Re : Nigeria Army’s Rebuttal On Reportage Of Illegal  Detention Of POS Operator Nansak Selbar, How True ?

By, giwa alex, Jos

On January 4th 2024, a rejoinder to my report on a POS operator and secondary school teacher, Nansak Selbar, who was apprehended over allegations of terrorism, fraud and impersonation of Major General Nansak Shagaya, written by the Acting Director, Public Relations Officer of the 3 Armoured Division, Maxwell Khoebe Cantonment, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, discrediting the news and qualifying it as falsehood aimed at misleading the general public and pitching it against the army.

But how true was the Army’s rebuttal?

The Army has admitted the substances in the news, but still qualified it as falsehood and the reporter as “unscrupulous” (Sic) element bent on eluding peace.

In its letter addressed to Nanlir N Rindap dated 6th December, 2024, written by Lieutenant Colonel UJ Atumeyi on behalf of the GOC, the Army accepted that it whisked Nansak Selbar from his working place, Government Secondary School, Nyak, on November 7th, 2024, denied his family access to him, claimed the suspect is undergoing investigation on allegations on National Security and the threat to drag the army to court by his family.

On these premise was the report the Army claimed as false.

In the rebuttal by the Acting Publicity Director, the Army admitted that Nansak is in its custody and the family was denied access to him, but failed to disprove Nansak’s family’s threat of dragging the army to court claiming N100m damages which it said was untrue.

The Army claimed that the detention was not illegal saying it has court order to keep him in custody until its finishes its investigation then it will hand him over to the relevant agency.

Relevant means appropriated to what is being done.

Therefore in the words of the army, it (the Army) is not the relevant agency to handle Nansak’s case. What does that imply? It implies that it is doing someone else’s job.

The Army accused Nansak of aiding bandits, impersonation, collecting ransom of kidnapping and other criminal acts inimical to security of the nation, but did not mention a single lead to its allegations.

That is, it did not: produce any evidence to prove its points such as; how much he collected, from who, where, and how for kidnapping; show the army uniform in his possession; point out how he impersonated an army general and so on.

Who did the army claim the suspect impersonate? Was it not Major General Nansak Shagaya? If that’s so, was his arrest then not connected to him?

On Nansak’s State of health, to falsify the report,  the army should have produced him live to the public to see for themselves.

Is it legal to keep a suspect for two months without evidence of criminality and without handing him to the relevant agency for investigation, and even denying his relations seeing him despite the counter ex-parte motion received for his release from a competent court of law by his lawyer? Is a suspect not entitled to a lawyer who will see him frequently?

As a reporter, I report past, ongoing and future events. In this case, I reported what actually transpired and there is no falsehood in it as I still stand by my report devoid of fallacy and working in line with the documents given to me.

For the Army to prove the news as false, it should produce the evidences of its allegations against Nansak on terrorism, impersonation, kidnapping and other criminal acts.

Through our Budget tagged, “Budget of New Beginnings,” we laid a robust foundation for rebuilding and repositioning our state for Peace and Prosperity. Despite the hurdles we encountered, including litigations, our collective mandate was restored and reaffirmed amidst jubilation.

For this, I remain deeply thankful for your steadfast support and faith in this administration. Together, we have embarked on a shared journey to deliver good governance and tangible dividends of democracy.

From the moment I assumed office, peace and security have been our topmost priorities. In 2024, we made bold investments in technology and logistics to strengthen the surveillance and protection of our rural communities. Our efforts have already begun yielding significant results, as unprovoked attacks, once rampant, are steadily declining.

However, while we have recorded progress, some communities continue to face security challenges. Let me assure you that we will not rest until enduring peace is achieved across Plateau State. As a government, we remain committed to partnering with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to end these avoidable tragedies. Let me express my deepest appreciation to the security personnel for their sacrifices and diligence.

It is sad that some individuals have taken child trafficking as business to exploit our children. Let me inform you that the government under my watch will take a decisive action against those who indulge in this criminal activity. I encourage parents to take absolute responsibility for raising their children and safeguarding them against this menace.

