By, Giwa Alex, Jos

The ongoing Governorship Election Tribunal between the People Democratic Party (PDP)candidate Senator Jeremiah Usani and Simon Bako Lalong of All Progressive Congress(APC) sitting in Jos the plateau state Capital has received not fewer than Seventy One (71) Witnesses and Three Hundred Documents tender before the tribunal.

This is as the petitioner the People Democratic Party (PDP) candidate lead counsel chief Mike Ozekhomen (SAN) said his case is as strong as the Rock of Gibraltar, the Olumo Rock in Abeokuta and the Aso Rock in Abuja.

The legal luminary also make it clear that is not the numbers of the Witnesses you produce in a case that determine your victory but the quality of witnesses.

Chief Ozekhomen(SAN) make this clear in an interview with journalist at the court premises Sitting at West of Mines in jos immediately after the tribunal sitting on Friday 12th July, 2019.

Ozekhomen said they have been able to establish that there where conceallation of results by the electoral umpire (lNEC) unilaterally.

“The last witness (PW71)from the logistics department of INEC in plateau state make it clear that lNEC has no power to conceal election results behind the back of political parties and their agents”.

He also throw lights on the issue of whether the APC candidate of the last Governorship election was qualified to contest as at the time he contested.

“On the issue of qualification and non qualification ,we have been able to show that it is both pre- election and post election matter, that when you are not qualified to contest election ,and you contest election, the necessary cololary is that you can also be disqualify”.

Which he maintain that is a Constitutional issue as the argument of the 2nd respondents did not hold water.

He further add that what the lawyer of the 2nd respondents is trying to establish is that governor Lalong did say he made a change of name, the question is in your form you filled which you sworn an affidavit before you contest an election, what did you say?, did you ever agree of changing any name?that is the issue they have gotten he maintain.

The legal icon who is confident that his client may just been heading for victory, said there is nothing the team of cross examination that has shaking our witnesses as not the number of witnesses presented that you use in winning case but the quality of the Witnesses you call.

” When I ask the INEC official who determine whether election is free fair and credible, he said electoral tribunal ,that is why we are here at the tribunal. “

He commend his legal team for their credible work they have done so far since the tribunal started.

“My team have done very well ,we have been able to present about Seventy One(71)witnesses and Three Hundred (300)Documents before the honorable tribunal.”

On his greatest challenge so far since the commencement of the tribunal, he said,

“Our greatest challenges within this period is that many of the witnesses we call where terrorized threatened that they we be kill if they come here and testify, some of them actually come here, Lodge at the hotel by the petitioner but day for them to testify, they chicken out I told this honorable tribunal yesterday”.

He stressed that when phone call was put across to the witnesses, they said they are have family that they have been receiving anonymous call that if they dare testify they should better remain and never return to their various places of abode or consider themselves dead.

The petitioners where quick to cite ugly experience that happened in 2015 general election where the witnesses that testify paid dearly for it by having their houses burned.

The tribunal have been adjourn to 25th July, 2019 for the APC to open it defence.

He however cited an example of the  judgement against Adeleke which supreme Court has just upheld the judgement of the lower court by dismissing his petition, which he said ” it mean sometimes member who didn’t participate in the proceedings can come to participate in the judgement.”

“So in today sitting,a member out of the three members of the election tribunal was absent, leaving the Chairman or Chairperson of the tribunal a member”.

” where the three of them have been going on with the tribunal proceedings all along, suddenly one is absent, you can’t say the other two have form a quorum, so that means no matter how well the proceedings is conducted, that deficiency will take the entire judgement “.

The legal icon stressed that he decides to bring the vacuum created by the absent of one member of the tribunal for the tribunal to take judicial notice.

” Thank God the Chairperson of the tribunal justice Salamat (Mrs)agree with our submission and the respondents did also object ,so the tribunal sitting have been Adjourned till Monday 8th July, 2019 for the continuation of the proceedings “.

This is because the  Exco of the party in the state has concluded plans to shop for the replacement of the Deputy chairman Amos Gombi from his Zone  Kanke as the position is already Zoned to that part of Local government for equitable representative in the party.

“According to him, as a legal adviser of the party in Plateau state I belief that the exco view the excesses of the chairman who sigle  handedly disbursed the campaign money without involving the party’s exco” .

Jangtur emphasized that after reviewing the suspension of Hon. Sango, the constitution also make it clear that suspension can also be extended if necessary, it’s on this premise that we extend the suspension of Sango to another one month which we have comply with but that of his Deputy Chairman ,Hon Amos Gombi,we are looking for replacement from Kanke Local Government Council to present to us a credible candidate .

