor’s stand and further directed contractors handling construction and other projects to engage local Labour and artisans to build capacity and create employment for the youths.

Noel Donjur further enjoined them to patronise local sub-contractors and suppliers in line with the Rescue administration’s mission to provide employment for youths.

The roads inspected include Anguwan Buan, Congo, Shaiyen Street, Shendam by-pass and other internal road networks.

While taking the Chief of Staff on inspection, Engr. Thomas Ojeil of Triacta Nig Ltd promised to abide by the directives as they are committed to delivering the project on time.

Also contributing, Engr. Kevin Golji and Caleb Gotom from the Ministry of Works who were on site supervision also assured the Chief of Staff that they are closely monitoring the work to ensure that it is done according to specification.

The Chief of staff further directed that a schedule of work programme be submitted to the Ministry of Works immediately to facilitate tracking, monitoring of and time evaluation.

Attempted PLASU Students Kidnap ,Governor Lalong Praises Security Forces.

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong is full of praises and admiration to security personnel for their swift response that thwarted the attempted kidnap of four students at the Plateau State University, Bokkos.

Governor Lalong Praises is contained in a press release dated 13th April,2021, signed by the Director of press and Public Affairs to the Governor Mackut Mancham and made available to this medium in Jos.

The attempted kidnap was said to have occurred on Monday night when gunmen stormed the off-campus student residences at Ndar Community near the University campus and attempted to kidnap four students.

On receiving the distress call, officers of Operation Safe Haven, Operation Rainbow, Nigeria Police, University Security and Community Watch Group mobilised and went after the kidnappers who had taken four students. Facing apparent capture, the criminals aborted their mission and ran away leading to the safe recovery of the students.

Governor Lalong who commended the security agencies for rising up to the occasion and being proactive directed the immediate establishment of a police post within the host community of the University in order to forestall any future reoccurrence.

The Governor also directed that security is tightened in all other schools across the State to guarantee the safety and security of students.

It would be recalled that the Governor had last year directed the University Management to improve security of the institution which led to the installation of CCTV surveillance and early warning systems all over the campus as well as the preparation for fencing of the entire campus.

The Governor has assured the students that all necessary measures will continue to be employed to ensure that they learn and dwell under a peaceful, secure and conducive environment.

Meanwhile, the Governor has again appealed to the citizens to assist security agencies with relevant intelligence that will lead to not only the arrest of the fleeing kidnappers, but to the apprehension of all criminal elements that are bent on disrupting the peace of the State.

He also commends the Local Government Chairman Yusuf Machen for sustaining synergy with the security agencies and the University community which is key to achieving peace and security in the area. He wants this tempo sustained as traditonal and community leaders as well as the newly deployed community police constables to be carried along to frustrate the plans criminals.

Governor Bako Lalong of Plateau State has expressed sadness over an attack on a mining site in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area which left 8 people dead.