The removal of fuel subsidies in 2024 brought unfortunate hardships, but our administration swiftly responded with initiatives to cushion the impact on our people. Recognizing the strain on urban transportation, we introduced 15 modern MAN-Diesel buses equipped with advanced payment systems to serve our communities. Due to overwhelming demand, I am glad to inform you that additional 15 more have already been ordered to expand the fleet in 2025.

On agriculture, 2024 witnessed significant advancements: We have reached advanced discussions with the African Development Bank to onboard Plateau State as a participating State in the development of the Special Agro Processing Zone. Successful trials for wheat, barley, and grasses such as Napier and Brachiaria were conducted, setting the stage for mass production in 2025.

In addition, the Yakubu Gowon Airport is set to be upgraded to a cargo airport to facilitate the export of perishable crops and vegetables that are produced in our state.

Our administration also established the Plateau State Commodity Marketing Company (PLACOM) to address challenges in commodity trading, warehousing, and market information systems.

This initiative eliminates the exploitative role of middlemen and ensuring that farmers get the true value of their produce.

Our efforts to create a friendly economic atmosphere has attracted local and international investors. Notably, agreements have been signed for the revitalization of Hill Station Hotel and Plateau Hotel, with the first rooms expected to be ready by December 2025.

President Tinubu  Presents 2025 Budget Of Restoration, Securing Peace And Building Prosperity Before National Assembly.

Our Reporter

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has presented 2025 Budget tagged budget of Restoration, Securing Peace and Building Prosperity before the joint session of National Assembly.

The Budget which was presented before National Assembly Wednesday 18th December 2024 held the floor of National Assembly.

As Tinubu said the budget is an fulfillment of the All Progressive Congress (APC’s) led Government of  constitutional duties and with unyielding commitment to rebuilding Nigeria towards ensuring that we remain steadfast on the journey to a prosperous future, I hereby present the 2025 Budget to the Joint Session of the 10th National Assembly.

On this day, before this hallowed chamber, I present to you the 2025 Budget at a time when our country is at a crucial point in its development trajectory.

The 2025 Budget Proposal again reinforces our administration’s roadmap to secure peace, prosperity, and hope for a greater future for our beloved nation. This budget christened, “Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,” strikes at the very core of our Renewed Hope Agenda and demonstrates our commitment to stabilizing the economy, improving lives, and repositioning our country for greater performance.

The journey of economic renewal and institutional development, which we began 18 months ago as a nation, is very much underway. It is not a journey of our choosing but one we had to embark on for Nigeria to have a real chance at greatness. I thank every Nigerian for embarking on this journey of REFORMS and TRANSFORMATION with us.

The road of reforms is now clearly upon us, and as the President of this blessed nation, I know this less-travelled road has not been easy. That there have been difficulties and sacrifices. They will not be in vain. And we must keep faith with the process to arrive at our collectively desired destination.

We must build on the progress we have made in the past eighteen months in restructuring our economy and ensuring it is strong enough to withstand the headwinds of any future shocks of the global downturn.

The 2025 budget that I present today is one of restoration. It seeks to consolidate the key policies we have instituted to restructure our economy, boost human capital development, increase the volume of trade and investments, bolster oil and gas production, get our manufacturing sector humming again and ultimately increase the competitiveness of our economy.

We do not intend to depart from this critical path to strengthen the Nigerian economy. Just as I believe in the resilience of our economy to withstand the current challenges, I also strongly believe in the resilience of the Nigerian people. Again, I summon the unstoppable Nigerian spirit to lead us on as we work to rebuild the fabric of our economy and existence.

The improvements we witnessed in the 2024 budget have led us into the 2025 budget. The goals of advancing national security, creating economic opportunities, investing in our youthful population, infrastructure development, and national re-orientation form the core of the 2025 budget. But more than that, this will lay a solid foundation for Nigeria’s future growth trajectory.

CURRENT ECONOMIC REALITIES AND PROGRESS

Distinguished Senate President, Right Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives, leaders and members of both Chambers of the National Assembly, I report today that our economy is responding positively to stimulus. Our objective is to further stimulate the economy through the implementation of targeted fiscal stimulus packages through public expenditures and specific non-inflationary spending.

The reforms we have instituted are beginning to yield results. Nigerians will soon experience a better and more functional economy.

Global economic growth for the outgoing year 2024 was projected at 3.2 percent, and against predictions, our country made significant progress.