He lamented that they State Executive Council SEC, have finally nail Amos Gombi and he is just a floor member of the party ,the party exco are the engine room of the party ,we are awaiting  disciplinary action against Sango soon .

He frowned at the involvement  of traditional rulers ae dabbling into politics so under Sango PDP went into election without mobilizing the party structure owning to non availability of funds .

“Based on this premise, rising from her National Executive Council meeting in ile ife on 23rd May, 2019, in view of the recurrent decimal of flagrant brutal killings by the gun wielding terrorist Fulani Herdsmen/Boko Haram, aggressive invasion and violent attacks and alleged kidnapping of innocent Yorubas and Nigerians domiciled in Yoruba Land, gross violation of fundamental rights to human dignity leading to serial and merciless killings of innocent youths, rising wave of insecurity across the nation in Lagos around Ojokoro, ibadan to Ife road, Ibadan to Ijebu Ode/Benin Ore road, Ekiti to Akure and other highways kidnappings and robberies, incessant records of brutal ritual killings to mention a few, precipitating our unanimous resolution via final 7 days quite notice to all fulani herdsmen/boko haram to stay off all our territories, towns, villages and highways in all southwest states predicated  on the launched mass movement tagged: “Operation Sweep Clean (Folumo)” forthwith.

“Failure to comply with this final warning shall leave us with no other option than to forcefully clean up and rootout all fulani herdsmen/boko haram terrorists in all hiding creeks and forests in the south west geo political zone of Nigeria after 7 days final quit notice to lapse on the night of Thursday 30th May, 2019 accordingly.

“Henceforth, we are laconically positing that all residents persons domiciled in the Southwest shall be part of this mass movement launch of 20 million man match against the herdsmen terrorists in all Southwestern states, wherein a date will be announced upon violation of these warning notice, wherein all our members across all the local governments and communities  within southwestern states shall by jointly and simulteniosly mobilized to frontally comb and move into all forests, creeks and flash points, wherein all cattle breedings and animal husbandry marauding shall be stopped forthwith.

“Furthermore, after 21 days of persistence of this heinous threats against our people, we shall not hesitate to move against all investments and businesses; ranging from real estate, transportation haulage, oil and gas owned by any hausa/fulani extractions within southwest, if this evil persist irreversibly without verifiable interventions from their leaders and heads, we shall summarily shut down all palaces of hausa/ fulani communities within southwest.

“Nigeria, seems to be faced with multifaceted challenges daily, consequently we have gotten lots of colossal loss of lives and properties from the killer herdsmen terrorist groups, unfortunately they are yet to be classified as a prohibited  Terrorists organization by the federal government of Nigeria.

“Paharps, it is highly regrettable to note the Federal Government ill motivated act of comparing the Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria  to Afenifere and other socio-cultural groups; what a profused insultive, irresponsible and reckless statement from a government under democratic rule, to make matters worsened  President Muhamnadu Buhari led federal government assured and promised N100Billion to support the herdsmen, when they have not shown any sign of remorse or repentant demeanor.

“We have it on record, that the FG has proven to protect this fulani hersdemen with an additional approval of radio station licencing to fulani radio station network across the nation.

“Consequently, this is a direct nexus for provoked aggression,  anarchy and authoritarianism.

“We are suspicious of some elements who are using the veil of government to launch massive genocidal war against innocent Nigerians, particularly Yoruba people, i.e recently our doctors and professionals are gruesomely killed and brutally maimed.

“Based on live report, we learnt the Boko Haram and Fulani Herdsmen are feasting around us daily, in over 2,000 creeks forests spread across southwestrrn states, particularly in the most vulnurable states: Ogun, Ekiti, Oyo, Osun and Ondo States respectively.

“For power corrupt and absolute powers corrupt absolutely.

“We believe, this is the best time to review our unworkable system of government towards the realization of the restructuring agenda, with a prepared vision and hope for a new people’s constitution that guarantees good governance,  devolves power and economic resources rights to the Regions/States and Local government units, unfortunately this has not only contributed immensely to our precarious and nebulous status as the poverty capital  of the world, but tainted accolades as the worst place to live in on earth.

“What else gives citizens the confidence to thrive, if this stumbling pyramid of daily struggles and resultant double jeopardy remains unabated.