Our economy grew by 3.46 percent in the third quarter of 2024, up from 2.54 percent in the third quarter of 2023.

Our Foreign Reserves now stand at nearly 42 billion US dollars, providing a robust buffer against external shocks.

Our rising exports are reflected in the current trade surplus, which now stands at 5.8 trillion naira, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

These clear results of gradual recovery, among others, reflect the resilience of our economy and the impact of deliberate policy choices we made from the outset.

2024 BUDGET PERFORMANCE

I am happy to inform this National Assembly that our administration attained remarkable milestones in implementing the 2024 Budget. In 2024, we achieved:

14.55 trillion naira in revenue, meeting 75 percent of our target as of the third quarter.

21.60 trillion naira in expenditure, representing 85 percent of our target, also in the third quarter.

While challenges persist, we improved revenue collection and fulfilled key obligations. The transformational effects of this on our economy are gradually being felt.

PHILOSOPHY OF THE 2025 BUDGET

The 2025 Budget seeks to:

 Restore macroeconomic stability.

  Enhance the business environment.

Foster inclusive growth, employment, and poverty reduction.

Promote equitable income distribution and human capital development.

Our budgetary allocations reflect the administration’s strategic priorities, especially in the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda and its developmental objectives.

2025 BUDGET OVERVIEW

The numbers for our 2025 budget proposal tell a bold and exciting story of the direction we are taking to retool and revamp the socio-economic fabric of our society.

In 2025, we are targeting 34.82 trillion naira in revenue to fund the budget.

Government expenditure in the same year is projected to be 47.90 trillion naira, including 15.81 trillion naira for debt servicing.

A total of 13.08 trillion naira, or 3.89 percent of GDP, will make up the budget deficit.

This is an ambitious but necessary budget to secure our future.

The Budget projects inflation will decline from the current rate of 34.6 percent to 15 percent next year, while the exchange rate will improve from approximately 1,700 naira per US dollar to 1,500 naira, and a base crude oil production assumption of 2.06 million barrels per day (mbpd).

These projections are based on the following observations:

Reduced importation of petroleum products alongside increased export of finished petroleum products.

Bumper harvests, driven by enhanced security, reducing reliance on food imports.

Increased foreign exchange inflows through Foreign Portfolio Investments.

Higher crude oil output and exports, coupled with a substantial reduction in upstream oil and gas production costs.

KEY PRIORITIES: REBUILDING NIGERIA

Our budgetary allocations underscore this administration’s strategic priorities, particularly in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda and achieving its developmental objectives.

Highlights of the 2025 Budget Allocations:

Defence and Security: N4.91 trillion

 Infrastructure: N4.06 trillion

 Health: N2.48 trillion

 Education: N3.52 trillion

As we embark on implementing the 2025 Budget, our steps are deliberate, our decisions resolute, and our priorities are clear. This budget reflects a renewed commitment to strengthening the foundation of a robust economy, while addressing critical sectors essential for the growth and development we envision.

Securing Our Nation:

Security is the foundation of all progress. We have significantly increased funding for the military, paramilitary, and police forces to secure the nation, protect our borders, and consolidate government control over every inch of our national territory.

The government will continue to provide our security forces with the modern tools and technology they need to keep us safe. Boosting the morale of our men and women in the armed forces will remain our government’s top priority.

The officers, men, and women of our Armed Forces and the Nigerian Police Force are the shields and protectors of our nation. Our administration will continue to empower them to defeat insurgency, banditry, and all threats to our sovereignty. Our people should never live in fear—whether on their farmlands, highways or cities.

By restoring peace, we restore productivity, revive businesses, and rebuild our communities.

Infrastructure Development:

When we launched the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, it was with the conviction that infrastructure remains the backbone of every thriving economy.

Under this programme, we are accelerating investments in energy, transport, and public works. By leveraging private capital, we hope to complete key projects that drive growth and create jobs.

We have already embarked on key legacy projects:

Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Highway, which will have a huge impact on the lives of our people and accelerate economic output.

Human Capital Development:

28. Our people are our greatest resource. That is why we are making record investments in education, healthcare, and social services:

Our administration has so far disbursed 34 billion naira to over 300,000 students via the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). In the 2025 Budget, we have made provision for 826.90 billion naira for infrastructure development in the educational sector.