“Based on this premise, we believe charity begins at home, precipitating our clarion call for ‘A Southwest Economic Revitalization and Security Summit’ slated for Thursday June 27th, 2019 at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, Oyo State by 11a.m.

“We passionately appeal to all our political leaders,   stakeholders, elders, youth organizations, all Yoruba socio-cultural self determination groups and Royal fathers to urgently shun all divisive tendencies and embrace one another, for it is high time we crave with the greatest respect and seek His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi 111, The Alaafin of Oyo and other Royal Fathers of great reputes.

“Also, we equally call for a closer ranks between  Aare Dr Gani Adams, The Aare Onakankafo of Yoruba Land alongside the Agbekoya, Afenifere, ARG, all OPC, OLM, YCWY, YYC, Yoruba Koya, Yoruba Assembly, YSG, VOR, all youth and student leaders to mention a few, while we equally call on all our esteemed captains of industries, philanthropists, professionals, scholars, political gladiators and leaders of thoughts to collectively reason together on the way forward and proffer immediate panaceas to this stalemate.

“For we can no longer guarantee our further safety and economic survival as a nation, due to the aforementioned tribulations and double jeopardy thickly fastly like an evolving time bomb, earnestly waiting for ignition.

“We believe that this similar gestures be transmitted to other regions too, in order to simulteniosly and effectively ventilate our age long grudges dispassionately as commons and compatriots.

“This will then culminate to the eventual convocation of ‘A National Peace and Security Summit’ to be hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja by Thursday 25th July, 2019.

“However, firstly we demand for a special Yoruba youth dialogue with President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR being a father and president of the nation, this shall serve as a means of intimating him on all the aforementioned, in order to cross fertilize ideas on the current state of the nation affairs and other issues of mutual interests, as the nation’s present and future heirs, as well as YCYW being the umbrella body for the Yoruba youths.

“We hope this clarion call would constructively summoned our dying consciousness of building and salvaging  our nation from imminent total collapse,  for canons of war or attrition cannot solve our dreaded ailments, but exploring dialogue as the alternative first aid of getting out of this evil hoods.

“We believe that no human life is worth to be shed on the alter of mediocrity and quests for power.

“For we must ensure to protect all inhabitants within our territories and by extension all Nigerians nationally.

“Long live Yoruba Land.
Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria!”

By, Giwa Alex,JOS

Gbong Gwom jos ,Da Jacob Gyang  Buba has send a word of warning to the governor of plateau state Simon Bako Lalong to stop intruding into the affair of the traditional institutions in the state to avoid plunging plateau into another phase of crisis.

The Royal father said for some time now, he has been devoting his time calming down the fray nerves of  vibrant youths of the Berom Nation to avoid the state going on flame.

The Berom Royal Father Da Jacob Gyang Buba handed down the warning at the celebration of this year 2019 annual Berom Cultural festival “Nzem Berom”held at the Rwang Pam Township stadium in JOS the plateau state capital.

Gbong Gwom JOS who is the Chairman Plateau State traditional council said I have  never heard  both in my experience and history where the government redefine traditional boundaries that have hitherto coexist Peacefully and without misunderstanding between two ethics groups.

The creation of the two traditional councils – Jos North and Riyom – has effectively whittled down the powers of the paramount ruler who superintends over traditional rulers in the four local governments that make up  Jos Joint traditional Council.

With the split however, the Gbong Gwom jos is left with only two local governments – Jos South and Barkin-Ladi.

The monarch Da Jacob Gyang Buba call on Governor Simon Bako Lalong to direct his energy to address the state land use Act that had been begging for government attention .

“The country had a Land Use Act with the customary rights of land ownership embedded in it.”

“All over Nigeria, land belongs to communities, families and individuals. We want to appeal that government must not take actions that will bring security challenges to Plateau.

“Yesterday night, I had to appeal to the Berom nation and its vibrant youths to please calm down.
“I told them that as sensitive as the issue is perceived, it has not gone beyond the Berom traditional institution, the elders and the Berom organisations.

“We will sit with government and educate government about what it is; we hope we will have the listening ear of the governor to make amends where they have made errors.

“There is no human being that is perfect, we all make mistakes.
“We appeal to the Berom nation to please calm down. We will follow due process and we are absolutely sure that God will not forsake us,” the monarch maintained.

He further add that the had write a well worded letter to governor Lalong led government, to as matter of urgency to revisit all hitherto Commission of enquiry results with a view of implementation.