This provision also includes those for the Universal Basic Education (UBEC) and the nine new higher educational institutions.

We are convinced that Universal Health Coverage initiatives will strengthen primary healthcare systems across Nigeria.

In this way, we have allocated 402 billion naira for infrastructure investments in the health sector in the 2025 Budget and another 282.65 billion naira for the Basic Health Care Fund.

Our hospitals will be revitalised with medication and better resources, ensuring quality care for all Nigerians.

This is consistent with the Federal Government’s planned procurement of essential drugs for distribution to public healthcare facilities nationwide, improving healthcare access and reducing medical import dependency.

Revitalizing Agriculture:

Increasing agricultural production is central to our food security agenda, but insecurity has crippled this vital sector. We are supporting our farmers with funding and inputs to reignite productivity.

Food security is non-negotiable. In this regard, we are taking bold steps to ensure that every Nigerian can feed conveniently, and none of our citizens will have to go to bed hungry.

Distinguished Senate President, Right Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives, leaders and members of both Chambers of the National Assembly and fellow Nigerians, our 2025 budget proposal is not just another statement on projected government revenue and expenditures. It is one that calls for action.

Our nation faces existential threats from corruption and insecurity and suffers from many past poor choices.

These challenges are surmountable when we work collaboratively to overcome them. We must rewrite the narrative of this nation together, with every leader, institution, and citizen playing their part.

The time for lamentation is over. This is a time to act. A time to support and promote greater investment in the private sector. A time for our civil servants to faithfully execute our policies and Programmes.

He made this call through his Media Consultant, Mr. Shabul Mazadu, who gave audience to journalists in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

Mazadu stated that the disposition of his principal, Prof. Dakum, on the reported defection of Dalyop Chollom and Alfred Iliya, Members representing Barkin Ladi/ Riyom and Jos South/ Jos East Federal Constituencies respectively is that of equanimity; stating that the goodwill of the party has not diminished in any way in the state. He further pointed that while the legislators concerned have made their choices,

“Consolidation for Greater Plateau” which is the Movement built around the gubernatorial ambition of Dakum, has continued to attract wider support with increasing calls from huge followers of the APC and PDP for the former Commissioner of Health and Information to contest the 2027 Gubernatorial Elections in the state.

The Best Is Good For PLASU

By Katdapba Yunana Gobum

It is not out of place to revisit the history of the 17 year old Plateau  State University, Bokkos; for many obvious reasons; starting from September 2005.

Yet, if it must be done, most of those who who are the harshest critics of the various Vice Chancellors, may have a rethink, particularly if they are told of the conditions under which they operated.

Like they say, a lot of water has passed under the bridge. If we wish for the understanding of the university’s trajectory, it should be in total agreement of how an institution should stay on course through due processes of administration.

Truly speaking, it would be out of place to reduce whatever has been contributed by all past administrators. They remain a signpost of development on the university campus.

To reduce the historical contributions of Profs John Wokton Wade (2005-2010), Nenfort Gomwalk (2010-2013),  Doknan Descent Danjuma Sheni (2013-2918), Yohanna Daniel Izam (2018-2023), Benard Malau Matur (2023-2024) in the development of the university would amount to journalistic laziness.

Yours sincerely would never want to be counted for such an exercise. In their various persuasions, all of them, egg heads, have gone through the mills administratively and in academics, they can be relied upon on the assignment.

But situating their historical antecedence and contributions, such are enough to appreciate what they have added over the years, for the university to get to the present station.

Those who have followed developments in the university may be quick to point to certain alleged lapses of government over the years, which may have forced the Ivory Tower to remain largely inconsistent of the course the university should have followed.

Such institutions in Nigeria may not be found without the incumbency factor of the government in power. All the Vice Chancellors appointed in the past and future have reason to want to succeed while they lasted, despite the ever noticed presence of its proprietor.

Thus, within the limits of what may have been available, and for some of the alleged frustrations they may have endured; each one of them added value in several ways than one.

The university is where it is placed today consequent upon the efforts deployed in building it by the administrators over the years.

In the current circumstance where Prof Shedrack Gaya Best holds court, a number of things have happened; and they are reflective of the new drive to change the narrative that has come to be of PLASU lately.

There is no denying this fact: Bokkos local government has remained a sore point for insecurity for years. Scholarship does not flourish in this kind of environment. It will never!

The founders did not envisaged that a time would come when students and lecturers would be in their lecture halls guarded or accompanied by truck loads of security personnel. And sadly losing staff and students in the process.

But the situation calls for sober reflection of what has hit the local community where the university is situated; and by extension a concern for the state and its people.

Since coming on the saddle on February 12, 2024, Professor Shedrack Gaya Best started on a sprint. There are initiatives executed that are speaking well of him, and for which the university is being applauded.

Things can not be different in running Plateau State University. Whatever vision the Vice Chancellor has can never be any different from that of the Governor, being its Visitor. They can’t work at cross purposes.

The responsibility, given to Prof Shedrack Gaya Best; whether in acting capacity or substantively; he is expected to change the face of the university by bringing it to acceptable standard, to play the role it was set up for.

For those who know, Plateau State University has gone through circles of turbulence and uncertainty. It takes a huge amount of resolve to bring the needed changes to the institution that has been described as a ‘village university’.

Despite numerous challenges, the university has trudged and made progress in different areas. That it has grown in different dimensions since he arrived is the fact that he ‘didn’t waste time criticising’ what was done in the past; rather, he settled down to ‘improve on it’.

The institution has grown in different facets that any university should. In the words of Prof Shedrack Gaya Best: I have been keen in making sure that the university does not look like the neighbouring village. We cannot be in a village and then resemble the village’.

To get an environment that had largely remained topsy-turvy, the system needed to be normalised. ‘We began to clean the university’, after an appointment he calls ‘unusual’, and to be fair, it needed enough guts to get it done.

Prof Gaya arrived Bokkos with enough dose of it; ready to rebuild the confidence, working with the government, staff (and its unions) and security to remedy what was becoming an increasingly uninhabitable environment.

First, apart from settling accounts with university unions, he confronted what was becoming a laissez-faire attitude, where it was difficult for students to pay fees, insisting they were lords who should be respected, and exempted from such payments.

To ensure that the battle is won on different fronts, a number of things; though energy sapping have so far been executed. Thus, to ward off herders from the precinct of the university, the fencing of its perimeter walls through TETFund with observetory towers and CCTV are underway.

Even though it is a battle, he believes he is ‘winning, I don’t believe that a university should be a grazing ground for any body, hence we have to stop the herders from extending their destructive attitude into the university’.

It is interesting that the university began with ‘three faculties; today, there are nine with a School of Postgraduate Studies, and 10 Directorates. In the next session, we’ll introduce two new faculties: Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences’.

With students population hitting the ten thousand mark, about 85-90 percent live off campus on account of insufficient hostels. That is being worked upon to be reduced through partnership with Bua and Dangote Cement to build hostels to enable a sizeable number of students live on campus.

PLASU, from all intent and purposes is stable; the hitherto hostile students-school relationship has given way to dialogue and understanding. The environment is wearing a new look, even as its physical composition has taken an identity worthy to be called a university.

The hope in the future in making road network, hostels, buses, water, ICT, electricity, solar available and strategic and many more are some of the acting Vice Chancellor’s major preoccupation.

But above all, the university must have to grow to compete with its peers, knowing that ‘the scope of education is that you can tell it’s boundaries’. While getting staff to build capacity, the institution must stop ‘inbreeding’ of Plateau people alone, but ensure that deversity is encouraged.

The university should attract people all over the world; knowing that the strength of a university is in the capacity of its staff.

In his current position, Prof Shedrack Gaya Best knows that an opportunity has been given, no matter its nomenclature, it will be apt to make a statement in the assignment; by making it better and efficient.

Only Jos Can Get You Enchanted

By Katdapba Yunana Gobum.

It appears Jos art has a unique way of telling the stories of Plateau State. It is a fact,no one can prove to the contrary.

From every day story often told or even heard, they serve the people’s yearnings; to know and more, a reminder of the richness therein to preserve.

Lately, the tourism industry in Plateau State has been largely rediscovered (or so I think) and directed in the most special way; thanks to the foresight of the new Sheriff, Mr. Chuwang Pwajok, the General Manager of Plateau Tourism Corporation.