“I had cause to write to the state government reminding it of reports of three judicial commissions of inquiry between 1994 to 2009.”

“All the judicial commissions of inquiry agreed with the position that Jos belongs to the Afizere, Anaguta and the Berom.
“I wrote a letter last year reminding the governor of this and requesting him to allow traditional rulers of these tribes to sit with the state boundary commission to determine everybody’s boundary.

“I am still appealing to government to look into this.
“We don’t want a situation where government policy will bring chaos between neighbors, brothers and sisters that have lived together in peace over the ages,” he said.

Earlier the Speaker Debunks the insinuation going on in some quarter that the crisis is as a result of cattle rustling.

Damishi Sango Sets To Take Over PDP Secretariat On Friday

By,Giwa Alex, Jos

The crisis rocking the leadership of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in plateau state may not end soon as the embattled chairman of the party in the state has vowed to take over the state Secretariat of the party on Friday 17th May,2019.

As he said a strong worded message has been send to Chris Hassan and his co travellers  who is currently Acting as the party chairman in the state to honourably religuish the chairman seat to the rightful owner or risk been force out.

Group under the auspices of Concerned Unity Forum(CUF)a political group gave the warning yesterday in Peaceful demonstration held at Abrahim Taiwo Road adjacent PDP State Secretariat in JOS the plateau state capital.

Spokesman of the group, Hon Dakas Nathaniel Dakas in an interview with our correspondent in JOS the plateau state capital,  on Tuesday, 14th May, 2019,
The group urged the aggrieved parties to lay down their differences and give peace a chance to reign.

He said as concerned members, the unity group is not interested in the lingering crisis brewing within the members of the party but it wants to ensure that no one is benefitting from what it called “ illegality with what is happening to the party in the state now”.

He said: “We condemn some group of party faithfuls who refused to follow the due process in addressing the crisis but warn those who are illegally occupying the secretariat to urgently leave the environment before Friday.”

Dakas reiterated that the Chairman, Hon Damishi Sango should be allowed to hold say at the secretariat until the determination of investigation of allegations against his exco by the national working community of PDP

The Group displaying placards with inscriptions in favour of embattled Chairman Sango, during a protest at the party secretariat in Jos, on Tuesday

The leadership tussle threatening the soul of the Plateau State Chapter of the local PDP is apparently creating tense moments within the party and to a large extend the entire state, if not properly handled, as it is still has strong follower ship in the state. The incumbent governor Simon Lalong won the last poll with reasonable wide   margin as both parties polled over half a million votes each.

The impending threat is not far from the sacking of the Damishi Sango leadership and his Deputy, Amos Gombi over allegations of corruption and misappropriation of party funds, and the subsequently appointment of the former Vice Chairman, (North) Hon. Chris Hassan to man the affairs of the party. The new dimension is that, the Sango support group have viewed the sanction against his leadership as an affront to a constituted authority and as such sees it as a platform and a worthy cause to meet resistance.

The Concern Unity Group, which on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest at the party Secretariat in Jos, is seen as sponsored by loyalists of Sango to send warning signal to the Chris Hassan led group to vacate the Party Secretariat on, or before Friday for the interest of peace.

The protesters were carrying placards with inscriptions; Sango is still our authentic PDP Chairman among others

Addressing Journalists shortly after the protest, leader of the group, Dakas Nathaniel Dakas alongside the Youth leaders, Mike Nyako and Chollom Haruna said they that have completed arrangements to lead D.T Sango to reclaim his office on Friday.

According to them, the action is informed by the fact that since after the ‘purported sacking’ of Sango and Co, the National Secretariat of the party had sent a delegation and advised the Chris Hassan Exco to maintain status quo pending the outcome of the investigation, but have “the ‘usurpers’ had failed to comply.”

They added that their concern is for due process to be followed and that Sango should be investigated, if need be, before any further action is taken.

“Two wrongs can’t make a right, why should the Chris Hassan group refused to adhere to the advise of the National Secretariat?”, they asked rhetorically.

“We have called you here to help us tell them; those illegally occupying the PDP Secretariat led by Chris Hassan who claimed to have impeached the authentic Chairman, D.T Sango, to vacate the office on or before Friday because we are going to escort Sango to reclaim his office on Friday.

“Our elder statesman, distinguished Senator J.T Useni had even cautioned them but they have refused, and therefore we want peace and will do everything possible to ensure that the right thing is done”

Although, as at the time if filing this report, nobody from Chris Hassan camp was on ground to comment.