In an interview in the Tribune recently, he stated that the state’s tourism endowments have repeatedly been hyped, yet the political will power to harness the resource remains largely in the realm of thought.

The new thinking in town is now working for the good of the industry. It is possible after all, that the giant can be woken up from slumber; and play the role expected of it.

The state Tourism Corporation, headed by Mr. Chuwang Pwajok is hot on the heels of a pleasant development that gladens stakeholders’ hearts; moreso, when  initiatives so far by the corporation are taken into account.

The recent activities put up by the corporation have got major players in the industry greening from both sides of the mouth. The flood gates of initiatives are, if anything, revealing of how tourism should be undertaken for profit.

No wonder, Enchanting Plateau: An Exhibition, a project of the Plateau Tourism Corporation which started on November 27, 2024 and ended on December 1, 2024 is meant to write the story of the state through arts.

How better can that be. The story of Plateau State can be better told by the people themselves. From the efforts of the exhibition Curator and of Plateau Tourism Corporation, good education is received without questions.

The creativity of participants in the exhibition, according to the state Governor, Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and the endowments by nature are able to sell the state to the world.

He noted in copious terms how top government officials and in the private sector are praying to retire to Plateau State. What perhaps have often affected the state are the negative stories that have been sold to the world: That Plateau is not safe; it is not habitable. We are our worst enemies, because we don’t appreciate the beauty God has given us.

In the last one year, the governor stated: We have proved the lie on that story. The state has hosted ambassadors. We have hosted many top rated national conferences and many more in the months to come.

‘We can provide the platform for that if we eschew bitterness and the pull him down syndrome of what is good about the state, according to Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

He reiterated thus: Once we tell people what is good about us, we can draw them to the state. Plateau is ours to promote. Indeed, Plateau is yours to sell to the world.

‘It is the influx of people into the state that builds the economy. Once people stay away from here, we will continue to lavish in poverty. We have a lot of things that will bring people into Plateau’.

Plateau Tourism Corporation General Manager, Mr. Chuwang Pwajok believes the exhibition cannot only be a celebration of arts and talents, but of the beautiful landscapes of the state and its rich cultural heritage.

As General Manager of Plateau State Tourism Corporation, Mr. Chuwang Pwajok is ‘continually impressed by the tremendous creativity that springs from the state. Plateau State has always been known as the home of creativity and a village of talents, and this exhibition with countless number of creative tales told in different forms are a testament to that fact’.

We dare say, ‘art tourism plays a significant role in exporting culture, preserving heritage, uniting voices, and showcasing the beauty of a place through tourism. In fact, the World Bank projects that tourism contributes to 8.8% of job creation and 9.1% of the world’s GDP.’

The current administration in Plateau State, according to Mr. Pwajok hopes to take advantage, as ‘this exhibition aligns with the vision of making Plateau State a leading destination for artistic and cultural tourism not only in Nigeria but in the continent at large’.

Importantly, this ‘exhibition reflects the transformative power of collaboration between artists, art lovers, stakeholders, and different audiences in their bid to uplift the state. It is an avenue of not only giving these artists platforms for the expression of their arts, but one that  exposes the potentials in Plateau State that needed to be harnessed’ to serve as a hub of tourism and creativity.

The artists whose works were exhibited will suffice for mention here, even as the attraction they brought to the different stands is an indication that it was well conceived and received.

The artists who were on the exhibition platform cut across state boundaries, with varying degrees of experience and excellence. But more compelling are the stories they tell through their mediums.

With their antecedence and proclivity, they massively resonate the mood of the Plateau people; who are indeed on the journey of recreating the tourism potentials of the state through such initiatives.

They are indebted to all the participants at the exhibition. The list is long and may not be exhaustive, however, they include: Ben Duamlong, Ezekiel Udubrae, Ephraim Dankyes, Nyam Abok, Mark Rwang, Joseph Yawus, Jacob Enemona Onoja and Musa Tukurah.

Others Danjuma Sumdi Misok, Remchi Viga, Kureng Dapel, Gabriel Adetona,Ezea Stanley Chibuzo and Kenneth Juliet Ugochukwu. There are many on the list.

By,giwa alex,Jos

A Senior District Court sitting in Plateau State at Main Market No4 ,has adjourned to the 5th February,2025 to arraign Aliyu Ibrahim and 5 ors on allegation of trespass by Huraifa Ibrahim .

The Judge was said to be absent due to illness and counsels picked a new date for the court to commence hearing on the suit ,JMMC/DCR/201/2024 .

Speaking to the Defendants counsel, Lawrence Anya Esq ,he told Journalists that a case was filed by one Huraifa Ibrahim challenging his clients including the  staff of his company .

He told the is all about issue of landed property situated at Old Legislative quarter in Jos North LGA between  Huraifa Ibrahim  and Aliyu Ibrahim whom he sold his plot of land .

However they negotiated for  price to the sum of N55 million and thereafter , Aliyu Ibrahim  paid N53 million through the account of Huraifa Ibrahim .

Lawrence Anya further explained that what led to the  litigation is  when his client demanded for the allocation paper before paying the remaining balance of 3 million  they agreed upon.

The land paper which Huraifa Ibrahim presented to Aliyu Ibrahim as the original buyer for him to authenticate  the originality of the land , a Lawyer whom I will not mention his name, for now said he did a search that the allocation papers are authentic .

According to him,on behalf of his clients he wrote letter to Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) to commence development on the land and when that is  still going  our client still insisted that what he paid for is

authentic  is not forthcoming and he (Huraifa Ibrahim)reported the matter to the police .

We gather that as the Police were still investigating ,Huraifa Ibrahim filed charges for  direct criminal case alleging a lot of offences were committed .

“That Aliyu Ibrahim intimidated him and alleged using thugs as Huraifa Ibrahim is now alleged charge  of criminal conspiracy and harassment .

“so today is the first day the matter is coming up for arraignment on the direct criminal complain against him.

Vincent Venman in response described the statement by Hon . Member Representing Langtang South State Constituency Hon.Nancwat Bendel as political looser and unreasonable to create acrimony blackmailing him that he collected funds from the campaign of APC in the state.

According to him,I spent over million naira to ensure that the party (APC) won the election with landslide victory but here is someone sponsored by mischief makers to destroyed me .

He explained further that he (Vincent Venman Bulus ) didn’t see Kobo and all funds released was through the Commissioner and the Stakeholders in Langtang South LGA not him .

In response to recent allegations made by Hon. Nancwat Bendel, Member Representing Langtang South State Constituency, Hon. Bulus Vincent Venman, Member Representing Langtang North and South Federal Constituency, wishes to set the record straight and address the unfounded claims circulating in the media.

Hon. Vincent Venman categorically denies the accusation of withholding campaign funds meant for the gubernatorial election of Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda during the 2023 general elections.

As a dedicated and loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Vincent has never been in control of or responsible for managing campaign funds.

Furthermore, as a Federal Representative and not a party executive, he has no direct access to these funds.

It is well-known among party faithful in Langtang North and South that Hon. Vincent has consistently been the primary financier of APC activities in the area, often utilizing personal resources to support the party’s growth and success.

Accusing him of diverting funds is not only false but also a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and tarnish his hard-earned reputation.

However,”The suspension of Hon. Bendel from the party is an internal matter, and Hon. Vincent was neither involved nor aware of the decision beforehand.

” The news of Hon. Bendel’s suspension came as a surprise to Hon. Vincent, who has since called on the party leadership to establish a reconciliation committee to address grievances and promote unity within the APC ,” he said.

Unlike his counterparts in other constituencies, Hon. Bendel has yet to initiate any significant projects or developmental initiatives for his constituents.

The people of Langtang North and South deserve leaders who prioritize their welfare and development over personal political ambitions.

Hon. Vincent remains committed to serving his constituents diligently and will continue to support efforts that strengthen the APC and improve the lives of the people.

Hon. Vincent calls on all APC members and supporters in Langtang North and South to remain calm and united.

He stresses the importance of fostering peace and cohesion within the party, as only through collective effort can they achieve meaningful progress and deliver on their promises to the people.

The APC leadership is urged to listen to all sides of any dispute, encourage dialogue, and avoid actions that could further divide the party. By working together, they can build a stronger, more resilient party ready to face future challenges and opportunities.

Hon. Bulus Vincent Venman remains focused on his mandate and will not be distracted by baseless accusations. Chief Amb.Yohana Margif Decries Influence Of Godfatherism In Plateau Politics.

By, giwa alex, Jos

A Frontline politician in Plateau State, Chief Yohana Yilpwan Margif has expressed deep concern of the influence of godfatherism in  politics which has retarded the growth and development of the state.

Margif a Governorship candidate under the platform of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 General elections in Plateau State, lamented that the trend is not good for the growth of Nigeria’s nascent democracy.

He explained that over time, the undue influence exerted by these so called godfathers has seen them prioritizing their own interests above that of the state and the people.

” A perfect example in point is the change of date of the famous PRTV Annual Tree Lighting Program organized to usher in the Christmas season has now been shifted to second of December just to accommodate the interest of the governor’s godfather whose Yuletide program is now December first” Margif observed.

The former LP Governorship candidate noted that the activities of the godfather in the state has eroded the democratic institutions in the state with the imposition of candidates during last months Local Government elections as Flagberaers of the ruling party were imposed on the party without going through the party primaries.

” The godfather was accused of imposing his nephew as the Flagberaer of the People’s Democratic Party PDP in Jos South Local Government during October Local Government polls. This did not go down well with some of the party’s stakeholders as some of them worked for other party candidates instead of the PDP”. Margif stated .

This development according to him has seen some aggrieved parties resorting to court actions like the case of Shendam Local Government were aggrieved stakeholders went to court to challenge the emergence of  Nicholas Kemi Nshe who they alleged was imposed on the party by the governor.

Margif opined that the reconstruction of some major roads within Jos Bukuru Metropolis especially the Building Materials Sabon Bariki road and the completion of the National Library Overhead Bridge linking Abbattior all in Jos South LGA has raised eyebrows with some residents accusing Governor Caleb Mutfwang of doing that to satisfy his godfather and former Governor, Senator Jonah Jang.

He urged the people of Plateau State to rise up and fight the menace of godfatherism in the state politics, by electing credible candidates who will work for the common good of all instead of those working for the whims and caprices of their godfathers whose interest is the state wealth.

While appealing for caution in the choice of candidates during elections, Margif stated that in the face of the current economic challenges, godfatherism can only exacerbate the problems, leading to further disaffection and disillusionment among the people

The Forum is strongly advising the NWC to call NEC latest by the first week of February 2025 to allow for elaborate consultations with critical stakeholders of the Party.  The period between November and February is to address the existential problems confronting the Party, with a deliberate timeline of activities within the period under review to address issues of leadership and litigations confronting the Party.

The Forum empathizes with Nigerians who are groaning under the oppressive economic hardship foisted on the nation by the policies and decisions of the APC-led Federal Government. The Forum calls on the President to urgently review both macroeconomic and fiscal policies that will address the welfare and well-being of Nigerians. The Forum wishes to pledge that all PDP Governors will continue to aggressively pursue policies and programs that will reduce the hardship and ensure progress and development.

The Forum notes with concern the rape of democracy in Edo Governorship elections. It is clear to everyone with conscience that INEC manipulated results in favour of the APC candidate when in fact majority of lawful votes were won by the PDP candidate, Mr. Asue Ighodalo. Meanwhile, we are still examining the documents in Ondo Elections where the APC manipulated results after openly buying votes. The Forum calls on the judiciary to save Nigerian democracy and the National Assembly to look into our electoral laws to make it difficult for institutional sabotage of the will of the people.

The Forum recognises the good work that the majority members of NASS is doing. NASS is therefore called upon to critically interrogate all bills to ensure fairness, equity, national balance and even development nationally.

The Forum commiserates with the Government and people of Plateau State on the recent Katako market fire incident which destroyed properties worth millions of Naira. The Forum also commiserates with the Government and people of Jigawa State on the recent tanker expulsion whereby scores of people lost their lives and several others were injured.

The Forum expresses its gratitude to the Government and People of Plateau State for not only hosting the meeting but extending to all the participants the hospitality for which Jos is reputed. In particular, the meeting commends the Government of the State for visible and laudable transformation in social services, tourism and transportation that have taken place and ensure all Nigerians to look forward, with GENUINE HOPE to the replication of this not only presently but after 2027 when the party would reclaim its rightful position in the Nigerian political scene.
